It is located on the north-east shore of Lake Arenal. The former village of Arenal near the La Fortuna area was inundated in 1978 with the formation of the artificial Lake Arenal. Nuevo Arenal was a government project to relocate the displaced people. Nuevo Arenal is located about a one-hour drive northwest from the original village along a beautiful paved lakeside road that goes from La Fortuna to Tilaran.

Caballo Negro was recommended to us and we are so glad we stopped! We were so impressed with the ambiance, the view, the food, the service...everything spectacular! We chose a spinach omelet which was loaded with spinach and came with the best curried potatoes I have ever eaten. AND fresh fruit! Couldn't resist the homemade apple strudel either! Monika is not only a fabulous cook she is an artist and actually made the beautiful tables in the restaurant. After you eat be sure to browse the shop with locally made items and artwork. This was one of our most memorable and enjoyable stops during our month in Costa Rica. I highly recommend this gem!Thanks so much for the review, and glad we made your visit to Costa Rica memorable. And next time try the Corned Beef Hash. We are the only ones around who serve that, along with the Reuben for lunch. Hope to see you again soon.

Eyal, the host, was a charming person, full of stories and information. We opted for the menu where he just keeps bringing the food which cost $39 each. The food was really good and I mean really good. The tuna was amazing, the filet mignon was really nice, it was all great. Highly recommended

The view is fabulous - the restaurant is well located on a knoll overlooking the lake with sweeping views...and benefiting from a cooling breeze. The service personnel are attentive and provide good suggestion as to what meals to try. Our family ate here several times over the course of a week and tried nearly everything on the menu - all was good.

We found this nice restaurant by accident, driving along the lake. The Texan owner is very friendly and the view is really amazing. Birds lovers are happy there since a whole lot of them fly by. Food was OK, a bit slow but, hey, we’re on holidays :)

We went here for dinner one night since it was recommended be a few of our friends that live in the area. Our experience was not the best for dining in the area. I ordered the pasta with walnut . It was so salty I cound not eat it. My wife order a rice dish and the rice was undercooked and crunchy. Even though I expressed my dissatisfaction to the waiter he either didn't understand or didn't care.
