NO TV OR INTERNET

Reviewed By 834gc

After reading the comments, I realized that AT LEAST since August 21 the TV AND INTERNET ARE NOT AVAILABLE at this hotel. The staff lies about it saying its temporary and 2 days later still nothing!! They set us up in a room for the dissabled, no chairs in the room (plus no tv or net) which made us feel very unconfortable in the room. Congrats to the restaurant staff, the food at dinner was amazing and they were quick and nice. Breaksast wasn’t plentiful but enough and overall nice.

Lovely room but avoid weekends

Reviewed By James L

I've never been so sorry to leave an unfavaourable review, because this was so near to being a real gem and great value. We were delighted first by the nice gardens going down to the river, then by a lovely airy and spacious room, better than many a five-star we've stayed in. The problems began at 2:am on the Friday night. A lot of very shouty and ignorant people were in the car park near the hotel for about half an hour. I lost a night's sleep, but the Saturday was much worse. At the same time of the morning a lot more revellers were bawling, playing loud monkey-music and slamming car doors. This went on for much longer. Another night's sleep lost and I was faced with a four-hour drive the next day.. I spoke to the receptionist who explained this happens every weekend, because there is some late night drinking den close by. Local residents have complained to the police, but nothing is done. Really, the hotel needs to do more to protect its guests and at the very least warn them. Maybe it's not so bad in winter. Breakfast also needs attention. Cakes and fruit were fine, but there was very little in the way of savouries. Plastic processed cheese and ham will just not do! The hotel seems to be staffed by only one person at a time, covering both bar and desk. The two that we met were very pleasant and helpful. They deserve better support from management.

When you are on a walking tour, you want a comfortable bed, good plumbing and quiet after a strenuous day. Os Poetas checked all the boxes. In addition, it had a wonderful location by the bridge, friendly staff and a very nice breakfast. We couldn't ask for more.

Casa da Portela de Sampriz

Sublime and memorable

Reviewed By 651prof

The Casa da Portela de Sampriz was more than we could hope for. Situated just outside of Penedes- Geres National Park, we were surround by amazing natural beauty. The Casa da Portela looked out upon incredible views. The manor is beautiful, authentic, decorated with pieces that have served generations. The rooms honor the past while creating a sense of serenity and calm with modern comforts. The hostess provided us with wonderful recommendations and great maps for hiking. Our walks were filled with great appreciation of the beauty of the area. As I am nervous on small roads at night, we would enjoy an evening snack (our own) with one of the wines they provided. There is a wonderful gathering room where one can play games (we did), chat, or watch TV. One evening we were able to arrange dinner on site. The kindness of the owner and the attention by the staff given to every detail make this memorable. Had we known how amazing this would be we would have booked 4 nights instead of three. We were so very sad to leave and cannot imagine anything living up to this experience.

Casa Do Correio Mor

A 17th century manor house, located in the historic centre of the medieval town of Ponte da Barca, with magnificent view over the River Lima valley is situated near the “gates” of the National Park Peneda-Gerês National Park. Casa do Correio Mor took its name after being the set of the Head Postmaster. The present owners, descendants of the original builder, the “Lacerdas” family, have restored the house to open their doors to “Turismo de Habitação”.

Not Up to Expected Standard

Reviewed By azoical

You may like to stay here if your idea of a hotel is a night at the museum but it doesn't meet the standards you expect at a four star hotel. There is a lot of dark wood and cabinets full of crockery that light up when you pass - it's spooky and gloomy. The display in the lower foyer is macabre. The rooms are large and clean but basic - there is no wi-fi, no telephone, no tv, no kettle, no fridge. Breakfast is disappointing - no croissant, no toast, no muesli, nothing cooked. There is no reception desk, we only saw one member of staff, she tried to be helpful but only spoke Portuguese and French. The hotel is in a good position with free parking in a public car park a couple of hundred metres away. Ponte da Barca is pleasant but not really geared up for tourists, there is no tourist information or walking equipment shop. There are restaurants but some are directed at locals. It is convenient to drive to the national park.

Great spot, great region

We spent 5 days here with two families with kids of 10 to 13. Julio is a fantastic host and the house, pool, bbq, garden are great. The region is good for different kind of walks, small towns, canyoning,.... Julio delivers bread to the house /room. Only small remark : the kitchen is poorly equipped. Material is a bit old, can use a refresh (as goes for the living room)

Magalhaes Hostel

Great views and standout host

Reviewed By Kiwi030

Stayed one night before joining a Southern Patagonian Fjords boat tour. We were welcomed by the owner a very passionate host who used his google voice translation app to answer our questions and provide us information. Our double room was adjacent to the lounge and both have magnificent views over the town and out to the harbour. Not all rooms will have this view so best to ask if it is available before booking. Breakfast is in a clean, attractive, room with tidy furnishings. The food is nicely presented and consists of cereal juice fresh homemade bread meat cheese etc. We were also each presented with a slice of delicious homemade cheese cake with an apple layer included as a sandwich. Different but delectable. As we were not joining the cruise until the evening the host offered for us to store our bags while we explored the town, about a 15 minute walk to the Plaza Armas. On our return we still had a few hours to fill so the host kindly invited us to use the lounge where he made us most comfortable. He then ordered a taxi. It was a pleasure to stay here and would do again.

Casa singular e experiência deslumbrante

Reviewed By barrosjos99
