Red Apple Restaurant and Lounge

Red Apple is a family run restaurant with a separate bar area. The food is delish! We've only eaten the Chinese food but they serve American as well. The portions are Large! Prices are quite reasonable. We have never been disappointed with our meal or our service here. It's not much to look at from the outside, so don't let that be your deciding factor to eat here!

If the front door looks as if it hasn't seen a bottle of 409 or Windex in recent memory, turn and walk away! The ancient carpet was badly in need of a vacuum. The Salt & Pepper shakers, Sugar container and Soy Sauce bottle on the table were all grubby beyond belief. I should have walked right then, but hope springs eternal when you're an inveterate optimist. I ordered The Twice Cooked Pork Lunch Special. The little chili on the menu indicated "Spicy" and it was. Hot & Sour Soup was not an option so I went with the Egg Flower. It was gelatinous with corn starch or some thickener and devoid of flavor. I did not eat it. It had slopped over onto the saucer rendering my Cracker package slippery and extremely difficult to open. By the time I managed to free my stale Crackers, my hands were in such a state that a trip to the restroom was in order to clean up. I really wish I hadn't seen that bathroom! My food arrived. The Pork was BBQ Pork which had been cooked again in a spicy Sauce with Cabbage, Carrots, Onions, Baby Corn and Green Bell Peppers. There was also an Egg Roll which I gave up on after the first bite. It tasted like it had been cooked in oil which should have been relegated to the bio-diesel bin some time ago. The Pork Fried Rice was completely devoid of Pork and was overcooked to the point of pastiness. Fried Rice is usually a bit of a challenge for me with chop sticks. This stuff came away in glops! I picked away at the Meat, Cabbage, Carrots and Corn, left the rest and pushed my plate away.My server, who was cheerful and friendly, asked me how I liked it. I had no choice but to tell her I was disappointed. Prudently recognizing the futility of offering me a take-home container, she did not bother.I am not a finicky or prissy guy. But rudimentary housekeeping and a minimal food standard should not be too much to ask of a restaurant.I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this dingy place to anyone!

We were on our way on a five day trip and stopped at Billy Jo's for breakfast about an hour into our trip. Upon entering this café, we had the feeling that maybe this was not the best selection of places. However, once we were seated and our server (also the chef) greeted us and made us very comfortable right off. We asked if he was Billy Jo; he laughed and said no, that BJ was dead! We all had a good laugh at that (sorry, Billy Jo). We all ordered the usual American breakfast. I had the bacon & cheese omelet with potatoes. We were surprised by the swiftness of our order brought to our table. All of the food was hot and very tasty. All in all, it was just a fine place to have a nice breakfast.
