I haven’t been to tops in years because we were served cold, frozen green beans. Tonight, I got a DoorDash order to give them a shot. Terrible idea. I got the meat loaf and crab cake dinner. It did not come cheap. The meat loaf, which is advertised as one of their specialties; was inedible. It also was not tasty. The meat was old and did not even look like beef. I threw it out. The crab cake was salty and while not as terrible, sub par. We threw the whole meal out, $44. After taxes, service and delivery charges. I may go back for their pies as they never disappoint but I can’t understand serving inedible food. I feel sick and wouldn’t serve that to my family. I like supporting local businesses over franchises, buying wouldn’t be getting dinner again.Hi Ann, What you are describing is 100% unacceptable. We are sorry about the lack of quality that came with your Doordash order. We will look into this to ensure it does not happen again. Please email me directly at [email protected] so we can make this right. If you could mention this Trip Advisor review too that would be helpful. Thank you.

This place has been here for years never failing to serve up their daily specials. Very good on the price and certainly on the portions. Menu is not huge but does not have to be as what they make they are some of the best at making.

Ordered a cheseburger and fries, burger was supposed to be well done, it was very very rare and way too much garlic powder on it. Fries were very good, service was pretty good, but prices, $2.95 for fries is too much. I would not come back mostly because I don't like rare hamburg, it is not worth the risk of getting very sick, though it is not often it happens, but it can kill you.

Glenville Queen Diner

Reviewed By tmclone

I've been eating at the Glenville Queen Diner quite regularly for nearly 34 years and I don't ever remember having a terrible experience there...until tonight. In no particular order, here is a list of the "unforced errors" they committed: The new menus were difficult to handle/use and the 10-20% price increase was off-putting, especially since the food is NOWHERE near as good as it used to be.The broccoli bite appetizer was lukewarm, although the honey mustard sauce was good. The waitress was AUDIBLY "unwell" (coughing/wheezing/sniffling) with a scratchy voice. I believe it is an NYS health code violation (part 14, sub part 14-1 IIRC) to have a sick person serving/handling food. You could have easily paved a small driveway with the gravel in her voice. I'm only kind of kidding. It took a VERY long time to get our soup/salad.After we had LONG finished our soup/salad, I was told that "they just served up the last of the Pork Diane" and then I was asked what I would prefer instead. I was bit nonplussed since we had ordered FORTY-FIVE MINUTES prior. You'd have thought they'd have put the order in the queue or have been told when we ordered that the last portion had already been requested, but...apparently not. And the Pork Diane was on the specials sheet. I reluctantly ordered the French Cut Pork Chop, which was also on the specials sheet. It took FOREVER to get our meals. As in, it was WELL OVER AN HOUR before the entrees arrived. We were told 3 times over the course of 15 minutes that, "The pork chops take a long time." Really? For pork chops ordered "medium-rare"? And, wait for it...my mother's senior menu "Chicken 'n Biscuits" arrived as "Mac 'n Cheese". Are you KIDDING ME? So we had to wait another 5 minutes for her to get ANY food at all, since she had not ordered any soup or salad. My mother said her meal was "fine", as in "edible diner food", and it's pretty hard to screw up chunks of chicken in gravy served over biscuits. She only ate one bite of the mashed potatoes, though, and she LOVES well-prepared potatoes. Both my husband and I ordered the pork chops. They were INCREDIBLY overcooked and exceedingly disappointing. I was able to eventually hack out a small piece of edible meat from the very top of the chop next to the bone. As in ONE BITE. The rest of the chop was absolutely impenetrable by fork or sharp knife! The mashed potatoes were cold and tasteless. If you told me they were instant potatoes I would believe you. Both hubbie and I found the "onion straws", which had been liberally spewed all over the plate to be disgusting. They were NOT listed as an ingredient on the specials menu, and putting onion straws over the top of sauced meat defeats the purpose of, well, the entire entree. It's a shame, really, since it's OBVIOUS that the thick, bone-in pork chops were simply the innocent victims of heinous cookery...they were "stepped on" so hard they were rendered inedible. My husband managed to gag down 75% of his pork chop ONLY because he was REALLY hungry, and he was able to actually cut most of his, which I was not. Both of our entrees came with an ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes which had a leathery "skin" on the outside. Either not real potatoes or they were sitting on the dish for a VERY long time. Not edible.I have sent back exactly 3 entrees in my 61 years and tonight's was one of them. It was just disgusting and inedible. The waitress asked me if I wanted something else instead and I said no, since I had completely lost my appetite. The waitress apologized and said, "I'll take that off your bill". Great, but when my husband paid the bill that $19 charge was still there. So...I had a $19 dinner salad with one bite of overcooked pork at the GQD ...AWESOME! /sarcasm.We ordered a piece of carrot cake to take home, and we discovered that for $5.75 (used to be $4.75 IIRC) we got a smaller piece of cake that doesn't taste as good. Sigh.Bottom line, we are NEVER going back there. It's very sad, since we strongly believe in patronizing local, one-off businesses, which we will continue to do. Just not this one. Ever. Again.
