Most Popular Thai food in Alexandria, Alexandria Governorate, Egypt

Reviews on Thai food in Alexandria, Alexandria Governorate, Egypt. The Pearl of the Mediterranean has an ambiance more in keeping with its neighbors to the north than with those in the Middle East. Site of Pharos lighthouse, one of the Wonders of the World, and of Anthony and Cleopatra’s tempestuous romance, the city was founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BCE. Today, Alexandria offers fascinating insights into its proud Greek past, as well as interesting mosques, the casino strip of the Corniche, some lovely gardens and both modern and traditional hotels. Strange sort-of-Chinese place on the roof of the Cecil. Friendly if slow service (you need to ask if you want soy sauce, for instance). The guys there are very nice.View: Amazing of course.Cleanliness: Disgusting & Dirty. Grease-smudged plates, filthy Astro-turf outdoor carpets. Wires everywhere. Food: Subpar. How can you serve Chinese food cooked by an Egyptian chef? Spring Rolls are thin and tasteless with a flavorless sauce that may even be ketchup and water mixed together.Sweet and Sour Chicken was caked in a dough paste and then deep fried. It was served with a tiny smear of sweet and sour sauce that wasn't sweet and wasn't sour. It was a horrible dish and should've been an embarrassment to serve.Glad I went but I'll never go back!

China House

People, first off - do not confuse this "China House" with the rooftop restaurant in the Cecil Hotel! The restaurant I describe is next to San Stefano Mall, adjacent to Fathalla Market! It has a dark interior; no views from the restaurant; smoking is permitted at table. Dark interior. Some may call it "romantic." I find it gloomy. Food here is fairly solid, and a welcome change from kebabs and tahini salads. I've been here 3 times, and enjoyed the "hot & sour soup" which really IS hot and sour since the chef is from Szechuan. (I know because I asked.) The sautéed eggplant was rather good, too. A few misses: a spicy shredded deep-fried beef dish was over cooked far beyond edible, with too much salt. There's not a lot of variety on the menu. Food tends to be deep fried, rather than "wok-ed." Not many good vegetable dishes. The service is friendly and attentive. China House also serves Thai and Indian food, which I have not yet tried. Frankly, if you have a need for Chinese food, you'll probably be OK here. Cash only! And prices are not moderate. Expect 150-200LE per person.

The restaurant is located beautifully by the sea allowing you to enjoy a wonderfull seen while having your meal. Staff is very friendly, and helpful. Service is fast and professional. Food is remarkably good. The menu covers plates from china, japan, and india so you can mix between them and you will never be disapointed. Prices are not cheap but not extremely high as well.
