As of the 2010 census, the population was 37,819, making it the highest populated municipality in Hampshire County (although the county seat is Northampton). The town is home to Amherst College, Hampshire College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, three of the Five Colleges. This about 1 month old restaurant is located on Route 9, (or Russel Street) in front of the Big Y shopping Plaza. Excellent Chinese food)

The restaurant is quite large and often crowded, so we prefer to eat at the bar, insuring that your food will be ordered right away and served promptly. Although you can order the "usual suspects," There is quite a variety of more authentic dishes, often using fresh local produce. While the dishes we had were quite good, particularly the dumplings in chili oil, don't rely on the heat ratings. Both our lamb dish and noodles were indicated as spicy, they were actually quite mild. Next time we will ask to amp up the heat. As a plus, drinks are cheap. A sizable Hendrick's martini was under $10.

This is my daughter's favorite restaurant! I don't like sushi but ordered their rice and shrimp. Plenty of food served but I would have liked the shrimp larger than being so small that you couldn't even see them. Other than that, a pleasant lunch.

We used to come here regularly about ten years ago and thought a meal here would be good for old time's sake. Wrong. The two dishes we ordered were clumsily preparedand almost gross. My husband ordered Squid stir fry with vegetables and hot sauce. It came on top of a buried mound of rice and some rice noodles. Not only that, but there were mussels and shrimp in the dish. In this case it was fine, but some diners are allergic to shellfish. He would have preferred all squid. I ordered the H.O.T. Bento Box: Tempura thickly caked in batter, overly sweet chickenteriyaki, industrial seaweed salad, shumai, and gyozas. Portions are generous and prices are low. Therefore its appeal to students is understood. But for us, never again!

I am a fan of Iya in South Hadley so I expected to like Iya Amherst. Unfortunately the waiter ignored us for almost 15 minutes and then was snooty and inattentive. We ordered ramen and the egg opened to a raw egg white interior. The broth was lukewarm and spiced with one tone. When we asked to have it heated more the egg was still closer to raw than cooked.I had nice wine but aside from that can’t recommend this Iya location.
