The Tap Room is an old style bar in the heart of Ypsilanti. The old style atmosphere is really cool and gives you a lake back feel. The bar area is nice to watch a sports game and have a drink. The prices are reasonable and the food is your typical bar food but is pretty good. The burgers are really good. This would be a good hang out with friends.

Really liked the staff, and the place had a nice energy with good music. Spinach Pie Bourekitos was almost flavorless, Huron Special Pita was dry and bland, and the cream of broccoli soup was over salted. My tomato Bisque soup, however, was superb. Suggest having soup and a sandwich here.

In the realm of dressing things up, a few idioms come to mindPutting lipstick on a pig - a completely wasted effortGilding a lilly - an unnecessary effortA goose in a dress - a temporary effect that’s just sillyThis place manages an unabashed embrace of all three. When someone names something an ale house they’d had better of made a visit to a real ale house - preferably in a county other than ours. They’re at once raucous, higgledy piggledy, lively holes where locals gather to swill good ale and eat good food. This place, hosed down in squashed smurf blue, has never attained any of its namesakes nuance. And on the three times I’ve been, not once wavered its complacent, boring plod toward whatever. Supposedly a burger mecca, after three of them I finally will conceded I can not in good conscious subject myself, nor my wallet, again. If a burger is your hook, you’d better make certain the people slinging them know how to temp them - or invest in a thermometer. If you’re serving an “angus” burger and I order it medium rare it had better have rested before and after the grill so the middle isn’t cooler cold. All three medium rare burgers I ordered were not really much over rare and no one ever asks fast enough - almost as if they know not to. The bone marrow butter is the lipstick in this rant. Why bother if your staff can’t temp a burger? The zippy sauce you can skip altogether as it is a deathly hollows, post mortem, zipless grey glop that provides little more than a musty, garlicky oil slick, for the cold, myoglobin tinted waters to pool upon as they ooze from a hastily cooked burger that didn’t so much as see a ten second rest from grill, to bun, to plate. I hate when places nickle and dime their customers - just charge $6.50 for the Brussels sprouts with or without the bacon. Figure out what you need to run a profitable business, don’t assume I won’t spend the money, if you ask me to. And if you have the balls to ask me to have the goods to back it up. The staff is always pleasant, the service decent, lapses forgivable even. But the prices are top shelf and the product - food wise - the very bottom. I want to love this place - great location, great potential, just poorly executed. Someone’s asleep at the wheel and needs to snap out of it.

We ate here for dinner and were pleasantly surprised with the variety of unusual dishes offered. This is truly bar food that is better than most others! We enjoyed two Michigan brews, Big Lake Haze & Cherry Creek Elephant, both of which were excellent. The special, a vegan lobster roll was creamy and delicious. The Impossible Sub was seasoned really well and was served hot. The Vegan Nacho Tots were spicy and very well prepared. The atmosphere was fun and the service fine. We recommend this bar and will return when we visit Ypsilanti again.

Sidetrack Bar & Grill

Sidetrack is well-known for its burgers -once rated in the Top Ten in the U.S. Beyond burgers, they have a wide-rangeing menu of sandwiches, salads, soups, even steaks and other mains.I've long been a fan of their Fresh Salmon ($12.95) -- "Fresh baked salmon stuffed w/ fresh spinach & artichokes (or unstuffed) served w/rice pilaf & grilled asparagus". I prefer the unstuffed version, as the stuffing seems overly rich and masks the flavor of the salmon itself. Sidetrack has great sweet potato fries, which you can sub in this entree for a modest upcharge. I really recommend this!Beer? You bet! Sidetrack has a tremendous selection of craft beers, with lots of world-class Michigan beers leading the way. Bottom line, looking past the noisy environment, a good place for a great burger, a great beer and plenty of other choices. Recommended!
