One of our favourite restaurants. Pleased with updated decoration inside which makes an even nicer ambiance. Thought food had improved and was told there is a new chef. Even better. Partner thought chocolate cake to die for. More reasons to find this place which is a little off the beaten track.

When I looked up booking.com the photos completely sold me the hotel. It looked like a little gem. As we were coming to the end of our holiday we wanted something special. In addition we upgraded our bedroom. But the hotel was anything but special ! When we arrived there was no parking at the hotel. Fortunately we were saved by a public car park 300 metres away. We walked into a rather gloomy reception to be greeted by no one. Eventually the stressed owner appeared. The bedroom couldn’t have been more of a disappointment It was the opposite to what we were expecting Old and tired with a linoleum floor and a huffing, puffing, struggling, clanking air conditioner which is in desperate need of replacement. It was however clean. The small crowded swimming pool was a major disappointment and once again bore little resemblance to the online photo. The food was the only positive part of the whole experience. We felt cheated and deceived and will not be returning there.

We spike moored just upstream of the bridge so a 2 minute walk. Service was fantastic with adequate English too. Clean and modern decor. The pigeon perfectly cooked and the steaks good quality. The grand marnier soufflé the best soufflé ever, must have been 75mm higher than dish. Everything done to perfection. Noticed the head chef quietly talking to all kitchen hands continually and everyone listening and looking happy and engaged. This was reflected in the cooking. First Class and still our #1 pick in France

The Vinauberge is right on a bend on the Canal Du Midi and the building is gorgeous. I visited last week just as they had opened again and the food was lovely. There was a lamb special for Easter which my boyfriend had and enjoyed and I had a steak which was lovely. Great array of wines to choose from and friendly service.

Les carrasses is exactly that we were missing here in our region. Beautiful property, breathtaking views... modern and traditional at the same time. Most of the clients are anglophones, so the menue is friendly to international tastes. Possibility to drink at the bar, eat outside or inside. Menue changes often. We remarked that the food was of higher quality during the low season. Looks like the chief struggles to meet the high demand at the high season and not always gets a success in it.Two main negative points: the service and the price of wines. The service really needs to be improved. As for the prices of wines... well, guys, we know as well as you that we are in the region where the wines cost pea-nuts. So, we are quiet shocked not to find any single bottle on the wine list cheaper than 28 euros (+++). This only reduces the consolation. Apply the fare price (not multiplied by 5) and clients will order 2 bottles instead of one. Otherwise nice property, we will be back and advise our friends to go there.Hi Mary,Thanks very much for your review. We're glad you liked the Château so much, though we're sorry you didn't feel that the service was up to scratch on this occasion - we work hard to ensure excellent service at all times, and have brought your comments to the attention of the team. We're a bit surprised by your comments about the price of the wine though. We pride ourselves on showcasing the best of Languedoc wines at great value for money, with the wines starting at €19 for our own Les Carrasses cuvees; We have 35 different bottles at less than €28 (more than half the list!). Perhaps you were looking at the list of daily specials? In any case, we look forward to seeing you again at Les Carrasses, and the opportunity to show you some of the great, reasonably priced wines we offer. Thanks again for your review.

All dishes were brilliant right from the salads through to lamb shanks (nice sticky roasted lamb), Seafood pie (soufflé) excellent with choice seafood. The St. Jacques scallops huge and perfectly cooked. Deserts, superb. Could not fault this place, our #2 for meals in France.

Le Provence

Le Provence was the first restaurant that we visited in Capestang at the recommendation of Brits living there. It's a cozy, full-menu pizzeria/restaurant with with a pleasant courtyard, helpful staff, and reasonable rates.

Six of us traveled from Malta to enjoy a few days on the Canal. Capestang was one of our stop overs. We found Le Provence right next to the canal on a beautiful evening and sat outside to enjoy a meal in wonderful surroundings. The food was excellent especially the steaks - perfectly cooked and huge! A good wine selection also. Our waitress was a pleasure and more than capable of handling our jokes.
