It was about 9pm when we entered the deserted restaurant, we remained as the only guests until we left at 10:30pm. To start, it went well, greeted and seated quickly, menus provided in English and drinks order taken. We knew when we sat, that the hard wooden chairs would start to be uncomfortable after about 45 minutes (called the McDonalds technique-encouraging quick turnover of guest if chairs aren't too comfortable) The salad arrived 1st, this was very nice combination of iceberg, grated cheese and carrot with boiled egg and sweet corn. The 2 pizzas arrived a bit later, on the number 28 we had swapped the pineapple for mushrooms, which the restaurant was happy to accommodate. Unfortunately the mushrooms were from a tin, which are always a bit slimy and are void of flavor. Watch out for the olives, they are not pitted and would break a tooth if your not careful. The pizza #25 did taste of garlic which was a nice surprise. Both pizzas had a crisp base and arrived hot. The waitress, looking lovely in a red toga style outfit became engrossed in conversation with 2 friends at the bar and forgot about us, we were never asked for drink replenishment and finally after trying to attract attention for some time, I went up to the bar to ask for the bill and a to-go-box. Dear customers, Thank you for taking the time of writing a rewiev.We are glad to hear you enjoyed your meal and also thankful for the suggestions you made, we most certainly will take those into account. Unfortunately, we are not that happy to hear about the last part of your experience with us and we will endeavour to avoid this from happening again as it is not up to the standars we have been working with for so many years. As is the case with many restaurants in Merida, La Mafia makes good use of an old building to create an interesting, attractive dining space. However, the menu is somewhat less interesting.We found the food overly rich - the chef appeared unable to resist featuring, or adding cheese and other dairy products. There is a limited selection of pasta dishes where cream has not been added, but they failed to excite. Extremadura produces some of the finest ingredients anywhere, but here they fail to sing.
