Entrecanas

Tapa's bar, home-made meals with the best natural products.

Reviewed By stonellas - Wanaka, New Zealand

The restaurant is quite close to where we were staying and as we liked the menu which included a few non Spanish style tapas items when we had walked by it earlier in the day we thought we would give it a try. We got there early for Spain around 9pm as they didn't take Reservations and managed to get a table inside as it was a lot cooler. As there were 4 of us we ordered a selection of tapas for us all to share. Whenever we order tapas we always seem to get some really excellent dishes and some that are definitely not to our taste. So it proved at Entrecanas -- the meatballs were superb, probably the best all of us had tasted. However the curry chicken crocquttas were a definite no no !!!!. We also ordered the chicken strips with mustard sauce which were also very good -- the chicken wasn't dry and the sauce was just tangy enough -- though not a traditional tapas. The cod fried balls were also very good though again we were less keen on the piquante chicken which was a bit salty for our taste. The French fries were excellent. The restaurant was very busy but despite that the service was very good , helpful as we were told when we had ordered too much, and friendly. A pretty good evening and great value for money --- not brilliant but definitely not average.

We had a great lunch at Rex Numitor in Merida. It was the perfect spot to take a break from our Cadiz to Madrid trip. The services was excellent, the food was delicious and we enjoyed it a lot. A bit pricey, but a good alternative.

Shangri-La Vegetarian Restaurant

Reviewed By madamedefarge - Derby, United Kingdom

We ate lunch here during our visit to Merida. They don't do a menu del dia, so be prepared to pay more than you might expect for lunch. The menu wasn't that extensive and some items that appeared on the written menu outside weren't on the printed menu that we saw inside.
We chose to have the burrito and the lasagne. Both were reasonable enough, but not big portions and not very hot either. The cocktails were nice on a very hot day (the restaurant didn't seem to have aircon as all the windows were open) and we had a pina colada and caipiranha.
Overall, we were very disappointed by this experience and the food on offer.

Braseria Belloso

Reviewed By PeterHarvey - Norwich UK

Writing this review before seeing previously posted ones; we thought this was a great place to eat in Merida - after all the pork is from their own local acorn-fed (Bellota) animals - and on a Sunday late September it was ultimately completely full of local families (so what does that tell you ?) and luckily being Brits we arrived early relatively speaking and got a table. So, we had brandade croquettes, snails, and the local pork - one dish cheeks braised in wine and the other lomo in almond sauce. Plus some very decent wine from the Raposo region. We ordered half potions and still had to ask for a doggie bag. It was ridiculously good value. Go here rather than the touristy places up by the theatre.

Capriccio Italiano

Tired of the Spanish repetitive meals? This place was packed with locals enjoying themselves. The Gourmet Salad was one of the best we've had in Spain, the pizza had a light crust with perfectly cooked toppings & a spicy seasoning you could add if you like. The small dessert cups were the perfect finish to the meal. It was such a pleasure to have Maria Angeles switch to English to make our experience meaningful; we haven't had this in the other Spanish towns. Make sure you say 'yes' to the offer of orange liquer after your meal!! And all of this a 1 minute walk from the Tryp Medea hotel! Lovely Evening.

When one visits Merida almost always one walks from Roman Theater/Amphitheatre to Diana Temple along the Calle Sagasta.
Pay attention to number 9 – Sagasta 9, Restaurant.
When you walk in go to the pateo and enjoy very good Spanish food. I advise you to choose only raciones and tapas. Everything is good but I like particularly the croquetas and the tuna. Enjoy your meal!

Like many places in Merida quite bright - however well done - decor could almost be naff but they pull it off.
The jamon was superb as was the foie. Eventually we established that Gambon were prawns ( gambas everywhere else in Spain ) and they were great tempura style.
Excellent value wines & good service.

Rated number one, we gave it a try, and were not disappointed. A light, modern, hip place with a great menu and wonderful food. Good vegetarian choices, but also non-vegetarian items. We had falafel, hummus, and a couple of stir fries. Reasonable and decent wine and excellent service fit the bill. Must reserve ahead!
