As we were the only diners for Sunday lunch, we thought this would be a poor experience. It was not.Great sea views (although the beach is forgettable) on a sunny, warm to hot day and copious servings of sweet and sour pork made for an enjoyable meal. All the better that it was complemented by well spaced tables and delightful 70s pop music, not 'techno'.The staff member was young and low key. The meal was great value and inexpensive.

Ol' Pub is the more decent bar around La Union Surfing Beach area, It is huge with indoor sofas and picnic table type seating al resco. The place is well decorated with vintage posters, art dco and even a WW2 Jeep as its centerpiece, a popular "selfie" spot. There is a good menu and drink list that include (new) cocktails. Beer seem to be the staple here though, they sell it by the bucket at 300 for six bottles. Food is very good, popular appetizer is the street foo KFC (Kikiam, Fish ball and Chicken ball), h the the Lechon Manok (Grilled Chicken) that has a booth outside, the pizzas and many delightful finds! They offer live bands on weekends and could be packed, occasional local movie and TV stars can be seen in this place, it can stay open late on weekends. This is La Unions to see and be seen fun place!

This has certainly added some new flavour to a city center with mostly Chinese/local food or Manila brand fast foods. We had to sit and wait for a while on arrival due to birthday parties (and graduation) but there is a small seating area and the table was prepared quickly once ready. The waiters were very attentive despite how busy the resto was and I was surprised how quickly the food arrived thinking we would have a long wait.... and the food was still freshly cooked. Pretty much among the best pizza I have had in philippines and up there with some of the best pizza I have had outside Italy... my wife even thinks it rivals some of the pizza we had in Italy. Garlic shrimp pizza was tasty with a little spicy kick, wonderful quesadillas - a side order yet was as big as our 9 inch pizza, proper homemade thick cut fries, tasty coated mojos with a creamy gravy, delicious buffalo wings, bigger than I have seen anywhere and served with garlic dip. The food looks great and the pizza served on wooden boards. The have coffee, frappe, homemade soft drinks and ice teasFood was way too much for 6 of us and we were surprised how low the bill when we got it.Clean and modern resto on two floors with clean toilets. Only comment for improvement is the chicken is a little oily

The Big Kahuna Bar and Restaurant

We deliberately arrived here 4 hours before check in so we can have early lunch at 10am. The restaurant staff said they could not accept our lunch orders as they were still serving breakfast. Understood. They hesitatingly accepted our pre orders at 10:47am but served our dishes quite quickly after at 11:20 am. We ordered the cheese pizza and the meat lovers pizza for the kids; the Salo Salo grilled set with squid, bangus, inasal chicken, pork bbq, kinilaw na tuna and talong salad.; the crispy pata, kare kare, blackened tuna and chicken cordon bleu. The food was at best ok. Nothing spectacular. The crispy pata was a disappointment because it seems it was cut before being fried so it didn’t have that combination of crispness and chewiness one looks for in a crispy data. The kare kare was obviously cooked with peanut butter and used beef chunks. Not the best we have tried. The star for me was the inihaw na bangus- flavorful. Net, the lunch itself was ordinary but we enjoyed it with the view of the ocean.Another point- the rest rooms were unclean and my request to have them cleaned before use fell on deaf ears.

We had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at Awesome Hotel Restaurant, we arrived at lunch time and ordered a very pleasant bottle of Chardonnay. We enjoyed it's crisp coolness while overlooking the ocean and enjoying the breeze. From the very broad and comprehensive menu we selected the Norwegian Sushi Boat. The experience of devouring the delicious Norwegian salmon with a great wine from the coolness of the restaurant while watching the happenings on the beach was second to none. The quality and quantity of the food was so brilliant and we enjoyed it so much that we decided to stay the entire afternoon and eat dinner there as well. We wanted to try local cuisine for dinner and from the extensive choices available we decided on Chopsuey (vegetable stir fry) and Lechon Kawali (deep fried pork belly). The vegetables of the Chopsuey were incredibly fresh and delicious and the succulent pork belly was cooked to perfection. We really could not have wished for anything better and were completely and utterly satisfied.
