We were away for a birthday weekend, and were not planning to eat here, but the thunderstorm changed our minds! We're glad it did, the service was excellent, and the wine recommendation perfect. My husband had a steak which he said was very good (it's difficult to get good steak in Portugal esp in the countryside) which came with green beans and mushrooms, a bit surprised there were no potatoes but he said it didn't need them. I had stuffed chicken breast, which was tasty but having 2 small ones was too much for me, as it got a bit boring. There was a little coating and the stuffing kept it moist, it came with mixed veg, which were very nice. Worth paying a bit more than normal for a meal, and a special occasion. Did not have a dessert because they looked very unappetising and typically Portuguese...mainly made with eggs.

A small restaurant on the way to Marvao. We went there on somebody's recommendation and it was worth it. There was typical Portuguese food even connected with the region Alantejo. So, anybody should not have doubts about trying there some fish or meat. During our first visit I ate some cheeks in thick gravy. The owner Susanna recommended it. The meat turned out to be soft and tender. Generally, the cuisine there is based on regional ingredients and its simplicity is really surprising. And what is more, for those who have a sweet tooth I recommend to try some apple pie made by Susanna. It was delicious! Apart from that, it is worth mentioning that Susanna speaks English.

We were greeted by the friendly manager in the street while looking for a local place of interest and then met the manager at the restaurant. His service was great - made super recommendations for local appetizers and main course. Kept us well informed of the menu and his service was simply outstanding. I should add there was one older waiter who seemed abrupt and a bit rude but this did not spoil our meal. Complements to the manager and the kitchen staff for an outstanding meal. Dear Customer and Friend, Thank you for giving us the privilege of serving you 3 times during your stay: Happy New Year for your family, it was also a privilege to enjoy your company. Restaurante Sever Grill

This place came highly recommended by a local. Id did not live up to such high compliments but was, nevertheless an enjoyable occasion. Couvert of small tasty olives, tuna paste, sardine paste and butter arrived with some bread. Starters were prawns in olive oil and garlic and also fried mushrooms and garlic served with an awful lot of salt.I went for the lamb chops but these did not live up to expectations and were not the best I have experienced. My own would have been tastier but of course I am biased. It came with an awful lot of patatas fritas and some veg. Another main meal was decent grilled chicken again with a lot of chips and salad. The local man next to us had a HUGE steak again with a lot of chips and he seemed to be enjoying it. The staff were extremely friendly and informative regarding a choice of wine - they suggested a better (and cheaper) bottle to what we originally thought of getting. A free glass of a local drink rounded off the evening. Too full for deserts.

J.J.Videira Rua Nova 11, Marvao (really in Portagem) 7330-328, Portuga had excellent food for a reasonable price, good and friendly service, pride in ownership, down-home traditional Portuguese cooking. The charm for us was walking down from the Convent near the Castle, on an ancient road, through cork oak forest, and then finding this gem of a dining experience.

This restaurant was mentioned on a article in a British Airways in-flight magazine, so I made a note of it as we were planning to go to this area, and what a good decision this was. We would have never come across this place if we had just been travelling around and decided to stop somewhere for lunch. The restaurant is situated on a river bank in front of a Hotel (Sever Hotel). You can just see the Hotel building from the road, but most of it is below road level, so you cannot see the amazing tree-covered patio where this restaurant sits. It is a large restaurant with a good number of staff. Service was good and the food was excellent. Duck, Wild Boar, Partridge, and other local delicacies. One of the stand-out meals of our trip.
