Reviews on Diner food in Portland, Maine, United States. From ornate mansions to ocean views, this charming city - the largest in Maine - will enchant you. Saunter down the brick sidewalks and cobblestone streets of the revitalized Old Port District, where you can browse through bookstores, explore craft shops and eat to your heart's content. Visit the Portland Head Light, which dates back to 1791, and is the oldest lighthouse still in continuous use in the U.S. The great poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is the city's native son, and you can visit his childhood home, the Wadsworth-Longfellow House. With kids in hand, enjoy the highly interactive Children's Museum of Maine. And then go next door to the calmer Portland Museum of Art, a small, but eclectic museum with Impressionist works, Maine landscapes by Homer and Wyeth and other collections. Land or sea is an option here, so if you're tired of the street life, take one of the popular scenic cruises or whale watches, or hop on a ferry to the islands in Casco Bay. At the end of the day, and without kids in hand, unwind and rest your tired feet at one of the city's brewpubs.

Becky's diner is a must when you're in Portland. It is a true "local" restaurant with great service, a very friendly and welcoming staff, upstairs dining with a view and without question an absolute amazing lobster roll and clam chowder.

Marcy's Diner

Yeah, it sounds weird to eat a root beer float muffin. But my husband thought it was absolutely awesome. The server suggested we have it grilled (cut in half, crispy, delicious). Do consider going here for breakfast or lunch and be sure to have this muffin. The rest of the food was fine - typical diner fare. The only real drawbacks to Marcy's are no air conditioning (we were there during a summer heat wave) and cash only. But steps away from the art museum, which is also a must-see place in Portland.

We were in the mood for a diner lunch, so we stopped into the Miss Portland Diner. The diner is described as a piece of history and has an old-timey look from the outside. Inside, it has a more modern and somewhat spartan appearance. There are tables and booths in the the bright main dining area. It's certainly not over-decorated, in contrast to those places that try to recreate an old-time look. The vibe is pleasant and casual. It's a popular place for lunch, and all kinds of people seem to eat here. We had breakfast specials. Mine was the sausage gravy biscuits with two eggs. This was quite good, with eggs cooked properly and generous amounts of gravy and home fries. The gravy was quite good, with lots of chunks of tasty sausage. The biscuit was not quite southern-style, and was more like cake than biscuit, but it was still pleasant. Service was friendly and efficient. We got lots of free coffee refills. It's a nice place, and I would certainly visit again.
