Hamburgers, all of sizes and compositions, from small to very large. Very good. Had small hamburger twice, and then pizza burger. Very fast service. recommend - not lots of other items but specializing in their specialties. I understand their fish fry on Friday night is really good, too, but I did not have it myself.

I usually don't care to dine at KFC. They are usually dumpy and unclean. I also didn't care for their menu selection and prices. However since they have introduced the Fill-Ups and bowls I like them better. We found this location to be clean and the staff was professional and custome oriented. Would visit again if in the area.

Applebee's

We eat at Applebee’s quite often & normally enjoy it. The bar area here was full & quite loud. Husband had potato soup (a little too cheesy) & Caesar salad (too much dressing). Don’t know why all restaurants smother salads w dressing! I had the SW grilled chicken salad. Asked for regular ranch dressing ON THE SIDE. Came w dressing on it and was the cilantro ranch....wrong on both counts. Choices to eat in the area are limited so this is what you get. Hopefully we just caught them on a little off night.

Village Garden Family Restaurant

Village Garden Family Restaurant is a locally owned, family friendly restaurant with a wide variety of offerings. They also have a banquet room and gambling machines for your enjoyment in Salem, IL.

After a day of traveling, we were tired and wanted a "comfort" meal. We also like to try locally-owned establishments. The Village Garden seemed to fit the bill. Not fancy, but good food. They were hosting alumni groups, which added to the ambiance. Our server was most helpful and took her time even though I know she must have been swamped! I ordered a salad while my husband ordered a pasta dish. Everything was going well until my salad was delivered with a fly in it. I lost my appetite for another salad, so I helped my husband with his pasta dish. Hey, it happens. At least they took the salad off our charge without being asked.
