Kāneʻohe is a census-designated place (CDP) included in the City and County of Honolulu and located in Hawaiʻi state District of Koʻolaupoko on the island of Oʻahu. In the Hawaiian language, kāne ʻohe means "bamboo man". According to an ancient Hawaiian story a local woman compared her husband's cruelty to the sharp edge of cutting bamboo; thus the place was named Kāneʻohe or "Bamboo man". The population was 34,597 at the 2010 census. Kāneʻohe is the largest of several communities along Kāneʻohe Bay and one of the two largest residential communities on the windward side of Oʻahu (the other is Kailua). The commercial center of the town is spread mostly along Kamehameha Highway.

Best arrive early. The restaurant opens at 430pm, we were there at 440, and by 5 it was full! We got the last open table directly overlooking the ponds, amazing view of the mountain and jungle-like vegetation. Go for the Small Plates, get them all and share - poke, shrimp, ahi, ribs, sizzling mushrooms, calamari - I forget them all. The main entrees - served to an adjacent table looked huge! Not to be missed.

We were starved, just in from the beach, didn’t know what to order. The place was packed with locals. Lots taking big bags of take-out. The woman behind the counter took the time to explain the spices and flavors, gave us multiple samples. We ordered the salmon and it was amazing! Fast service, so so so fresh and scrumptious! Free onsite parking, full meals under $12.

Cajun King

I've seen a few reviews on a few sites where people get spun up about the "served in a bag, with a plastic bib, over butcher paper" experience. I've also noticed that none of these people have probably never experienced anything but a liquor sanitized version of Louisiana. There are many excellent fine dining establishments in that state, and then there are the staple, working-class, "suck da heads" places to get some great crawfish and seafood boils. If you walked into Cajun King expecting the "fancy" restaurant, you are going to be disappointed. If you wanted a good seafood boil for a reasonable price with some good kick to it, then you should be fairly satisfied. Every time I've visited the wait was relatively short, the food was cooked well and seasoned as requested. Prices aren't as cheap as when I lived in Louisiana, but the food is almost as good. I've certainly had better, but I've had much much worse (and from places that are supposedly cajun on Oahu). I've only eaten at the Kaneohe and Aiea restaurants, but I've had a delightfully messy time with each visit. My advice: A crawfish boil IS messy and there is no polite way to suck heads. This isn't a fancy restaurant, and Popeye's is a chicken place. Don't go to a plate lunch place and then complain that you were served your food in a styrofoam container instead of fine China.

Nice and clean with cloth napkins and clean floors. Dim sum is as good as downtown. Overall food is done with a light touch not with heavy shoyu or oyster sauce. Try the sweet sour fish fillet for an old favorite done well and their chicken with ham is done with real Virginia Ham. The lobster special is $10.99 any style but we like the ginger onion then the butter with cheese believe it or not. Nice place to eat in with a marble floor entrance and modern atmosphere. Service can be spotty but English is not their native language and they do try hard. Ask for waiter Michael he is very good and is a great show. Try Joyful I think its one of the best in the state.
