Hemingway's Island Grill

We drove from Panama City, Fl to meet family who drove over from New Orleans to dine at Hemingway’s Grill. I enjoyed the variety of the buffet and my husband loved the fried oyster platter. The other family members really liked the huge burger and The Hawaiian Shrimp plate. Oh, and the KEY LIME PIE was a generous slice that we ALL loved. The atmosphere was casual and we chose to eat on the deck over looking the water. The view and the breeze was perfect.

Have been coming to this restaurant for years. I typically get the Greek items, a steak, maybe Seafood- (fried). Tonight, we arrived about 40 minutes before close (on a Friday night). Ordered some apps (2), some drinks (2), and 2 entree's. Apps arrived and were mediocre- one app arrived without everything included, the other (Spanakopita) was barely cooked through. We did not complain! Both my Wife and I have been in food service before (I attended culinary school and was a chef for many years) and understand that some days food doesn't come out perfect. SO, we muddled through the apps- not bad, just not done to completion...Waiter swings by and informs us they are out of Angel Hair pasta - Wife picks spaghetti instead. (This is the point where I start to question the restaurant) No problem....sometimes you run out of stock......it's all good......... The entree's begin to arrive. My Wife's entree is the first to come (It is the "Chicken Deluna" $15). Oops! They decided to put Fettuccine noodles instead of Spaghetti. There are 4 "twig-like" asparagus on the plate, the "Sauce" has broken, the chicken appears to be "boiled" or microwaved, and (most importantly) the Fettuccine is under by 6-8 minutes- like chewing leather.....OK......the excuses we are affording one of our old fav Gulf Breeze restaurants are wearing thin.............still havn't complained though.......trying. to. be. understanding...(and losing) Then my dinner arrives- (I ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter $25). FYI: I've never ordered anything Broiled from this restaurant before- but, I'm assuming they know what BROILED is- it's all over their menu. My "Seafood Platter" came in a bowl with 2 inches of water. Clearly, the "chef" (this term is used loosely) had not BROILED my dinner but BOILED IT. The worse part???? (Stupidly) I try one scallop (that looked the most cooked). IT'S @#$%^&* RAW! I tell the waiter (who was very nice- I've never had a problem with the Front of the House- he actually received a tip and a note that said "Great Service"- not his fault that the Back of the House is incompetent!) He tells management......and management comes over (she appeared to be 17-22??). She understands my complaint and agree's.... They comp the Seafood Platter and I am told by her, "We are thinking about taking this (cooking method) off the menu, because people keep complaining". Thanks for the warning management.......Now, as I sit here with a queasy stomach writing this, my "tolerance" is over........ Everyone knows that this place has been slowly getting worse year after year.......starting around 2015. The quality and quantity of the food is but a shadow of what it once was. The "Greek" offerings are no longer authentic. Everything tastes "fresh frozen" or "Sysco's homemade" now. It is an absolute shame..............................and truly sad......................................I fed my Wife's left-over "Chicken Deluna" to the trash bin when we got home........Beware!

My wife and I were down in Pensacola for the weekend and after a day looking around, we wanted to have a nice sunset dinner and drink by the beach. We added our names to the waitlist and then found a spot to kill time at the bar.Our bartender, Savannah, was awesome! Even though it was busy, she was very thoughtful and recommended various drinks. We were finally called to be seated and didn't move far from the bar and asked if we could sit down below by the beach. No problem, very accommodating. We sat for a few minutes and realized that the servers might've thought we were just sitting there enjoying drinks. I waved to one of the servers and let her know and she got her manager, Clayton. Awesome guy with a great attitude towards service, apologized. Wasn't necessary since it wasn't long that we were waiting, but he was truly sincere. Afterwards our server, Phillip, provided exceptional service. Between Savannah, Clayton, and Phillip, they made our night. Highly recommend if you're in town.

Usually when my family and I go to Pensacola, we visit the same three restaurants each time. On this trip, we decided to switch it up a bit and try our Crabs on the Beach. We went for lunch and were immediately seated. There was my husband, myself, my two toddlers and my two twelve year olds. Our waitress, Amy, was as sweet as can be and when we ordered our food, she asked questions to ensure it was exactly how we wanted our order. The attention to detail and care she showed meant a lot because you just don’t see that much these days. Now, we had just gotten done playing at the beach and it was my toddler son’s nap time so he was a little grumpy. Every now and then he would let our a whine or a grunt, yet that didn’t seem to phase our server or the nearby servers and we never once got a nasty look which can happen when you bring toddlers into a restaurant(however if our toddler was being disruptive to other diners we would and do take him out to the vehicle while the others finish, we are def considerate of others!). The service was very quick and the food was amazing! My husband and I were silent almost the whole meal because we were enjoying it so much! The kids all thought their meals were great and the added bonus of a view of the gulf didn’t hurt either. After the kids were done, they went to play on the playground to wear out some more energy. We are now adding this restaurant into our usual rotation of places we go to eat while at the beach. But the best thing about our whole experience there was the superb service of our waitress Amy. I highly recommend trying this place out :)Thank you Chelsea!!! We appreciate you giving us a shot, but we are even more thankful that we got added to the rotation. Glad to hear that you enjoyed your experience, as well as the service from Amy. We will make sure to pass along all the compliments to her and reward her for her job well done! We look forward to seeing you again!

Super fresh food, great service and employees seem very happy. The appetizer crab cake is perfect for a meal if you don't want a large dinner, it was delicious. Tables at night outside are nice and you can hear the ocean. A bit dark but lovely. The prices compared to very touristy overrated restaurants can't be beat. We loved every meal.Thank you for the 5 bubble review! We are very happy that you enjoyed all of your dining experiences with us! We do not have any overhead lighting on the patio because of the sea turtle lighting laws. First time at restaurant, first time trying Flounder Chowder. Wife and I loved both. Place is huge and on the water. Chowder also had lots of shrimp and potatoes. Warm dinner rolls served with it. From the menu, the specialty drinks looked awesome as did the tower of onion rings we saw served. Also has a bandstand so I guess they have live music on weekend nights??We are pleased to hear you and your wife enjoyed our delicious chowder on your first visit to Flounder's. You're right, we do have music on our stage nightly during our busy months. Thank you for your review! We hope you are able to join us for some food and fun next time you visit.

Cosse's on the Beach

Traditional New Orleans Seafood, Po'Boys, and Oyster Bar.

Reviewed By ejcrlc

My husband & I are regular visitors to Pensacola Beach, but had never eaten at Cosse's. It's a convenient walk across the street from Emerald Isle where we are staying. Boy are we glad we gave Cosse's a try for lunch today. As others have stated, the dining area is small, but the efficient staff cleans tables promptly without making patrons feel hurried. My husband had the alligator/frog leg combo basket, I chose a alligator/oyster basket. Both were big hits! Even the fries that are seasoned just right were good. The spicy red gravy sauce that comes with these baskets was a huge hit, flavor really complimented our food choices. Will definately be repeat visitors from here on.

Last night of our trip and decided to try a different place instead of our usual restaurants. Server was nice and helpful; found out red fish is not fresh, so that was disappointing. I have an issue with up charge for seasoning, like blackened; 50 cents, is it really that much? Red fish is what is used, you can order other varieties for a higher price. Several mistakes in our order, but they were resolved quickly. Food was good, nothing special. Fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, soft shell crab po boy; all were tasty.
