Florida Keys Bed and Breakfast Inns | Places to Stay in Florida Keys

April 20, 2023 Tambra Mccollister

Stretching 126 miles south toward Cuba, the stunning Keys are a perfect escape. Highlights along the way include Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine Key and the irrepressible Key West. Get up close with an amazing array of fish while snorkeling, diving or fishing in the warm turquoise waters. Creeks, coral and costumed spectacles are other lures along the way. Highway 1 is a spectacular ribbon tying together the islands and atolls of this paradise between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic.

A First Class Affordable Dive Resort

We stayed in an updated 1 bedroom apt at the resort. Everything was new and clean, I only wish there were more tables in the place, apt #4, it had ONLY 1 small dining table. But the AC was awesome and kitchen amenities perfect. We enjoyed cocktails by the pool and sunsets on the resort's beach. Extremely friendly resort and dive staff, Shout out to the boat crews, they were awesome. We're already talking about returning there. Late May was a tricky month to go for diving, a weather system eliminated a couple of our dive days, but glad to know Amoray played it safe with the dive conditions.

Hotel that feels like a town house

Slam-bam on the busiest and lively street in Key West a couple of characteristic house joined together to form a small hotel, with very nice garden in the back with pool and parking space. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere created by people who obviously love their job. The relaxed atmosphere is especially noticeable during breakfast in the garden: no feeling of a ‘hotel-breakfast’ whatsoever. Room very clean and excellent bed.

Omigod. What a waste of money!

A friend, who had been here many times, booked this place. Since she liked it, I did not look on line. Big mistake! Although there were going to be three of us in this room, $781 was absolutely excessive. At best, the room was worth $150 (split 3 ways) This is a hostel -- not a hotel. We arrived after midnight and the night man at the front desk was extremely rude. He was confrontational and demanding versus trying to accommodate tired travelers. The room was a barrack -- no joke. There were two metal bunk beds and the top beds had not even been made up. There were several lockers in which we were supposed to protect our belongings and towels. Luckily, we were only there for one night. In the morning I escaped early for coffee by the pool. There were leaves in the pool and beer cans around the edge. There was no WIFI -- at least it did not work. When we tried to get mimosas (prepared at the front desk), there was no one there. Presumably because the front desk person was also cleaning the rooms (as the room cleaner heard us complaining by the pool and said he'd make them). I have no problem paying $780 for a room but this was insane. I assume others got better rates because most of the others around the pool were in their 20s (versus 50s like us).

Terrible customer care - Thives

This place is ridiculously inconsiderate and the so called manager Micheal Nicolas is a complete JERK and a THIEF, to say the least! He has no business etiquette or regard for people’s safety! He wouldn’t refund our money nor reschedule our reservation although our ferry down to Key West was canceled due to the inclement weather brought upon by storm “Alex”. To make matters worse, someone in our group tested positive for COVID. He expected us to ignore weather related travel advisories, make our way down to his hotel against all odds and expose not only his staff but the rest of his guests to COVID. How would you like to stay in such a place?!???? Also days prior to our trip, as I watched to storm unfold I kept in touch with Iluka, a front desk agent at the property and Booking.com to explore our options should the weather worsen and they both stated to rest assure we would either get a refund or be allowed to reschedule for a later date. All Lies!

This is a complex of older hotel rooms/apartments, but they are very clean. Our room featured a full kitchenette and was spacious for a studio. The pool was nice in the evening, there are plenty of shaded picnic tables on property and extras like corn hole boards and plenty of grills. Porky's is a short walk away for lunch, dinner or drinks.

A Gem In Key Largo

Reviewed By 375kristyl

My husband and I visited Kona Kai while Key hopping for our 25th wedding anniversary in May. This is the cutest little resort ever and the staff is the friendliest we've encountered. They are so kind and gave us lots of suggestions for restaurants and made our reservations for us. The resort is quiet and tranquil. The garden is beautiful and beach is private. The pool is small, but nice and there are shady areas to relax in. Grab a book and read in the hammock on the beach. Rooms are like small apartments with a living area and full kitchen. This worked great for us as he's a morning person and I'm a night owl. Highly recommend doing a jet sky tour while you're there. The island is beautiful and by water is a great way to take it all in. If you are looking for a quaint little resort with super friendly staff, Kona Kai is the place for you.

Florida Nostalgia

Florida nostalgia without the mildew smell! We stayed in the Dolphin and greatly appreciated the water view and the supper clean room. We’ve been visiting south Florida for 30 years and this place is a great mix of comfort with “years gone by.” If you want a typical hotel experience, go somewhere else. Also, if you want to bicker about a clearly outlined cancellation policy, go somewhere else. If you want personal/on the water, old school Florida, this is it. By example, when we missed our opportunity to take pictures of the sunset, Rick at the front desk sent us some of his professional level photos to remember it by.
