Coimbra Hostels hotel | Places to Stay in Coimbra

April 28, 2023 Toi Mattera

Often overlooked in favor of Porto and Lisbon, Coimbra sits on the banks of the winding Mondego River. After a day spent among the city's medieval architecture and grand university buildings, it's easy to see why Coimbra was Portugal's capital for over a century.

Very nice hostel in an extraordinary building

Reviewed By Bluenog

This is a hostel (as in not a hotel) in an old villa that once was the HQ of the Portuguese Interior Secret Service PIDE, long time ago. The villa is spectacular, the view over the city (from the west) is nice, and the crew is friendly. Don’t expect easy access to Coimbra downtown... this takes about 15 min of walking if you use the elevators in a shopping centers nearby.

I loved the place!

A wonderful building in a very nice area, with a wonderful view. Everything was thought about with the greatest taste! Breakfast was served in the upper floor, with great view and was just excellent. The best was the staff: were all the time in contact before our arrival, to be sure we can get into the place, gave us all the touristic information we needed, and were just lovely. Thanks a lot!

Simple but perfect

Very friendly people. Especially Maria welcomed us like we were part of her family. Simple room, we had the double bed wich was good for the price we've paid. Shared bathroom and kitchen, everything was very clean and neat. Literally in the old city, close to the bars and restaurants.

NS Hostel

The best hostel in Coimbra

Reviewed By ValentinaPM87

I really suggest this hostel. My room was at the 1 floor- 4 bed. The bed are comfortable. The breakfast is delicious: 3 types of cornflakes, sausage and eggs, ham and cheese and butter, biscuits, fruit, coffee and tea and hot-cold milk and cocoa powder, 2 types of bread.... delicious. Only some suggestions: 1. Bathroom in 1 floor: I couldn't close good and someone open it while I was inside. Please check the door. 2. Bathroom -1 floor: if I have to take a shower or is impossible, it is very cold and there is no heating. It is winter... so please add a heating 3. A heating also in the rooms. It is cold. 4. In the room add please a clothes hangers for jackets. Thanks so much for everything. I really enjoyed stay here.

Overall, disaster. Staff was nice but I cannot rate this "hostel" higher. Dirty, incredibly cold, we were warmer outside... I would not recommend and I would not come back. Cheap but I wouldn't stay there for free again.
