Castile and Leon Ranches | Places to Stay in Castile and Leon

April 26, 2023 Roger Rusk

Much of northern Spain belongs to Castile-Leon, an autonomous region surrounded by mountains. Architectural gems like the Romanesque stonework of Segovia's city walls, the Gothic Burgos Cathedral and the dramatic Baroque square in Salamanca are complemented by the area's natural beauty. Parque Natural de las Hoces del Rio Duraton is marked with deep gorges and shelters many birds of prey, while Parque Natural del Lago de Sanabria y alrededores contains the largest glacier lagoon on the Iberian Peninsula.

Quinta de la Concepcion

Relaxed hospitality all the way!

Reviewed By Kahleen C

This is a great choice for a relaxing holiday. The Quinta stands on a hillside high over the river. Wonderfully restful location. It is quite out of the way although readily found. Portugal is literally across the river! The interior is quite quirky internally by way of decoration and the bedrooms are relatively rustic. The pool is a bonus and the adjoining garden area is lovely both to the front and rear of the property. It also has comfortable internal public areas for those who want a quiet read out of the sun. The hosts are exceptionally helpful by way of providing maps, making suggestions for local visits, manning the small bar and providing good food. As well as enjoying the breakfasts, we ate at the Quinta each night of our 3 night stay. The meal is a set meal but we had no difficulty with this at all.The kitchen promotes local produce and dishes and we would thoroughly recommend eating here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A super special & romantic suite

Reviewed By kelseybeckett

We've been to this hotel on January, and it was the best trip of the year. We booked the Romantic suite - which's totally worth the price. There was included a spa experience for both of us. The private spa is SO AMAZING we wanted one for our house! They included a free white wine or champagne bottle for drinking in the spa. It's such an incredible idea! It's located on a very small village near Arribes del Duero, Salamanca. The room is just perfect, rustic, natural & romantic. And we had a private access to the rooftop, which was stunning too. The owners are just so kind and they make you feel like family. Also dogs are allowed, and this is a great point. Definitely, although the suite seems to be too much, it's very cheap with all the things it include and of course it's totally worth the money. The only thing we disliked was the room bath as it was open and that's not a good idea for couples :D We usually read about updates and offers from this place, as we're hoping visit it again very soon!

What a delightful place to stop. I love this little village as well as the atmosphere and electric ambience. I decided I needed my own room and my own space. I can not recommend this wonderful establishment enough. Incredible hospitable host and housekeeper. My room was spotlessly clean, I have a beautiful view and it’s spacious. Lovely bathroom and great furniture. The communal space also looks great however I’m happy to just chill in my room. Bed is very comfortable.

Don't tell everybody...

Reviewed By AGuide

It seems we have stumbled upon a little bit of secret Spain... I randomly picked the Sierra de Gredos as an area to stay for a few days after the cultural overload of Madrid and Salamanca. A place to relax, take it easy and do some gentle walking in the countryside. Looking on-line I came across this little hostal in a quiet village and after looking at several other places decided to email to see if they had the dates we were looking for. Juan Francisco quickly came back to me and said yes they did, what's more he gave me advice on car hire which meant we could stay an extra night. We arrived mid afternoon and everyone was asleep! But Juan surfaced to let us in and went over things about the rooms, meals etc and then sent us off to the parador just up the road where a nice walk through the woods saw us mugged by donkeys! Later we would meet the rest of the family over dinner. And that's how the week went on. The family were always around to laugh and chat to, our poor Spanish just about understood. (Don't worry Juan speaks really good english) The food is simple country fare, very tasty and very filling. If you haven't had enough there always seemed to be more! They went out of their way to produce vegetarian meals for my partner, which were just as tasty as my meat or fish meals. As for relaxing... Juan sent us off everyday on walks (or climbs!) but we forgive him for all the wonderful scenery and the flora and fauna. Beeeaters, Rock Thrushes, Wheatears, Eagles, even blue headed lizards and fighting Ibix.. we could not have asked for more. They get very busy at weekends, but during the week you might even get the place to yourself. If you want a buzzing village with a choice of restaurants and bars, this is possibly not for you, but if you enjoy walking in stunning scenery and want to explore hidden Spain...book now!
