Retiro Park (Parque del Retiro)

Peaceful urban park centered around a beautiful lake.

Reviewed By Matt C - Sacramento, California

We were there on Saturday, March 24. That same day, a child was killed by a falling tree. Instead of roping off the affected area, a small portion of the park --- the officials decided to close the Entire Park for a whole week. (This is Semana Santa, one of the busiest tourist weeks of the season!)
For this reason, I'm giving the park a poor grade.

Segovia Aqueduct

Reviewed By flyjournal - na

I found the aqueduct impressive & well preserved. Also found the secluded nun convent a little further away from the summit of the aqueduct, the door to the convent was closed and decided not to ring the bell as I was not sure whether they had any baked goods for sale as based on the previous reviews. However, the town of Segovia was way too touristy, too many shops, its like walking down a major shopping mall. I was hoping to visit another royal palace about 7 km away from Segovia called La Granja de San Ildefonso but the bus station employees of La Sepulvedana at Segovia were very unfriendly & grouchy. They were not able to confirm with me whether the buses were to leave for the palace based on the timetables found on their website and simply said ask the drivers?!!! Whereby none was available. So my planned trip to La Graja de San Ildefonso did not materialize. So as a heads up to travelers who wish to make the trip relying on bus company, La Sepulvedana, may I suggest that if you are traveling solo hook up with others online to see whether you can arranges shared private transport with them. And when you are at La Graja combine your trip there to the milk glass factory, Royal Glass Factory of La Granja. Because Segovia by itself is very small & compact and you can finish it within 2 hours.

This has to be one of the most beautiful locations in the world. However unlike many historic centres, it is buzzing with life. Clearly it is as popular with the locals as well as many visitors from all over the world. Also, unlike many other famous locations, prices everywhere are very reasonable with efficient and cheerful service. Everybody in the world should go there at least once.

Museo Nacional de Escultura

The National Museum of Sculpture is one of the most important European museums on this discipline because of the quality of its collection, ranging from the Middle Ages to the Baroque, with a predominance of polychrome wood works: Alonso Berruguete, Juan de Juni, Gregorio Fernández, Mena, Martínez Montañés, Alonso Cano, etc. The 19th century, is represented by the plaster cast collection coming from the old National Museum of Artistic Reproductions. The historic value of the four buildings which make up the museum along the street reinforces the worthy character of the visit. The main building, Saint Gregory´s College, is one of the most singular examples of the architecture in the 15th century, next to the Palace of the Marquis de Villena, the House of the Sun and the church of St. Benedict the Elder.

Reviewed By BennyMalaga - Malaga, Spain

The Museo Nacional de Escultura is probably the best sculpture museum in Spain. There are three buildings that one can see. One of them has a very collection of belen Napolitanos, with 183 figures. I also enjoyed the copies of Roman and Greek statues in one of the buildings.
