On advice of the guests we were staying at in Gais, we booked a table in that charming place. Good choice, indeed ! Everything was perfect : all the meals were original and beautifully presented, the meat was incredibly soft, juicy and tasty, service was very attentive. Very good Italian wine (Amarone della Valpolicella, Lavarini)Only a tiny disappointment : the paintings on the wall were miserable....

Went to this bistro for dinner on a Monday night, when many of the other restaurants in the area were closed. The service was excellent and staff were attentive. The food was quite good and well presented. Nice atmosphere, located in the old town area, a couple blocks from the abbey cathedral. Prices a bit higher than expected, a bit fancier than other bistros, more of a fine restaurant. There was a special event of some type going on in the adjacent bar, so we were treated to some excellent piano music, courtesy of the guest pianist. I eat here at least twice a year and am never disappointed. The ambience is elegant but not stuffy, the atmosphere very friendly, and the food always scrumptious. In the autumn their game menu is unsurpassed. My husband and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary there, precisely because of the restaurant's intimate elegance. We both had venison, accompanied by many delicious vegetables. I had the Rehschnitzel "Waldfee" and my husband the venison entrecote. For an appetizer we both had the trio of Mostbröckli (Appenzeller cured beef), pumpkin soup, and paté with preiselbeeren sauce. We chose a Portuguese wine called Meruge, which we loved. A memorable dinner indeed!

I felt very lucky to have found this place. The cosy atmosphere created by the low, slanted roof, the heavy wooden furniture, old stove, dimmed lights and white tablecloths was just what I wanted on a dark September evening. And the home-made, buttery rösti with the delicious veal sausage (a local speciality) in dark gravy & onion sauce were cooked to perfection. Service was attentive, and even though I dined solo, I never felt awkward. Oh, and the prices for such a quality meal in Switzerland were totally reasonable - would definitely return!
