Pastis continues to be one of my favorite French restaurants in the area. The atmosphere is relaxed and homey and the food is soooo good. The mussels are still great as are the french fries that accompany them. Yum, yum.We had gone to California Street to eat a different restaurant but when we saw the long line, we automatically decided to eat at Pastis. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait long.

Zola French Restaurant

Zola is one of Palo Alto's best restaurants. French bistro classics served up perfectly prepared. The steak tartare was spectacular equaling the meal I recently enjoyed at Thomas Keller's. Service is outstanding. One tip, avoid sitting at the high table with bar stools. It works OK for a drink or a snack but is positively horrid for a 2-hour dinner and you'll leave with a sore back.

Cafe Brioche

My friend took me here for my birthday. Set on a block filled with restaurants, neither of us had been here before. We were both blown away. The food was outstanding. I had the 'Salade Provencale' (salmon salad). I expected a few small slices of salmon, so was quite surprised to have it topped with an entire salmon filet. It was wonderfully seasoned and easily broke apart so it could be mixed with the greens. The service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely return!

I usually get two of my favorite French items: Steak tartare, prepared at the table in the classic way; Ile Fondant, like my mother made. Yum.

Baume

Reviewed By MarsPhD

Because this restaurant had two-Michelin stars, my family and I decided to try it out. Although we have eaten in several restaurants with at least two Michelin stars, we were very shocked with the exorbitant price ($280/person; with the cheapest wine pairing, approximately $500/person total). Commis charges $119/person, Atelier Crenn $220/person, The Restaurant at Meadowood $225/person, Benu $248/person, etc... So we expected not only excellent food but exemplary service as well. The courses were innovative and delicious (although all the other restaurants I mentioned earlier still had better courses). But while the wife/owner was a very accommodating server (and would fit well in a mom-and-pop restaurant), she was not professionally trained and could not even correctly pronounce the names of several dishes. Given that Baume charges NYC prices, one would expect professionally-trained staff to do the serving. So although we live nearby, we will not visit Baume again but will instead drive all the way to Meadowood for a well-priced, creative, and delicious meal with excellent service. To the owners: please include menu prices in your website so that diners know what to expect!
