There are many good restaurants in the Basel area, but this was the best one I visited during my week-long stay. The Wirtshaus zum Schlüssel is a lovely place to dine in Muttenz, on the outskirts of Basel. The food was amazing and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting. Every dish was prepared just right with the utmost care from high quality ingredients. The prices are very reasonable. We had the fake/false snails (falschi Schnägge ... actually beef cubes baked with herb butter) on recommendation of the house and we were NOT disappointed! The Wienerschnitzel also looked delicious. My colleague said he was going to go home and dream about the food, it was so good. If you're staying at Hotel Baslertor, it's a ~10 minute stroll down a nice street in Muttenz. Give the Schlüssel a try. You won't regret it!

Essen, trinken, Minigolf spielen, einfach geniessen . Eat, trink, play Minigolf ... be happy ... that's easy ...
Who would expect to find such a beauty along this ordinary street...I have been to this place since its opening in April 2015 for coffee breaks, lunches and dinners... Bruno Mürner and his team have changed this place from night into glowing day. The cuisine is very creative, regional, and you can taste that every dish is prepared with love. The staff is very friendly and adds to the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant which always gives me a home-like feeling. Thinking of the garden, even I become speechless: nature at its best! Bruno: Congratulations! You have indeed brought the garden into the restaurant and thus, this place has become one of my favorites, not only during summer but also on a rainy, cold day!

This small family owned neighborhood restaurant is very informal with a typical German menu. Friends, family and a group of football players were enjoying themselves over food or a beer. The food was good and the service was excellent. The very friendly waitress was one of the owners.

A group of four went here for lunch. The food was excellant and since the weather was good we sat outside. Two wheel chairs and lots of laughing. Many other people were here for lunch too. Service was top.

Christmas Day! There were no festive decorations to be found inside the restaurant. No holiday atmosphere. Limited items on the menu. We ate in the gourmet part of the restaurant. Since there was only 2 appetizers on the menu which did not appeal to me, I ordered a mixed salad. Nice presentation and good dressing. Than all 3 of us had the goose breast for the main course. The temperature of the breast was cooked to perfection however it was sliced wrong (with the grain) and you couldn't cut it with a sharp knife. An old piece of chewing gum would have been more tender. It was served the braised red cabbage and some fine grain dumplings. The dumplings were bland. I tried just a very small bit of those item on my plate and did not eat any further. The food was presented well and so were the plates that passed by out tables. We told the service personal right away. They offered to put the meat back in the pan and cook it again. I know as a chef the is not a solution. One of my guests ate dessert (which was offered by the restaurant). The service was professional and attentive. Bathroom were very clean.

We have eaten at this wonderful restaurant many times- it's also our go-to place for family birthdays because of the warm reception (Ms Marugg-Suter is the nicest and most welcoming hostess you can imagine) and because of the fabulous food. No menu required: You will be served a fantastic five to six course meal prepared fresh by Mr Suter and his crew every evening- so sit back, relax and enjoy every bite. Vegetarians and allergies are accommodated.

We are so pleased that the Predigerhof re-opened as we are often walking there. The location is very beautiful, you can sit outside to enjoy the sun and the peace of the landscape. We are also fairly happy with the new chefs and staff. Most of the dishes we have tried were quite good, all made with fresh ingredients from farmers around the restaurant. Overall, however,- we find the portions too big. - we were also disappointed about the quality of the meat on one occasion. - prices are very high. - the restaurant would be so much nicer with white table cloths and descent cuttlery.

We went to this trendy restaurant..because we follow the comments...even if the restaurant is not in the center. It offers all for a talented..and this cook definitely is, to be THE place for all the rather also trendy ,young with a bit of money people. - You cross the street and enter passing all the costy bikes and the beautiful garden..and enter in a dark restaurant where you are seated hopefully next to another group of successful people enjoying loudly. We were lucky to be so far away but this had the opposite effect that they forget you. Waitresses are nice..very informal..they talk to the people they seem to know...but they are SLOW..inefficient and to WAIT (it is an expensive place) for bread..20 minutes..for the dish (excellent fish BUT NOTHING WITH IT)..another 20 minutes..and another 20 for the smallest dessert we have ever eaten! My partner got a stiff neck from turning to the waiter to get the bill. But we could see that the locals...liked it..and they seem to have all eaten before because we left hungry but the bill was as quite expensive for what you get.To summ up:This owner responds to a specific client who would not go a normal restaurant...The plates are hand made...the fish comes from a happy fish and so does the meat come from a happy animal. the wine comes from hand picked owners..and you feel so good!but if you search for a place after a hard day and want to EAT and feel welcome..you might be disappointed.

The witches decoration and the candlelit tables together make for a very attractive atmosphere. It was not easy to read the menu in the darkened restaurant but the food was excellent. The pumpkin soup was excellent and the skewered meat selection a great choice. Hope to return soon again.
