We're new to the area and our neighbors told us they buy their meat at Max's. We went in to check them out and the wonderful smells had us hungry immediately. They have frozen, pre-made entrees; deli meats and cheeses; deli salads; and pre-smoked meats ready to bake, broil, or grill. We bought a rack of pre-smoked ribs and prepared them as the lady at the counter suggested. The meat literally fell off the bone! Very tasty! The twice-baked potato salad was nothing we'd had before, but really good. We also bought round steak to do a crock-pot meal we like and even though round steak can be tough, it was also very tender. Now that we have a freezer, we will be back to try more of Max's offerings.

Normally my favorite steakhouse, Longhorn has been letting me down lately. This time, it started when we were seated. The area smelled bad (sort of like raw meat in a butcher shop) and it was really stuffy (noticeably different from the waiting area). My steak came undercooked, and then I realized that the waitress didn't ask me how I wanted it done. She also had a really hard time getting our bill straight (it wasn't difficult - just two checks for five people). We eventually just gave up and one group paid the other the difference. The good stuff? My salad (blue cheese romaine wedge) was good, my steak was good (after they took it back), and my drink (Tito's Texas Tea) was good. Oh yeah, sorry, forgot one more thing... They gave me a new baked potato when my steak returned. I know they thought they were being nice, but I know they just tossed my old potato. I hate wasting food, so this to me was not good service. If I had known they were going to do that, I would have removed it before handing them the plate. So, overall, not huge problems, but not a great experience either.

Took us approximately 15 minutes to see our first server and then another 25 minutes to get a couple hamburgers. The drinks we ordered when we first saw server were not delivered until after the food finally got there. The restaurant was not busy with maybe 12 guests including us. The staff was unfriendly and too busy chatting with one another to serve the dining area.

Sadly, while I love Steak n Shake food, this location has very spotty service. If you go for lunch during the week, you'll probably be fine. But if you try to go for dinner, beware. They don't greet you at the door in a timely manner or provide quick service. The food is usually fine, what's you'd expect at a Steak n Shake but good service you will likely not enjoy.
