We’ve heard lots of good things about this relatively new local pizza (and more...) restaurant. We’ve consistently heard “good food but uneven service”. I must say that clearly the off-season has mitigated the service issues and the food is excellent. And you can’t beat the price. My wife and I stopped in on a Tuesday night. The place was about 1/3 full. Katie the waitress was relatively new but very friendly and accommodating. She was honest. When we asked “what’s good and popular”, she explained she was new and hadn’t tried everything on the menu yet...we decided to split a Caesar salad and we split an entree, Polo di Mino. The salad was very large and easily satisfied the two of us. The dressing was excellent...tangy and hint of lemon. My only complaint was that the salad could have used a little less dressing. The salad was served with warm homemade rolls. They reminded us of Bertucci’s rolls made with pizza dough. Irresistibly delicious! They are served with those commercial butter packs....a small dipping bowl of olive oil would have been a welcome and nicer alternative...The meal arrived pre split. This is a very nice move that too few kitchens offer. The split portions were plenty adequate...after salad and rolls especially! The chicken dish was very flavorful...chicken cutlets pounded and dredged in seasoned flour, sautéed and finished was a delicate lemon wine sauce with artichoke hearts, mushrooms and a touch of tomato. Excellent flavor, moist and not overly spiced with garlic or onion (a mistake many pseudo Italian restaurants make...). We enjoyed our meal with a couple of very generous glasses of Chilean Pinot. All in all a great meal for two for slightly more than $40. Can’t be beat. If I have any complaints it’s the fact that the place needs to take itself more seriously, despite the facility (formerly a gas station and quick mart) and location. It’s not nouveau gourmet. But with a few touches it could raise its game beyond just a pizza place with good dinners. For example, the TV near the bar was set to “Wheel of Fortune”. No one was watching it, the sound was on ( annoying) and it’s not separated from the dining room. Either turn the TV off or set it to that burning Yule log with music. Anything but the game show. Also, the waitress was great, but we sat at a table set for 4and the other 2 place settings were never removed. And we had to remind the waitress the turn down the lights. It was way too bright when we entered and the lights ARE on a dimmer. Someone needs to be attending to the little things. It will make a big difference. One last peeve...the picture of the dining room on the website is a generic restaurant...looks so warm and homey. It’s unfortunately not what you find when you walk in. Again someone needs to focus on the little things. But remember, the food is great and for the price it’s a bargain. We will be back. Appreciate this feedback greatly!

Family pizza is a gem. Most pizza restaurants do well with the basics: Cheese, meatball, and pepperoni pizzas. Family Pizza delivers high quality pizzas in each of these basic areas. No other pizza restaurant, in my experience, offers the combination of spinach, feta, tomatoes and spices -- called the Athenian Pizza -- that you'll find at Family Pizza. Add to this distinctive array of pies, outstanding, truly family-oriented service.

Castello Of Niantic

After waiting for a couple of minutes for a hostess, a waitress (or bar tender?) advised we could sit anywhere we pleased. We then waited for several more minutes while the table that came in after us was served. First impressions? It counts! We eventually ordered and found the food to be tasty. We spit a traditional bruschetta app (small toasted pieces of what appeared to be a baguette with a dab of chopped tomatoes and onions and a mix of light colored beans beans. My main course was Lasagna made with Italian sausage and coated with a gallon or so of heavy tomato "gravy". A bit much, but simply a personal preference. My wife ordered the braised short ribs that were served in a soup plate nestled with mashed potatoes and some asparagus shots. Nice option. No time for dessert.

Great dough, not too salty, just perfect for serving to whole family as a relatively guilt free meal.A note on the sheet pizza - give them 24 hours notice to make up the dough.

Our stop for lunch at Illiano’s Grill in East Lyme was a delicious surprise. The temperature was 90+ degrees outside, but our salads were crisp, fresh & nicely presented. A couple of slices of meatball pizza were delivered to our table as soon as we sat down as a welcoming appetizer. A smiling waitress brought our orders with a cheerful demeanor and a genuine smile. We both enjoyed our meals and would recommend Illiano’s Grill to other road-weary travelers.

il Pomod'Oro Restaurant & Pizzeria

Located in East Lyme amidst one of the most picturesque areas of Southern Connecticut and the Mystic region, il Pomod’Oro Restaurant & Pizzeria beckons Italian food aficionados with an intoxicating selection of dishes sure to tantalize everyone’s appetite

When people speak about dining out at an Italian Restaurant they rarely experience dining as if they were in Italy. The American influence has changed the Italian restauranteur to cater to the American palate instead of staying true to the Italian culture. Il Pomod'Oro does not waiver in the style that their heritage and customs have been instilled by the owner, Petrit. Their chef, Bruno, has brought his Italian culinary training to America for the first time in Il Pomod'Oro. They don't believe in sacrificing quality, their integrity is paramount to Italian country cuisine. It separates them from any other restaurant in Connecticut. Not one other dining establishment does what they do, the sacrifice is to great. The customer at Il Pomod'Oro is paramount. The staff is sworn to a dining experience like no other, this is the difference. They always make me feel that I am the most important guest in the house. There attention to detail is a benchmark in the industry. Wine Selection, food pairing, cleanliness, from outside to inside they are unrivaled. The menu creativity is what places this restaurant completely apart from a so-called competitor. If your not dining at IL Pomod'Oro once a week or twice a week you are missing the taste of True Italian Cuisine, I mean organic, farm fresh quality that is never compromised, never. Take a drive to East Lyme, settle in to the Italian way of life that one experiences in Europe. Bellissimo Il Pomod'Oro, Bellissimo!
