I love Taco Bell, seriously. A few supreme tacos with some mild sauce - nothing better. I'm pretty sure this Taco Bell does not meet health codes in Virginia. It always seems dirty, and the staff seem kind of dirty too (particularly the late night staff). Other Taco Bells are way better than this one.

Chipotle Mexican Grill

This location is downtown, directly across from the main entrance to campus. The picture here is wrong. Any reviews that mention Prices Fork are also wrong.I like to stop at Chipotle when I travel as they are typically very consistent and their service is usually very good. We're talking $8 burritos, made as you wait so it's essentially fast food. We ordered from here online. We had to wait an extra 10 minutes past the time it was to be ready. That's the reason for the lower rating. The burrito itself was fine and my son's was teaming with food so he was very happy.I will just add that there is extremely limited parking at this location. It's best to walk here from campus. It's not a long walk (depending on where you are).

Very similar to Chipotle: made to order very large burritos and bowls. Cheaper prices but not as transparent on ingredient sourcing and quality. Spacious atmosphere. My kids like the self serve touch screen drink machine. Nice salsa bar. There's often a lot of non-customer traffic in the back of the store. Rear door access to restrooms makes this a very popular downtown pit stop

El Rodeo

We stopped in to El Rodeo during a visit with our son at VT, and frankly, were not impressed. The food was mediocre, the ambiance was rather basic, and annoyingly, the waiter "auctioned off" the dinners when we brought them to the table, loudly announcing each entree and waiting for someone to claim them. The grilled chicken was dry and tough, and the fajitas were way overcooked. Is there a better choice for good Mexican food in Blacksburg? I hope so!

Upon sitting down, I ordered a sangria....presentation was completely lacking! Poured from a larger bottle with no ice nor fruit slice....nothing! When I lifted the glass, I could see it was dirty! Really, really dirty....not just dishwasher stains.....pretty gross. Had a small burrito and quesadilla and both were not even lukewarm. I’m sure the dirty sine glass had my guard up but it was just not a good night! I did have a Coors Light that was good & cold & I didn’t have to worry about a glass! While this is NOT the restaurant’s fault, I had the most obnoxious Virginia Tech students beside me and they thought it was cute to constantly try to “out-burp” their friends....a couple of them probably brought up chunks! Disgusting!

I know my opinion will be unpopular, I can see how many positive reviews there are & that’s what made us visit. My daughter is a senior at Tech & I figured we should give it a try. I cannot believe the SALTINESS of the food! It was unreal. Neither of us could finish our meal due to the saltiness. It started with the complimentary chips which actually had salt crusted on them like a churro has sugar. The salsa/pico de gallo was nice, very fresh and was not overly salty. We ordered the queso and it was not queso blanco it appeared (& tasted) like cheez wiz, also insanely salty. For our entrees my daughter had the white fish tacos with a side of beans & I ordered the carne asada burrito with avocado pasta salad. Her beans were inedible due to the saltiness, as was my burrito. I ate half and my daughter took the other half for a friend who’ll eat anything. The avocado pasta salad was very refreshing (& not salty!!). Our server was extremely polite and prompt given how busy it was, definitely no complaint there. Just flabbergasted at how our food was so inedible compared to the reviews of other patrons. If you have high blood pressure or watch your sodium intake for medical reasons, just beware. So sorry you found your food to salty. That is not something we hear often, so I will be sure to look into it. If you give us another try, please inform your server of this experience. The kitchen prepares all entrees to order and can be sure not to over season any of your food. Hope to see you again. Thanks,Gary
