Havenât been to the Parkside in years and now all Iâm thinking about is going back! Service was unhurried, well-informed, and impeccable. Everything from our appetizers and salad to entrees and drinks were outstanding. Best filet Iâve had in 10 years! Iâll be sure to visit again soon. But Chez Pascal has it all: Lovely decor, an intimate, sophisticated atmosphere, professional and welcoming staff, and unbelievably good food. I can't count the number of wonderful meals I have had in this restaurant over the years. The friendly staff and bartenders, making new friends at the bar, relaxing times with great food and an amazing menu and specials is now is almost a completely different operation - new owners or chef maybe? The last few times we've had dinner here, I was somewhat disappointed - but last night was the absolute limit. Lobster bisque tasted like cold thick clam chowder that someone added catsup to. My old favorite standby the Bravo salad is now an overdressed lump of uninspired mixed greens that look like they came from a salad bar at Stop and Shop, and a quartered unripe tomato. The fried goat cheese medallion looked and tasted like it was made days before and stored in the refrigerator. The small piece of unseasoned salmon I had was overcooked, watery and had bones in it. The muscles were overcooked and the broth flavorless - this used to be a favorite dish of ours that we looked forward to for days before we had them - neither of us finished our meals. The service was great as usual at least. And what is this trend with restaurants reserving the bar? And why did you get rid of the brilliant salad nicoise and frisee salads? Change can be good, but not if you replace things on the menu with inferior items. It's like saying goodbye to an old friend.

We stopped at the Pot au Feu during Providence's Restaurant Week and enjoyed our wonderful 3 course meals for just $35pp. Pot au Feu is located in a neat rustic stone basement setting. We did not have reservations but were accommodated at the bar with a nice linen napkin place setting. Despite it being a French restaurant, I had a Pilz Urquel pilsner beer. Yes, the original is still the best. Linda, the barmaid, and our waitress were friendly and attentive. Our first courses were wild mushroom soup and a 3 pate (fish, chicken liver, and mushroom) platter. Both were excellent. Our entrees were bouillabaisse and sweet potato crusted haddock with fried wedges of potato and sweet potato served with dill sour cream dip, and vegetables. Everything was superb. Dessert included a 3 petite plate of creme brulee, yogurt parfait with citrous and berries, and a thick chocolate mouse. Again, everything was excellent. Highly recommend.
