Red Bridge Tavern

Reviewed By Smit-tee

Saturday evening (08-11-18) my colleague and I wanted a nice place to have dinner and drinks. My colleague enthusiastically suggested the Red Bridge Tavern. She said she had not been there in a few years but used to frequent this establishment and the food, drink and service here was always good and with that we set course to the Red Bridge Tavern. We entered the Tavern at about 7:30PM and were immediately politely greeted by the host who offered us our choice of being seated at a Topper or a regular table. We chose the latter and were escorted to our table. The host graciously told us he would seat us at another table if we were not happy where we were. He provided us menus, told our waitress would be with us soon and he returned to his post to seat other patrons. We were very impressed and pleased with his pleasant and professional demeanor. We felt welcome and appreciated after this brief interaction. An excellent first impression was made by this Red Bridge Tavern host! Sorry I do not know his name. The décor is basic and rustic. There are 3 seating sections as well a full-service bar. A few TVs are mounted on the walls and can be viewed from your table…depending on where you are seated. The dining area where we were seated was dimly lit but appeared clean.FAIL: The dining section where we were seated was poorly lit. We had to use the flashlight on our phones to read the menu. Perhaps a battery-operated candle on the tables would supplement the inadequate lighting of the ceiling fixtures. Two dining room sections and the bar appeared to be moderately busy, however, the third seating section in the back of the restaurant was not in use. After a short time, a waitress came to our table, politely introduced herself as Kaitlin. She saw we were attempting to read our menus and offered to take our drink order. We both ordered Ketel One on the rocks, one with a lime and one without. Our drinks arrived, the pour was very good, but a lime was missing. Under most circumstances a missing lime would not be mentioned in my review, but this review will be an exception. When Kaitlin returned to check on us we told her about the lime and she returned with two slices of lime.FAIL: Did Kaitlin forget to provide the bartender with the proper order? Did Kaitlin check the order when she picked it up from the bar? I understand there are a couple of reasons why this could happen, but as a customer I should not have to worry about “why”.We finally finished reviewing the menu and ordered our appetizers, Steamers and a Stuffie. Kaitlin brought our appetizers to us in a very reasonable amount of time and our Stuffie and Steamers were very good. And then we did not see Kaitlin for an extended period of time. We had finished all our Steamers and waited…and waited. We were ready to order our entrees and waited. I got up to go to the restroom and saw Kaitlin. I told her we were ready [to order]. She took my statement to mean we were ready for our check. That was my fault for not being specific.I completed my mission, washed my hands, (in case you were wondering) and returned to the table. Kaitlin promptly returned when I sat down. I asked her if she was busy and she replied yes, she had a couple large parties.FAIL: I think I am reasonable and I understand restaurants get busy and the servers can suddenly find themselves in the weeds. The FAIL here is Kaitlin’s lack of communication with us. Had she stopped by our table and explained a large group of diners had arrived that required her attention we would have felt empathy for her. She was working hard. Since we did not know the reason for her sudden disappearance, we felt neglected. I personally wondered if I was being mistreated / not receiving proper service because I did not look like the rest of the diners in this restaurant. Now, knowing the facts, I do not believe that was the case but sitting watching other tables around us being attended to by several other waitresses caused me to wonder. Maybe one of Kaitlin’s co-workers could have explained Kaitlin’s absence to us. Maybe one of Kaitlin’s co-workers could have picked up our table. The 5-Ps should have been used here: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.Kaitlin took our order, writing it down on a small note pad. Buffalo Tenders, a Tuna Melt with Cheddar Cheese and a Chicken Pesto wrap. FAIL: The Buffalo Tenders were served without the Blue Cheese dip despite this being listed on the menu as part of this dish. The Tuna Melt was served with Swiss Cheese instead of Cheddar as requested. The pesto in the Chicken Pesto wrap was almost nonexistent. Once again, was the order sent to the kitchen with mistakes? I don’t think so because I watched Kaitlin write the order down. Our itemized bill reflected the specifics of the order as we told Kaitlin. Is the kitchen staff inept? I don’t think so because fundamentally the food seemed to be prepared well. Does someone on the Kitchen staff have an issue with Kaitlin? Is someone on the staff deliberately sabotaging her orders so her customers will be unhappy with her. Does Kaitlin scan her plates for completeness prior to leaving the kitchen? The cup of Blue Cheese dressing missing from the Tenders should have been obvious to the moderately trained eye. Was Kaitlin flustered because she was in the weeds with large groups and did not have enough help? I don’t know the answers to these questions and frankly, as a customer, I should not have to ponder these questions about why customer service was not on point. This could have been a stellar dining experience if not for the multiple points of failure. I am from out of town, so I don’t know when the Red Bridge Tavern will have the opportunity get a second chance with me. As a last note, I had to ask Kaitlin to provide me with the itemized copy of my receipt. Everywhere I dine these days I am automatically provided with the itemized receipt. In fact, she presented this document when she requested payment. Upon returning with the credit card receipt to be signed, she kept the itemized receipt. Why? Is it my imagination or is this boarder line shady? All these system failures and questions did not make this a pleasant experience.

Luxe Burger Bar

Dined here on the Pride Parade evening. Reservations were for 7 PM and we were promptly seated. The one issue I had immediately was that the hostess sat us at a table for Four and added one seat at the end. It made things pretty tight and uncomfortable. When I inquired about a bigger table/booth, she said they had some big party reservations coming in and couldn't accommodate. There was plenty of outdoor seating, but it was our first time and I didn't think to ask(and it was not offered). By the time we were leaving, inside the joint was like a ghost town. I found this pretty annoying because the hostess could have put us somewhere more comfortable. I can only speculate they were expecting a flood of people after the Pride Parade, but that would not have been until 9(parade was at 8), i.e. there was absolutely no reason not to sit us somewhere more comfortable or offer outdoor seating. Oh well, the rest of the evening made up for the annoyance. Service was great and burgers were awesome. Everything was priced moderately. Sangrias were good and they offered some decent beer options. We did have a hit or miss experience on the appies. Onion rings were delicious, but the fried calamari we received was horrendous. Overcooked and salty. It went untouched by all five people. Guess we should have gone with a traditional pub appie like the nachos. Despite the seating annoyance and the terrible calamari, the place is worth a visit. Burgers are the main attraction after all, and they lived up to the Trip Advisor hype. Waitress was wonderful and returned quite often to check on us.

Gregg's Restaurants

Reviewed By cyberbubba

I started my long relationship with Gregg's [East Providence] when some friends introduced me this special culinary mix of home cooking and HUGE menu with some seriously good regional dishes of all origins. There's four different locations for Gregg's, Providence, East Providence, Warwick and North Kingstown but my favorite is E. Prov. and I've been going here for over 30 years. Now that I have moved away I really look forward to visiting here as soon as I roll back into town and usually make it my first stop before I get to my final destination. There's plenty of parking and the restaurant is always clean, warm and comfortable. I have always had great service and with the few exception of minor hiccups, like running out of one of my favorite dishes, I have never left this place not completely satisfied. The complimentary warm rolls and fresh pickled cucumbers are always a great way to fire up your tastebuds, really good stuff. You can get started with any one of there soups like chicken noodle [really fresh w/ big chunks of chicken], the baked French onion soup, the chili with cheese & onions or a very good version of New England clam chowder. Be warned though with the pickles and rolls that the portions here are notoriously big and some are big enough to share. Moving on to the really big menu there's over a dozen appetizers including several different kinds of chicken, plus my favorites, stuffed quahogs [big clams], fried calamari and spinach dip that comes with chips & salsa. Then there's over a dozen salads including the usual suspects plus the Tuscan which is a grilled giant portobella mushroom sliced over garden greens with roasted red peppers, feta, tomatoes, cucumbers & black olives and my favorite the Chinese chicken salad which is chopped greens topped with crispy chicken breast, Mandarin oranges & toasted almonds with crispy wonton noodles & scallions with a very tasty sesame Mandarin dressing. There's a huge selection of sandwiches, over a dozen regular sandwiches, with my favorite lobster roll, another dozen plus clubs and several roll up plus you can custom build your own AND that doesn't even count the burgers, seriously! I'm going to run out of room for this review but there are nearly 3 dozen entrees that cover chicken, beef & seafood with pasta and steaks with fish tacos & a turkey dinner but I The French meat pie is some of the very best I've ever had, including my own , it has an excellent flaky crust with a very balanced meat filling topped with a brown gravy that brings it all together perfectly. It it one of those regionsl dishes that make dining here more unique than the average restaurant and it always stirs up fond memories of the first time I had this dish and all the different places that I've enjoyed it throughout the years. Finally my other fav is the chicken pot pie which is chinky white chicken meat with fresh garden veggies & nicely baked with a flaky and buttery crust & it comes with cup of soup or salad. It's big & filling. They're famous for their gugantic slices of delicious apple pie, and their huge pieces of chocolate cake but my absolute favorite is their truly amazing eclairs. They are the best anywhere and I think each one weighs over a pound! Their eclair is like a big ol' puffy flavorful hunk of goodness packed with a perfect custard that totally melts in your mouth, it's a very special piece of pastry love! Bottom line: I could say a lot more but, this is a great place to eat with something for everyone including some specialty dietary items & big kids menu. Just try it, you'll be glad you did!!

We decided to try this location after eating at the other one a few weeks ago. We ate steamers, and a lobster roll. Both were very good, and the roll had no fillers outside of lettuce. It was all claws and knuckles. Our server Lexi was very good. One thing bad. We were sitting in a booth in a corner of the restaurant. It's the corner nearest the 2 HP spaces, facing the street. The wall behind it was splattered with something, I don't know what it is, but it is GROSS! Please clean the wall! Recommended but don't sit at that booth.
