Best American food near Springfield, Illinois, United States

Find out what American restaurants to try in Springfield. The spirit of the "Land of Lincoln" is nowhere else so alive as it is in Springfield, one time home to old Honest Abe himself and present home of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices State Historic Site, the Old State Capitol State Historic Site, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site. The NAACP also holds Springfield at its roots, having formed after a particularly bloody race riot here in 1908.

The restaurant is a nice old house; neat decor. However, it was COLD and noisy.Service was the highlight, with our server being attentive and prompt Salad was meager. The cod was ok, not great. Au gratin potatoes were tasty. Portions seemed less than averageOverall, a nice place, but not high on my list.

A simple and delicious meal for two ran us about $200, including tip. Cocktails are $16 each...and your not even in Chicago! We enjoyed a soup, a salad, 2 entrees, a shared side and a shared dessert. Everything was delicious. Lobster bisque was rich and full of flavor, although there were no lobster bits...creamy only. Flight of filets was as great as at previous meals here. Chocolate cake with a miniature white Russian on the side was fresh and strongly chocolate flavored. The only disappointments were that it took nearly 1/2 hr to get the first cocktail, and that the bread was cold and a bit dried out.A parking voucher was provided for the parking garage attached to the Wyndham Springfield City Center (formerly Hilton).Since the legislature is currently in session, the restaurant was busy. Reservations are highly suggested.

Last time we ate here we sat outside so this time we reserved a table inside. We found the dining room charming. The only disappointment, and the reason for a four-rating, is that some booths are taped up with duct tape. Perhaps new booths are on order, but it was rather unsightly to be lead through the beautiful dining room to a booth with duct tape slathered all over it. Besides that, service was impeccable, from bread person to waitress. They understand cocktail time and the need to unwind. Timing was perfect. We ordered a beef Wellington and the pork chop, in addition to a delightful appetizer of stacked eggplant slices. Even though we took half our meals home, we couldn't pass up the bread pudding. The portion was really enough for four, but we did our best to devour the delicious treat. People were dressed from casual (baseball cap, t-shirt and shorts) to dressy (women in dresses and skirts, and men in collared shirts and khakis) If you are in Springfield, definitely dine here. We will return.

I ordered the day's soup and sandwich which were both delicious. My friend ordered a chicken ceasar salad which was huge and looked very good. This brewery and restaurant were a pleasant surprise. I enjoy IPA’s and they had a hoppy, yet not bitter one. Had the Cajun shrimp and andouille sausage with cornbread, which was fantastic. Normally I would shy away from this type of food in Central Illinois however there was a tasty reward. Several colleagues tried the Horseshoe and they went away stuffed to the gills. Definitely recommend for the beer and the food.

D'arcy's Pint

We visited D'Arcy's Pint on recommendation of friends who had enjoyed a few meals there. The horseshoe was the main reason for visiting, as Springfield Illinois is the home of the original horseshoe. Open-Faced sandwich with some type meat (hamburger, chicken, beef, pork or anything else) with Fries and cheese sauce over the top. My wife really enjoyed her horseshoe and I opted for a Irish beef pot roast sandwich with fries. I also tried the Irish mashed potatoes shaped with a crater in the middle where some melted cheese and cheese sauce awaited my taste buds. I really enjoyed my meal as well. Service was great and the food arrived a lot faster than we thought it would as we arrived at 3:00pm on aa Saturday and the place was packed like it was dinner time. If you are in the Springfield area looking for somewhere to eat, avoid the chain restaurants and drop by D'Arcy's Pint for one of those delicious horseshoes.

As the title says it is well worth the effort to go, but it is not that easy to find, unless you use your GPS. But, once there, you will be happy you went. The microbrew wheat beer was very good. The menu is diverse, but not overwhelming. There are regional favorites offered, such as the Horseshoe (hamburger on bread slice, covered in french fries, and smothered in a cheese sauce) - it was great. I highly recommend Engrained.Thank you for the review! I am glad you enjoyed your visit. My apologies on the street navigation challenges, the city had a "unique" vision for the roads here! One hint for the GPS is make sure you put in the "West" part of 1120 W Lincholnshire and the 62711 zip code as well.

Easy drive from downtown Springfield. Ample parking. It is a medium sized oddly shaped Quonset type metal hut in an industrial lot. However, when you open the doors and go inside - you are in a 50's type diner. Very cool! All one big room of booths and tables with a counter. Movie, tv and route 66 items on the walls, like the Three Stooges. My husband had eggs over easy with sausage and enjoyed it. I ordered one pancake knowing they were to be big and it was. It filled the whole dinner plate. However, it was not hot so had to send it back for reheat. The taste was good but I've had better tasting pancakes. Prices are very reasonable for the quantity. Our service was great - prompt and with a smile. Overall, I loved the decor and friendly service even though the taste of the food itself was average. This is still a must see for the area and route 66 fans.

Every morning we walked downtown Springfield to this place to order their oatmeal - yes, it is that good! Fresh and hot with some sort of steamed milk. We elected every topping option they had: apricots, nuts, etc. On the side I had a banana. If you aren't into oatmeal, lots of other good options. Prices are reasonable. You can sit inside or outside on the sidewalk. We sat outside to people watch as the mornings were beautiful. A number of people drove up to pick up their breakfasts even. This must be a popular place. We found out about it from the valet at our hotel. Thank you for giving us a visit and happy to hear you found your favorite oatmeal. We have had some really nice morning weather so the outdoor dining is always top choice. We hope you return sometime when back in Springfield.
