My wife and I wanted to have a fish fry, so we stopped here today. The parking lot was packed so we figured the food must be good! We were right! I had the Shrimp and fries, my wife the Cod sandwich with fries. Everything was excellent! We loved the atmosphere, small town people talking about farming and weekend plans, just what you would expect in a small Wisconsin town! Patty was our waitress, and was very friendly and had a good sense of humor! We will be stopping here again in the near future!

Order two sandwiches, They charged me for three. Got a refund, but still got three sandwiches. Poor communications. I could not eat all three sandwiches because they were also very poorly made. Did not taste good at all. Did not like waisting food, but just could not eat this mess.

You can also get a variety of deep fried appetizer options.Cubby’s is notable for hiring school age teens, teaching job responsibilities and achievements as well as working with school commitment schedules. They have also assisted many charity and community events over the years.Cubby’s....more than just pizza! (Almost forgot, we love the Italian sausage, mushroom and onion pizza.)

We frequent Suhbway more than any other restaurant in town. It is the cleanest Subway we have ever been to, the staff friendly and fast at food prep. They are never standing around, always cleaning and restocking. Everything is always fresh(pun intended)

Diverse menu for a small, off the beaten path restaurant. Young waitress "VERY PLEASANT, accommodating." A notch above the usual "Bar scene/food."

The Gas Lite Tavern sits among the rolling, winding roads of east central Wisconsin that are loved by bikers from the Twin Cities. The place is decidedly low brow. During warm days, the place is quiet but for the roar of loud motorcycles riding by. Lots of bikers stop in for a cold one or a quick snack. The place is old and it has seen better days. The wood paneling dates from the 70s and there are lots of posters for bike rides and charity events. A few locals sit around the bar and talk with the bartender who knows everyone. The Tequila selection consisted of Patron and garbage. The beer selection is mostly large national brands. The food selection is mostly frozen finger foods dropped in a deep fryer and frozen pizza.I went there with some friends while enjoying a sunny Friday afternoon on our motorcycles. It was time to wet our whistles and I needed some food. I ordered the chicken wings. They are small and heavily breaded. They come without any sauce on them. The bartender doubles as the cook when things are slow and she did a good job with them. They were bland and a bit greasy but that is to be expected from frozen wings. They were what I needed to slow the alcohol intake while riding. If you're not a local, this place is not a destination but it's a good place to stop, rest, rehydrate and grab a bite while you're out riding the twisty roads. It seems like it's out in the middle of nowhere, but it's close enough to the cites and worth the ride.

Common Man

A friend suggested that we stop here when on a motorcycle ride to have a burger so we took the suggestion and did not regret it one bit.Service was a bit slow but we were not in a hurry so no biggie. Did not drink because we were on a motorcycle but will be back to check out some of the fun drinks they offer outside of beer. Hubby had a whiskey burger and I had the Roger that flatbread. Both were very good and the homemade chips were really, really good. I liked the menu variety so that keeps me interested in coming back. The place was clean an had a fun vibe with cute decorations. There was outside eating but it was small and facing the parking lot so not sure if I would do that. What a great addition for the small town of Ellsworth!Thank you Beth for your review! We are glad you stopped in. As for the outside seating you mentioned, that was only temporary. We are in the process of a major patio renovation that should be completed soon. Make sure you check it out when you stop back to try those drinks! See you soon.

Shady Grove

This is by far our favorite restaurant in Western Wisconsin. We have never had anything but terrific meals here. The inside of the menu is typical supper club fare, but everything is always perfectly prepared and delicious. My go-to meal is on the inside - the walleye, fried with fries and salad with blue cheese dressing. Also available broiled, which is also good. The front page of the menu lists the specials that change weekly, I think. While the types of entrees stay the same - a duck, a pork, a vegetarian, etc. - the preparation of those things will change. All are terrific. Our last two visits have been even more outstanding for my wife. A month ago she had an ahi tuna salad that was fantastic, and last night it was a fisherman's stew that was beyond description. We were concerned when Steve and Heather sold the restaurant a few years ago, but Shane and Bridget have, if that's even possible, made it even better. Don't hesitate to try this place if you've never been!
