Hotel de Arganil

My second home in Portugal

Reviewed By Trip95584

Recently purchased a home and some property in Mouronho. Had two multi day stays at the Hotel Arganil in February and April of 2022, while dealing with issues involved in getting the house ready for occupancy. Staff were warm and welcoming. The hotel is spotlessly clean and they make good cocktails for evening fires in the lounge. Breakfast daily with a variety of things to eat. I love staying here and feel like it is a second home when in Portugal. I would recommend this Hotel to everyone.

MOST UNCOMFORTABLE BREAKFAST/EXPERIENCE.

This is the second time we stayed here and the last time. We found the Portuguese lady that runs this place (doesn't own) very off the first time, but this time was bordering on ridiculous. No, actually, it was ridiculous. Firstly, I'd like to add that the people that own the property are actually very nice, they just need to employ someone that cares about their business. They live miles away in a City. The first time we stayed we found the lady that lets you in and makes you breakfast, lukewarm. Every time I smiled, she gave me a blank look. My partner speaks some Portuguese, so they communicated to a point. When we left, our rental car wouldn't start. We called the owners and she called this lady to see if she would help, but she had an appointment (wasn't true because she forgot what she had said before) In the middle of the mountains, miles from anywhere and she refused to give any help or ask a neighbour, family. Nothing!!. Luckily, the owners got a local friend to come. Being back in the area, looking at local property we decided to stay here again. It is done out nicely and there isn't much else nearby because it's a while from anywhere. She arrived, head down, no greeting or smile. I have met this woman on four different occasions and didn't see her smile once. Only, a scowling look. She asked us what time we wanted breakfast, arriving late, we requested 9AM. She said that she had ANOTHER appointment and it had to be 8AM. Why ask?. The whole time she walked around the kitchen, within a foot or so of us, banging around, cleaning, emptying the dishwasher. She went outside three times and slammed the door, so hard, it went through you. My partner and i were looking at each other, thinking, what is going on. She then went over to the fire and started scrubbing the window, the metal banging for almost 10 minutes. The whole time saying nothing. When my partner attempted to make conversation, she purposely pretends she couldn't understand his Portuguese. Nothing was said to us at any point, no more coffee or hot water. A very angry woman, that obviously has an issue, but we still don't know what it was. The majority of the reviews in their guestbook (98%) are in Portuguese. Maybe, she has a problem with English? Foreigners? We were and still are baffled. The picture you see is how close the 12-foot long side was that she cleared, cleaned and put back, very loudly. Has to be one of the most awkward, not to mention rude experiences of my life. Go to the Arganil hotel. Lovely staff, always. Fantastic breakfast.

Surrounded by rolling hills

Reviewed By Go801679

The rooms are lovely, happy and spacious. The location is beautiful, very quiet and rural with stunning views over the hills. The hostess is very kind and very knowledgeable about the to do’s and to see’s in the area. The breakfast was delicious, lots of healthy options and even home made jams!, all served outside on the patio. We would love to go back! Parking available for motorbike in enclosed garage.

Fantastic modern clean en-suite room

Reviewed By Helen248Bristol

We booked this hotel for 1 night in December. It was a little tricky to find but once we had located it what a gem! It was small but very modern, new and immaculate. Bedding was stunning and bed so comfortable. The bathroom shower was amazing with a very high tech rain forest shower head. I do apologise if you heard any shouting from my room it was the shock of the shower being blasted by various nozzles - very liberating and wonderful experience. Complimentary water in room. The rooms are located above the Argus cafe which and breakfast is in the cafe. Their food is amazing and we had a cheese & ham toastie with a Pastel de nata and coffees. You must meet Carlos the host of cafe, although he speaks no English he is the friendliest man ever and we re visited the cafe a few time during our stay. This accommodation is not a hotel or B & B but an en-suite room in apartment block. It was very safe and parking was not in a car park but just outside of room. I highly recommend this accommodation and will be recommending it to friends and family. An amazing quiet stay. I don't know why it is not on Trip Advisor as it so warrants a review. I have photo's but for some reason it won't let me upload them.

Vumba Agrotourismo

Vumba is a small, family owned company, engaged in maintaining traditions and in providing a highly professional and personalized service. We produce the organic cheese "Quinta do Carapinhal" following ancient traditions and provide quality accomodation in a rural setting. We are highly influenced by our grandparents' memory, by their love for this land and by all the beauty they left behind. We try our best to honor this memory in everything we do. Vumba's estate - along with some old support facilities converted into cozy guesthouses - has a unique set of conditions which offer our guests peace of mind and the quiet enjoyment of a true rural experience. The old home of Vumba's foreman is n ow a very comfortable country house, with 3 good bedrooms, a big living room with a cozy fireplace, a nice and well equipped kitchen and a bathroom, with a beautiful view of the garden. The house has an inviting patio, ideal for relaxing after a walk in the woods. The renovation of the old winery gave birth to a snug little cottage with two rooms (The Alembic), plus two independent and stylish bedrroms which recall the family's Mozambican heritage (The Bue-Maria and The Gorongosa) and a large and elegant guest area including a lounge with dining-room and kitchen.

Destino campestre ideal

Reviewed By sonialourencolopes
