Reviewed By Boambee50This is not the most upmarket accommodation I’ve ever been in but my daughter and I rated our two bedroom apartment five star as it was so clean, well appointed and very comfortable. We stayed during a particularly cold week in Canberra. Walking into a warm apartment on a freezing night, after a long drive, was heavenly. Everything we needed was there. The restaurant provided a tasty take away meal. Then, we fell happily into beds that had electric blankets, quality bedding and lots of it. The location was excellent for everything we wanted to do in Canberra - visiting family and friends, shopping and seeing the sights. The staff at reception were helpful and friendly. I would recommend the Forrest Hotel and Apartments to anyone who would like to save on accommodation costs to spend on experiences in a great city.

Reviewed By AccentEllaThe staff were wonderful, especially Sulab who was very attentive and welcoming. I decided last minute to stay at the Garden City hotel and was very glad with my decision. I had a hot breakfast which was absolutely delicious and found the breakfast restaurant to be very cosy and the staff also very helpful. I will gladly stay again with my next visit to Canberra.

Typical Cheap Motel but Good for 1 Night

I was thrilled to have been able to donate plasma in the morning and get a tattoo in the afternoon before spending the night on Lonsdale St with a friend; with the War Memorial in the middle of the day! This is relevant because the motel's location made it perfect for ducking back and forth, quickly and easily. Nice and quite for the most part! Bathroom is far too small and fridge is in dumb place as you could easily knock someone out with the bathroom door if they're in the fridge. The lighting needs improvement and some extra powerpoints would be great as there is none near the single bed. Curtains in the room were threadbare and a lot of light came in the morning. Otherwise it was clean and comfy; a good cheap motel for 1 night.

Reviewed By gosnmWe knew this was one of the cheaper motels in Canberra - so didn’t expect the Ritz, but there were a few things that were just frustrating and make for a 3 star review. Between 2 couples we had 2 rooms, a twin Room that had 2 Double beds, and a family room that had a Queen Bed and bunks. For a four night stay the family room was definitely the preferable of the two as it was larger, lighter, and better equipped. The positives: Price, and the rooms were generally clean, the beds were comfortable. The outside area is simple but clean and tidy, no graffiti or anything. Good showers with lots of hot water. Surprisingly quiet given distance from main highway, and walking distance to a train stop. The negatives: The twin room was far too small to comfortably accomodate more than one couple. Although it came with a microwave / jug / toaster & cutlery & crockery it didn’t have anything required for actually using the microwave. No big bowl / microwave dish or anything, also no detergent or dishcloth - and although we asked these never appeared. So washing dishes is basically rinsing them in the bathroom hand-basin. Lighting was also appalling in the downstairs twin room, too dim at night to read anything as no overhead lighting. The shower also was missing a curtain so it was impossible to shower without drowning the whole bathroom. The family room was much better appointed and had a genuine kitchenette with everything required for both microwave and cook-top and its own sink + detergent. However the room STUNK of stale cigarette smoke so clearly the “No smoking sign” is often ignored. The doona cover was completely revolting in how badly it smelt of cigarettes - we did get this changed on request but it makes me wonder how often the covers are routinely changed. there is a free laundry with washer and dryer, but washer has some issues and it took 4+hrs to finish a cycle and let us get our washing out. Would be fine for a 1-2 night stay - but I wouldn’t do a 4 night stay here again.

Reviewed By sarahjane2178Liked · This hotel is in a fantastic location - walking distance to a supermarket and many cafes/restaurants. It is also only minutes from the CBD and most main attractions. The beds were comfy and the room was of decent size with the added bonus of air conditioning. Disliked · Unfortunately, this is in bad need of an upgrade. The bathroom was terrible, and not terribly clean. There were 3 of us staying with one bar of soap. Admittedly, upon check-in I was told I could go back and ask for more - but it should be there in the first place. There was no shampoo or conditioner, which is often standard even in budget hotels. Nor were there enough classes or mugs for the 3 of us staying.

Poorly maintained
Reviewed By colm1Whilst the staff were pleasant and helpful, I couldn’t recommend these villas based on our 3 night stay. We found a massive amount of cobwebs and other dirt between the curtains and window near the front entrance and appeared as though this area had not been inspected/cleaned for a long time. Terrible bed which was way past it's use by date. Hot plates took far too long to heat up to be bothered with. A pwerpoint had a faulty switch which was emitting sparks. These issues should have been addressed before offering to guests.
