We stayed 3 nights in the most lovely room which was clean and had everything you could possibly need for self catering. The view from the room was stunning with a beautiful sunset. They were really welcoming & accommodating! We would definitely recommend it and will be returning soon.

Without doubt - The best way for caravanning in France

Reviewed By davidwY5817YG

La Baudonnière is a little gem - so glad we found it! Whilst caravanning in the UK can be great, we found that we ended up hardly using ours mainly due to either the great British weather or the best C+C sites being fully booked when the weather did threaten to be anything close to being pleasant. This is a lovely small site in the grounds of a wonderful 16th Century Manoir which itself has a number of very comfortable rooms and separate gites available should you wish any friends to join and visit you! The facilities are very well cared for with a spotless showering/laundry and utility building with a large swimming pool to enjoy. Pitches are very generous and the whole place offers a very relaxing ambience to enjoy and chill out with great views over the surrounding countryside. Also well positioned for exploring the area with the added benefit of 'Le Puy du Fou' being only a short drive away. Tom and Eleanor are great hosts and very welcoming, proudly willing to make every stay enjoyable and comfortable. The Icing on the cake for me though, is that I leave the caravan on site with it being brought out of covered storage and pitched on site ready each time for my arrival and subsequently returned to storage at the end of each stay. All at a price that is far cheaper than open storage in the UK and leaving the caravan exposed to all that this entails - If you are feeling particularly lazy, Tom will also arrange for any awnings etc to be erected ready for you (for a v.small fee) and can also offer caravan servicing and cleaning as required. The savings in towing/ferry fares are obvious and it is so easy - we have previously booked low cost flights into Nantes, hired a car and within 45 mins from the airport, been on site for some great cheap long weekends. Lastly - you are also free to travel on further should you wish to to explore the rest that France has to offer should you wish to use the storage facilities only or utilise La Baudonniere as a start/finish or part of any planned break. Yes, you are tied to using your caravan in France - but I know where I would rather be and we now actually use it in addition to other holidays. Well done Tom and Eleanor!

Villa Bettina, The Belle of La Baule

Reviewed By Buzzlara

Villa Bettina is located in ancient pine woods 5 minutes walk from the beach fronting La Baule. This well run hotel is extremely comfortable and has probably the friendliest staff in the north of France. Our room was disappointing as it was very small. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was good but it was very cramped. We were told that we should have asked to change but I think that might have been difficult as the hotel was full for the days we stayed there! Dinner was hot buffet every night which alarmed us but we had no need to be concerned. It was excellent every evening. After expressing doubt about the main course one evening the dish was changed immediately, just for us! The ambience and cheerfulness of the staff in the hotel was infectious and we cannot wait to return.

Nice location but unattended?

Reviewed By KirkyLondon

Good location but on arrival no entry to hotel? When we dialled the number the person that answered couldn’t speak English. We managed to get code to open the door. Very strange for a large hotel no one was there, we returned 10 minutes before check in time, still no one there. Eventually a lady arrived at 5.10pm she seemed to be the only one working there. She didn’t speak English ( which on the booking details it stated English was spoken). We had requested a room on the ground floor, as one of our group is hard of walking, we were given 2 rooms on the second floor (no elevator on property). I showed her the confirmation email she then moved us but one room only had a bath, no shower, we both wanted showers we were moved again. The lady was as helpful as she could be. Rooms are very nice, no hairdryer. After we returned later again the hotel was unattended which made us a little uncomfortable as keys are left at reception and anyone could get them also if there was an emergency there is no one to contact. There was a lot of traffic noise at night as it backs onto a main road. Breakfast was very good, buffet style. Again the same lady was there, she seemed to be doing everything! Nice garden, which we sat in after dinner with a bottle of wine. Lots of parking.

Chateau Breduriere

Domaine de la Bredurière is a charming estate of 6ha. not far from the picturesque winetown Mareuil sur Lay and only a 30 minutes drive from the beautiful Atlantic coast and her sunny sandbeaches. The estate has 3 atmospheric hotelrooms in the chateau , 3 luxiourious lodges and 2 comfortable gite. There is a large heated swimmingpool. The Vendée has a pleasant climate with almost as much sunhours as Côte d’Azur. The historic buildings such as the dovecote, stables, dogkennel, holy spring and winery make the ancient history of this extraordinary place undeniable. Domaine de la Bredurière is because of her “southern” appearance the ideal destination for a tranquil vacation for young and old.

Wonderful location, fantastic people and amazing hospitality

From the moment we arrived the welcome could not have been more genuine and friendly. Having booked a room in the chateau we were delighted to be given a guided tour of the grounds that really set us up for our 4 night stay. We travelled to France to attend Festival Dans Les Jardins De William Christie in nearby Thire. Marieke is a wonderful accommodation manager - Nothing was too much trouble for her. It was obvious from the outset that she intended in making our stay special, and I'm sure she does the same for everyone! The views over the estate vineyard and out onto the sunflower fields was so relaxing. We found some great walks nearby and a fantastic restaurant in Maison Desamy in Mareuil-sur-lay-Dissais. This was our first adventure post COVID lockdowns and couldn't have been a better start! Highly recommend staying here as a base for touring the Pays de la Loire region

Wedding

Stayed here for 3 nights for a wedding so my experience was not the same as using it as an hotel. The rooms with kitchens are amazing- really modern in such an old building which is a rare combination. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a wonderful shower. Only problem was mirrors above the basins too high for short people. The gardens and nearby woods are a joy to explore and the pool a nice temperature. Great location only 20 minutes fro Saumur

Amazement at every corner

One cannot approach a stay at 12th century old castle like any other stay. This is the realm of authenticity and pure French hospitality tradition. The hosts / owners adore their property and entertain with much pride and openness people coming from different paths of life and countries. The food is one of the many privileges you come across when stepping into this very well cared for castle. Big and small rooms, pictures of long-gone people, stoned or tiled or laminated flooring throughout with amazing scent of old structures. This is a definite trip to make down the fascinating History of France. Your hosts will tell you the most amazing stories about the castle and its surroundings. You will not want to forget the smell at the dinner table, the noises of the forest in the night and might even come across the eternal ghost of the murdering husband haunting the place since the 17th century. It is not a Sheraton or a Hilton, it is much more than that. It is life as you would dream to live it.

What a beautiful place !!!!!!! We have had a fantastic stay here. It’s a family run business and ‘Sandra’ ( the wife) spoke English and looked after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble and she went over and above to make sure we were ok. Breakfast was around the family table and it was so fresh and tasted great. We learned how to drink coffee like the French. The pool area was a fantastic asset to the property and everything was of a high standard ( clean areas, soft sun beds, proper sun parasols etc. There was also a hot tub, ping pong and boules. Sandra offered to organise some lunch and dinner for us and it was very good and reasonable. We stayed in the ‘ quirky ‘ blue room which was spacious. Covid practices were in place and adhered to at all times. Oscar the dog was beautiful. It felt like we were in a family home with high hotel standards. Sandra helped us plan days out, helped us look for our next hotel, booked us into a restaurant and was constantly around to help. I have been in the travel business for over 25 years and would definitely recommend this place.

We stayed one night in May and wished we could have stayed longer. It was indeed magical - the architecture, the gardens, the terrace, the beautiful dining room and lovely breakfast all contributed to a very memorable stay. The room appointments were superb down to the smallest details and had fantastic views of the gardens from the bedroom and bathroom. Very gracious hosts. I could go on. Do not hesitate to go!
