10 Top-Rated Specialty lodgings in Malaga, Costa del Sol, Province of Malaga, Andalucia

April 26, 2023 Jacquiline Darosa

Malaga is one of the oldest cities in the world, founded in the 8th century by the Phoenicians. Today, art is everywhere-- you can experience exhibits dedicated to glass and crystal, classic cars, contemporary installations, and, of course, the works of Picasso, who was born here. Wander past banana trees and beautiful fountains as you walk through Paseo del Parque, then hit the old city to quench your thirst at a Spanish tavern.

We stayed one night and enjoyed our overnight. The key handover with Ruben was without any difficulties. There is a bus direct to the city center (~25 minutes) and some nice restaurants around the corner. Taxi to airport costs ~20€.

good option close to airport

Reviewed By Sara d

Close to the airport, so neighborhood is residential , but very local. The apartment was spacious and nicely furnished and decorated. We stayed in the downstairs apartment, which had a big enclosed patio (maybe too enclosed for some...especially with very hot temperatures). Curious about the upstairs apartments with balcony. The only advice I would give is to equip the kitchen a little more (ex: toaster, wine opener) We enjoyed our stay and would recommend if you want to stay in a nice and quiet place close to the airport.

Perfect Location.

I stayed here for two nights. The location of this hostal is excelent, just next to Piccaso Museo and other attractions, also right in the heart of Malaga centro and close to everthing. The room that I stayed in was very basic indeed, consisting of just a single bed a chair and table and wardrobe. It was very clean and it was cleaned daily, it was ok just to sleep in but not to spend any more time in. The room didn't have a toilet or shower, it had a basic shared bathroom and kitchen, although very clean. The price doubled on my second night as it was saturday which is the case everywhere. It wasn't cheap, but I don't think mainland Spain is cheap for accommodation.

Holidays2Malaga Flamenco Apartments

Dreadful. Awful. Distressing.

Reviewed By Honest_truth21

At a glance the property is well maintained, modestly decorated and pleasant. Until we took a single breath and were physically repulsed by the smell. Despite the notice on the interior of the door, which clearly states no-smoking, it was evident either the previous guest, the owner, or perhaps the cleaner had smoked s number of cigarettes or more likely cigars in the room. The odour was horrific. How the site management team had approved the apartment for guests is beyond me. You could taste stale smoke in the air, practically feel it in the fabric and despite our best efforts to air the room, smell it engrained in the bedsheets, duvet and pillow. It was toxic. As we arrived late there was little we could do but endure the situation until the next day. We opened the windows as wide as possible in an effort to increase airflow. Which leads to problem number two... Holidays2Malaga failed to mention that the apartment was not only in the same building, but immediately backed on to a late night venue (6am). I later discovered the DJ box, dancefloor and sound system was in the next room, separated by an internal dividing wall. I like evening entertainment but staying virtually in a nightclub is not my idea of fun. In addition to the noise vibrating through the room, there was the added issue of nightclub guests in the alley, immediately outside the window to our apartment, which as you might imagine was not delicate. I can't fault the local population (based on language) for enjoying themselves however the sound and subsequent smell of vomit and urine is less than desirable. It was hell. It appeared the alley was also frequented by at least a couple of local homeless or perhaps mentally ill persons who decided to ride the commercial waste disposal units (for the bars in the immediate area - oh I forgot about being awoken to the sound of clattering glass bottles being deposited by the bars at 7/8am shortly after we managed to get to sleep) at their convenience for trinkets etc. I might have written a review while I was there, had we had internet, as specified in the room specification before booking. We were unable to access the internet for nearly the entirety of our stay. We connected to a local service incurring personal costs each day until the penultimate day to explain that the wifi would not connect. We were given the correct password but for the wrong route - there was no route. A fact which it took several days to communicate despite our best efforts to reiterate, 'there is no router in this apartment.. here is a picture of the ethernet socket with no router attached to it' (obviously with picture attached). We also discovered on day two that the sofa was riddled with animal hair. Evidently a previous guest brought a pet that lived on the sofa or perhaps a feral cat used the room between visors... Not very nice. So the apartment killed our experience. Malaga has a lot to offer and I would love to visit again but there's no chance I'd use this company again without significant guarantees in place. We tried our best to enjoy the sights and the culture but trying to operate on little to no sleep, in a foreign country, in heat.. is not fun. We complained to Holidays2Malaga about the smell. They came and replaced the sheets the next day and left us a reed diffuser and complimentary drinks (a mini bottle of wine and a litre of water - available for about 4/5 euros) - a rather impotent response to the issue in my mind. You could still smell smoke in the bed linens, the smoke has apparently permeated the sheets and stained the pillows, duvet and mattress. The sofa was cleaned however the neglect of the surface prompted questions about the cleanliness of other surfaces in the apartment which caused additional anxiety. Whether the staff perhaps misunderstood or didn't care about our experience is unclear. It took considerable effort to communicate the issues with the wifi and failure to mention the nightclub in the room next door is a grievous omission in my opinion. I hope the latter is true and they misunderstood. Based on our initial reception at the office and their effort to provide us with local information I can't fault the office staff for their initial efforts, but once we had signed for the key and left the office it seemed like we were irrelevant. I felt like I'd been mis-sold the package, completing undervalued and otherwise neglected. The apartment was horrid. Despite our tainted experience of the accommodation, Malaga was delightful. Great for a long weekend at least, I'm not sure the immediate area has enough for much longer or an extended trip. Obviously I have not stayed in other apartments with this provider but if this level of neglect is a general standard I would not encourage others to use them. Visit Malaga. But be selective in your choice of accommodation.

Superb location

Reviewed By Elisabeth S

Superb location, it was really central which made exploring the city so easy - quickly nip back to the room if you forgot something or needed a rest. It's fitted with a small kitchenette and a seating area. we were there for three nights and it was really good. unfortunately, we did not get a cathedral view room which was really disappointing. Also, the walls are very thin and the neighbours had a party on the first night, which made going to sleep rather difficult.
