Top 10 restaurants in Malaga, Spain

July 21, 2017 Concepcion Newsome

Malaga is one of the oldest cities in the world, founded in the 8th century by the Phoenicians. Today, art is everywhere-- you can experience exhibits dedicated to glass and crystal, classic cars, contemporary installations, and, of course, the works of Picasso, who was born here. Wander past banana trees and beautiful fountains as you walk through Paseo del Parque, then hit the old city to quench your thirst at a Spanish tavern.

It is almost 5 years ago since we were last in Malaga and this restaurant was so very memorable. Going back can sometimes be a mistake. Not this time. Stunning food, excellent atmosphere and service. Very well priced. If you have one night to eat out on Malaga El Mason De Cervantes is a wonderful place to enjoy Spanish food. Many dishes come on three sizes which allows sharing however many are eating together. The Prawns with Treacle were a highlight as was the Pork with pumpkin and pineapple relish... A very rare 5 Star rating. Well deserved.

Unexpected interior in this small but nice restaurant. Good food, good value for money. We especially liked the Gallego octopus. The bartender/cook was not overly friendly, but then again not unfriendly either. We would come here again.

This is a tiny place but the food is beyond great. They smoke their own fish, make their own butter. Everything tastes so good. The service is excellent. The smoked fish platter is wonderful and the brandy braised baby broad beans are really, really tasty. The only thing I would say is call ahead for Reservations. It's a very small place.

We went to this restaurant to finally eat some real spanish tapas and weren't disappointed! We relied on the owners recommendations and were perfectly satisfied with the variety he offered us. He could also explain us every dish - wich was necessary due to the spanish menu - an english one will come soon :-).
We had a variation of tapas and different desserts, that were all excellent and surprisingly low priced.
All things considered we had a very nice evening with great spanish food and a nice chat! If you come to Malaga, give this restaurant a try!
Und auf Deutsch noch kurz: super Restaurant, noch echt spanisch und mit sehr leckerem und qualitativ hochwertigem Essen für einen guten Preis.

Thank you TripAdvisor reviewers for another great recommendation! I can definitely echo what previous reviewers have stated --excellent service from Matthieu (Matthew) and exquisite dishes prepared by his brother, Charles. We eat our main meal around 2 pm daily because we are "early to bed" people, so fortunately for us they are open for lunch Fridays and Saturdays. Had the wonderful soup de jour, lentil, and the salad of the day, variety of lettuce with fresh pear, gorgonzola cheese and walnuts--a perfect combination. Then we shared the crab "dip" with toast (real crab, not the fake pollock). We then had four of the most succulent scallops we have ever tasted, served with a small portion of stewed tomatoes and stewed grapefruit peel with its juices--the price is dear, 4.5 euros per scallop., but definitely worth it (we had two each.)
Had very nice glasses of wine (I had white, hubby had red)--went with Matthieu's suggestions and were very pleased. Also had wonderful desserts, but they change daily, so I won't elaborate. We are very friendly people, so we were lucky that it wasn't too busy and we got to chat with both Matthieu and Charles. Their dry wit is refreshing, so besides a fantastic meal, we had good pheromones coursing through our bodies from all of the laughing we did. Thank you both for a very memorable 2 hours!

Small restaurant in the heart of Malaga, next to the Plaza de la Merced, the Cervantes Theater, and the Birthplace of Picasso. Our cuisine is eclectic: the influence of Asian and South American cuisine, with a marked local spirit. And we love wine!

I was hoping for a little more and perhaps a heavy cold left my tastebuds a bit muted but I was expecting more. Some well crafted gyozas were, well, a little bland. Scallops with guacamole and chilli needed the punch of heat and the texture was overall a bit soggy and slimy. Something crisp or crumbly might have helped. An excellent baked cheesecake rather redeemed the meal for me. Really good ingredients and some skill in evidence but not quite firing on all cylinders. Fair value, about €25 for 3 plates and two glasses of wine.

A very small, but yet cosy tapas bar, serves absolutely the best tapas in Malaga. Situated in the city centre near Plaza de la Constitution, without view, without large tables and many comforts, but serving magnificent food. All dishes made with excellent ingredients, using fusion ideas and progressive serving. Very friendly service makes you feel local, explaining all dishes. As of the taste: spectacular!!! I strongly recommend it! Don' t forget to taste avocado carpaccio...
