Still Homey

The Waterfront - Insular Hotel Davao , one of the "oldies" in the hotel business located in this sprawling super clean city with so much high rise buildings sprouting both for office spaces and of course for the booming tourism here (again -semi post COVID) . I first experienced the then Insular Hotel Davao ( not yet partnered with Waterfront group) back in the mid 90's . When it probably was the best hotel in the city , offered a nice bar (vinta bar) with someone playing the piano , food was very inviting , nightlife , crowd , ambience was 8 out of 10 combined. Hotel staff were different, more respectful , accommodating and pleasing . Not to take away anything from the present staff working , its usually management who calls the shots and trains their staff. Back then after a long drive coming from the province of Sultan Kudarat ( 120kms away) , the minute you stepped in the hotel you wouldn't want to go anywhere anymore. The drive would be so tiring that after a bottle of White wine , served with your choice of seafood - grilled tuna , fresh shrimps , oyster and everyone's favorite inihaw na baboy (grilled pork belly) with hot steaming rice. That was it . No time for coffee nor a cigarette , it was straight to the comfy bed and cold airconditioned room blasting away. Now its a bit different , aircons not working properly , didn't even bothered checking what was being offered on the menu, waiters didn't know what to suggest for finger foods .... But how can I complain it still felt like being back home. (Of course I had to transfer room, one with an aircon blasting) . Overall it a 5 out of 10. Thank you Insular Hotel . We had good times together before. It's kept in my memory bank! Cheers.

Paradise indeed

I've been to lots of island vacations. Each of those getaways impresses me with their own remarkable allure. Our stay here though in Bintana sa Paraiso was majestic. I tried both their jungle snd mountain resort and each resorts boasts of their own unique charm. While cell signal is understandably unavailable because of it' location, the hotel provides modern conveniences such as wifi and cable tv. What makes up for the lack of signal is the service and accomodation of the staff. They provide such homey and personalized service. It's like being pampered by your own family. They tried yo cater to all our needs. Bryan Lopena is one gem of a find in this resort. Our Camiguin experience wouldn't have been this special if not for him. He was very knowledgeable, informative and indulgent. Through him we discovered some hole-in-the-wall nooks and interesting trivias about the island as well as some generous servings of culinary delights. He went above and beyond his call of duty to provide us with the hospitality that best represents our traits as Filipinos. Already we are rearing to return with family and friends to let them experience the same adventure we had. I'll surely go back to Bintana sa Paraiso and savor a relaxing vacation again.

Paradise in Siargao

Reviewed By KatAlonzo

Went here with my husband, MIL, and 3 kids. We super enjoyed our stay here - Our cabana is big and has complete amenities, the food is good at Isla Cusina, the resort is big so my kids enjoyed running around and they enjoyed swimming in the pool. Isla Cabana has two pools so it didn’t get crowded. The entire resort was new landscaped and we definitely felt we were in a paradise. I already expected the slow wifi internet because of the other reviews so I just used my phone’s data. I almost didn’t book this resort because of the negative reviews here but good thing I listened to my friend’s rating (she rated this resort 5/5) over the reviews here in tripadvisor. I actually didn’t understand the negative reviews because we really had a great time at Isla Cabana, I can say that it’s kid-friendly too. If we’re going to go back in Siargao, we will definitely stay here again!

Hof Gorei Beach Resort

I would actually rate this 3.5 out of 5, so "good" but I think it only fair to explain the why. The resort itself is a little run down but the owner is making efforts to improve the situation. The standout facilities are without a doubt the swimming pool, the hillside accommodation and the staff. There are even better rooms if you want to stay closer to the beach. We found the location a bit remote, which would be fine if you have your own transport but it is problematic if you have to rely on tricycles or the facility's minibus. We found the presence of chained up and locked up creatures a bit bothersome. Hornbills, peacocks, Minah, parakeets, monkey, python and dogs. Some dogs and cats and chickens had free reign but really imprisoned animals in this day and age is disappointing to find. The food was a bit variable, some meals were superb, others a bit mediocre. It was disappointing to find the fruit options a bit limiting (pineapple, mango and melon) where was the papaya the pomelo and bananas? It was disappointing that fresh whole fish or local oysters, prawns etc was off the cards too. The staff are very friendly but they have a limited repertoire of things that they can and cannot do and many of the amenities like poolside bar, a functioning bar at the beach, all were non existent. Staff it seems had to traipse all the way to and from some control area in order to prepare or collect anything. There was a bit too much detritus on the property too, with some buildings in a deteriorating state and quite a lot of compostable stuff piled up in various corners - quite unsightly. The beach and jetty is a bit sub par. Bare metal spikes protrude from portions of the jetty and clutter of gearboxes or engines and boxes and cans are all over the place accompanied with some of the buildings visibly in need of new woodwork. It would be lovely to have a meal out here but that's just not practical. The beach is cluttered with boats and basically unswimmable because of this. The beach is also only semi private, neighboring pearl fishermen persistently tout their wares. Overall we stayed for several nights booking through Agoda and paying around £50 a night for accommodation with its own comfort room and shower which were detached from the sleeping area, we had pretty good sleep with a noisy a/c through the night and only waking at sunrise to the cacophony of the peacocks and the hornbill. Communication up until our arrival was good with most exchanges by email and Facebook messenger. Our steward/butler did his best - ArJan to accommodate our requests, though it seems making up the room was by his own words not part of his brief. Great views from our room, relatively low occupancy, meaning almost exclusive access to the pool and a sedentary time meant we were super chilled. Internet access was tricky, mobile data coverage is poor and though there is WiFi all over, it isn't particularly fast or reliable, accordingly manage your expectations. We've stayed in similar accommodation before and this is ok for the price but perhaps on the higher end for the region. Food could be better but as I said, the owner is working on upgrades all over the place, new steps and railings are in progress and the accommodation will no doubt get more attention as required. We would stay again but would need to see evidence of some improvements that would bring the property back to pre pandemic levels. If you're not too fussy you WILL have a good time.

Balai sa Baibai

Balai sa Baibai is a Bisayan phrase that literally means "house by the beach." It also plays on the Thai term "sabai-sabai" which means to relax and chill out. Put together Balai sa Baibai means your relaxing home by the sea, a place to rest, and recover from your busy lives. And this is exactly what we the owners, Cocoy and Elden, want you to do - sit back, relax and enjoy Camiguin.

Totally love the place. We booked for 1 Villa which fits 2 pax and 3 Deluxe room which also fits 2 pax on each room. The resort is like Bali inspired resort, specially the rooms and the villa. Staff are very accommodating and friendly, they will actually welcome you with great smile aside from welcome drinks?. I love the way they will send you to your room and discuss all necessary things that you might need in the room. Though their beach is not conducive for swimming they have a nice clean pools located at the restaurant and bar where you can enjoy the water. I love the healthy vegan style food they serve in the restaurant m. They serve their fruit juices without sugar and love it so much.
