Worst amenities- don’t stay here

Reviewed By triptrio2011

Stayed with family camping- did not see toilets/showers cleaned in 4 days- overflowing bins, disgusting. Pool too dirty to swim in and small pool unavailable for 3 days as “ no chlorine” peak tourist season . Look elsewhere or better still go to Tumbling Waters caravan park in Litchfield and make your base there

Feeling ripped off

Reviewed By AramisB4

I’m sitting in the Aurora Kakadu Lodge caravan park in Jabiru with what I would class as very unclean & average facilities. A powered site for 2 adults is $58 per night. Last year I traveled extensively through the Eyre Peninsula & the Flinders Ranges. The average price for a night in SA was $30 for places with above average & clean facilities. I don’t know wether this is normal or just post CoVid gouging. Either way it doesn’t do much for tourism which is coming back to NT.

DIRTY and rundown

Reviewed By Judi_G123

This place is filthy! Our room had stains & mould in the sink (many cracks), anything which had fabric was badly stained eg the cushions, curtains and only inside chair, there were many cobwebs and the floor had bugs. The place is very old, cheaply built & rundown. The staff seemed nice but the local advice they gave was incorrect (eg the receptionist said that they were the only place where we could get dinner for 80kms, this was not correct). I do not recommend staying here.

Best place to lodge with nature in Kakadu

Reviewed By 63CarolineS

Cooinda is a combination of camping, permanent tented rooms and lodge rooms. My daughter and I had two lodge rooms, adjacent to each other (nos 3 and 4), and stayed for four nights. We had a lot of fun, and are glad that we stayed there principally because it is right in the heart of the park, and you really feel that you are up close to nature and the outdoors and not too cosseted. Below are my pros and cons Pros: - it’s wild and outdoorsy. There are no “indoor areas” like at the Mercure (we went and had a look when we were in Jabiru). It is a camping / lodge resort, so you really feel that you are close to nature. The billabong has crocs, the dingos wander around, birds and frogs are everywhere. - the lodge rooms are pretty decent. They are a bit spartan, but the Aircon is 100% reliable and not excessively noisy either. Lots of hot (solar) water, and loos that work well. Good showers, with little toiletries provided, and tea/coffee and a fridge - nice swimming pools for a good refresh on a hot day - everything was efficient - bar, restaurant, checkin, fuel. No hanging around - breakfast (include it in the room when you book) was great to fuel up for the day - staff are helpful and “can do” - the best thing is that Cooinda is right in the heart of Kakadu. Everything is on your doorstep and you are staying right there - great walks, the home billabong, the yellow river, art at Nourlangie. You are living in Kakadu Cons: - there is only one restaurant / one menu. It’s not bad, but after a few days you will be driven mad - limited fresh veggies etc, but that’s a problem across the whole area - housekeeping / changing towels / cleaning etc - totally hit and miss, and in our case sadly more miss than hit. Half the time they just didn’t appear - mobile connectivity is non existent unless you are on Telstra, and there is no wifi. This is great in some respects, but challenging in others. Reception has Telstra sims, which given a few hours will give you access to 3G. This is all due for upgrade later in the year. Cooinda is in a spectacular place and we were there at the beginning of the Dry, meaning that the colours were changing under our eyes. It was great, and would suit all ages.

Was lucky enough to spend another 3 days at Clearwater Island Lodge. What an experience! Had a warm welcome from host Kerri followed by an delicious meal of fresh Barramundi, stir fry and salad. The fishing was excellent (as always) and our guide Lynton has the gift of putting us on fish with ease, he also gave me some invaluable tips about how and where to present lures for each of the targeted fish. Cannot wait to get back there and make more memories! 10/10

Brilliant in every way! This is an amazing and stunning place to stay. Leith manages this place like clockwork! All the staff are exceptional especially Erin, and the guides Sam, Jason and Syd. The accommodation is luxurious, clean and has air con! The food is 5 star and plentiful….you will put on weight! The grounds are well maintained and the sunsets off the deck are beautiful, especially when the wait staff bring you more drinks and your canapés! The pool is lovely as are the sitting areas. The tours are a good mix of fishing, walking, history and nature. All up the whole tour we were on run by Outback Spirit was perfect.

Melville Island Lodge

Melville Island Lodge is situated on the fringe of Milikapati, a small and very friendly Tiwi Islands community, which is also known as Snake Bay. Our purpose-built Fishing Lodge, which is arguably the best located and most comfortable fishing destination in Australia, is positioned high on the water’s edge with sweeping views over beautiful Snake Bay and the Timor Sea.

Arguably our best fishing trip ever - epic!

Reviewed By Ashim M

My two good friends and I have been here a few times before and had terrific fishing and a great time, but this was the first time during the end of the wet season. We were concerned that it would still be hot and wet (which it was). But we were delighted with the fishing. Our guide, Andrew, was absolutely brilliant. He was incredibly thoughtful and found us a few spots to fish that brought us the biggest barramundi that we’ve ever caught - SEVERAL times! He was also able to instruct us and give us excellent instruction. After fishing for more than 50 years we still learned heaps. Andrew was patient and insightful, and also very aware that I was a fly fisherman as well as lure. So he found me an opportunity to cast the “wand” and I was rewarded with my first Saratoga on fly. Another fish off the fly casting bucket list. The food each night was really good and always featured a recently caught fish as well as a meat fish. Terrific food for such a remote venue. The rooms are simple and adequate. Air cons work well albeit noisily. Marcie and Gary are to be congratulated on maintaining the standard or the lodge. Well done all of you. We’ll be back next year.

Send two nights here as part of a tour of Arnhem Land by Outback Spirit. Accommodation is better than a 5 star luxury hotel, you get complimentary laundry, snacks and soft drinks. Food and service is way beyond excellent, just like eating in a posh restaurant. Do not miss the sunset and kookaburra show before dinner time. Although we did not catch any fish, the fishing guide Mark was patient, obliging and full of knowledge. The resort manager Dave is something else, he should be working in those high end resort, he run a very well organised, efficient and tight ship, always more than happy to go the distance to make the guest happy and comfortable and nothing is too hard for him.
