Nice Hotel with need of a little TLC

Reviewed By DCARDS

We stayed here for a week as part of the Azores Getaway Package in May 2022. Location: Hotel is on the waterfront which is beautiful but a bit of a hike to the City of Angra. If you have any mobility issues you need to take a cab for about $5 euros or find a hotel closer. I didn't mind the walk, but in May it rained every night and was hard to plan the walk around the weather. Gym: Gym was closed due to renovations and the option was a gym in Angra. No prior warning of this. Bar: Bar upstairs has a patio over looking the water and the staff are very attentive and accommodating. Staff went out of there way to serve us. Maids: Rooms were clean but ran out of toilet paper and Kleenex and had to ask maids for refill. Left most days for tours and when we returned at 4PM the room still wasn't done. Requested an upgrade on booking to oceanfront, but was advised there were non available. With only about 20 people at breakfast I found this hard to believe. Staff assisted with electrical adaptors and assisted with restaurants in the area. Front staff assisted when asked. Most people reported the rooms outdated which I didn't find. The beds were firm but comfortable but we had two singles pushed together. We had room 220 which was second floor overlooking not much. The exterior paint needs a bit of work and the exterior looks a little tired. Construction was ongoing on the ocean decks below so jack hammers were going during the day. I guess the work needs to be done and the spring is the off season so no fault here. Breakfast: Breakfast was the same everyday which I was expected having read previous reviews. Breakfast was not bad, but always found something to eat. Coffee from the machine was watered down. We usually got a coffee across the street in the morning. I would not discourage anyone from going here just adjust expectations.

We stayed here for 7 nights on a package and would recommend this hotel. Here are some things to consider: PROS: Large parking lot Decent breakfast offerings Friendly staff (English speaking) Modern hotel with modern conveniences Bar open in the evening Because we were on a package, I'm not sure what it cost but it was reasonable CONS: It's at the top of a steep hill. You'll get a workout every day! Bathroom configuration was odd. Had to sit on the toilet sideways Housekeeping was VERY erratic; had to ask for toilet paper and fresh towels more than once The lobby is not very large; it would be nice if they would open the breakfast room just to allow groups to congregate in the evening to play board games or dominoes The lighting in the bar is terrible miserable horrible! Fix that! Consider sprucing up the outdoor space of the bar Bartenders are not always available or very well-trained when the bar is open Staff sometimes are smoking at the back door; smoke travels to the interior of the hotel.

A great value and location

We just got back from a week on Terceira and booked this hotel through an Azores Getaway package. As far as the value and location goes, you really can't beat this place. It's as central as it gets, very close to the shore and a lot of really great places to eat. The hotel is not new, but not in bad shape, and the staff was exceptional. The breakfast has a lot of options and is included in the room if booked the way we did. It has a gorgeous view of the botanical gardens behind the property. We had drinks and snacks at the bar a few times, and also on their 4th floor solarium (which also boasts an amazing view). If I had issues, the beds in our room were a bit stiff for personal taste (not like they kept us up or anything), and we'd asked for a King, but it was really just two beds put together. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Terceira, and happy to have found such a central hotel at such a bargain.

We loved this hotel as it was modern, very clean, quiet (only 28 rooms) and a good location 10 minute walk to the center of Angra. Free parking was always available right outside the main entrance. The staff was exceptional and treated us like family. A big thank you to front desk staff Fermanda and Sergio as well as hotel restaurant worker Nunu.

Spring Vacation to Terceira

Wife an I stayed at this Boutique hotel for one week. Rooms were small but had all the amenities one could want in a room. Beds were very comfortable, small fridge in the room to keep your drinks cold and a coffee maker (hotel only supplies you with two pod, you need to buy some at the local grocery store, which we did). A/c worked well, tv was nice with a good selection of channels. Breakfast was great with a good variety for everyone, although it was the same every day. Hotel had a nice heated pool inside, a colder pool outside, a sauna and a nice touch with the steam bath. overall, staff were always willing to help and offer suggestions. Hotel wifi worked very well. Parking may be an issue as only two spots in front of the hotel, Parking lot is a short 5 minute walk. We would stay at this hotel again in the future.

The Shipyard Angra

The Shipyard was born like the island trees, from scratch. Using the carpentry wood that was left, we built a safe harbor for you and your family and friends at Terceira Island, Azores. Shipyard Angra takes inspiration from the nautical theme, very present in the island. OFICINA DA ESQUINA SIGNED BY CHEF VÍTOR SOBRAL Oficina is our restaurant. Quinta do Espirito Santo

Quinta do Espirito Santo is a cultural, historical, ecological and tourism project, based on a recently restored 18th century countryside manor house, classified as historic landmark since 2010, which embeds the aesthetic tastes, preferences and experiences of 5 family generations. A Mirror of the Island

Reviewed By James C

During my 2-week trip around Portugal, Quinta do Espirito Santo is the most favorite. It is not only just a place for a stay but a place providing an authentic experience with the stories of Terceira Island. I stayed 2 memorable days here with Francisco -the owner who is also a very knowledgeable history teacher and museum director, and his wife, just like one of their family members. The manor itself (including the hotel's main buildings, subordinate houses, and a lovely tropical garden) is a mirror of the island's background, speaking to the maritime history and the special geographical position of this island. All the furniture and decorations have their own stories and histories. The host couple is very friendly, helpful, and talkative, and we always had very interesting talks. The rooms are very clean and atmosphere. This is a unique oasis of Terceira and Azores which makes a trip very unusual.

Quinta do Martelo

ENVIRONMENT, PEACE AND CULTURE - A LIFE EXPERIENCE "QUINTA DO MARTELO" - The ethnographic and gastronomic truth - The best of our tradition At "Quinta do Martelo", we intended to replace a genuine Azorean rural setting, starting with the buildings and props, to the food, surroundings and ways of life. Here we can observe and experience the entire evolution of culinary culture, ethnographic and civilization of the Azores, over the centuries. To the visitor who comes live with us, it's offered the true ambience of an Azorean rural house. In these houses, we intend to replace strictly an authentic environment, starting with the must genuine construction, furniture of the highest quality, the result of research and survey of traditional knowledge of architecture, decoration and other equipment from the beginning of settlement, without neglecting the more modern refinements of comfort. It is also given the opportunity to show both rural chores and the remaining traditional arts and crafts. The accommodation available, is spread over several houses, all different, examples of what best is possible to find in decorative furniture made in this island over the past four centuries, covering types from the settlement to the last century. At "Quinta do Martelo" we can find the finest cuisine of this island that has been awarded the 1st place in the contest "Gastronomy - National Heritage" and other numerous different prizes. Everything here is biologically produced and consumed in the restaurant "Ti Manel da Quinta"

Authentic, tranquil haven! The perfect Terceira experience

Reviewed By Rimi C

Staying here is like stepping back into a simpler life of idyllic peace and quiet. The property is a living museum of how Azoreans lived connected to the land with their own animals, gardens and market for guests. We spent an entire afternoon exploring the grounds of Quinta do Martelo and still didn't cover it all with all the winding paths and hidden "gems". The location was central for exploring the island, close to city of Angra do Heroísmo but set off in a more secluded, quiet area. Each house is like a museum in itself, illustrating what village life was like more than a century ago. The attention to detail and authenticity is remarkable, each part of the house has been well thought out to preserve both history and tradition, while ensuring coziness and comfort to its guests. The house we stayed in had a traditional wood fired kitchen and it was great to imagine what it was like keeping a fire going all day (but then just flipping on the stove when we needed to use one, LOL). We also had a chance to light the old-fashioned kerosene lamps. We enjoyed dinner one night at the restaurant, which was very special as they serve traditional dishes and we ate appetizers we hadn't tried anywhere else on the island. The Alcatra was incredible and the staff was attentive and kind. Nearly all the food served is grown at the Quinta. For anyone who enjoys connecting to history and culture, and getting a real sense of a place Quinta do Martelo is the place to stay! Thank you, we'll be back <3
