Nothing like my idea of a 5-star hotel
Reviewed By Jo GI stayed 3 nights in this hotel with a walking group (Exodus). The location amidst vineyards is attractive but about 30 mins drive to the nearest town. Reception staff mostly spoke no English and were pretty unhelpful. The overall impression in the new wing where our rooms were was of an old people's home. The first room I was given was a disabled room with grubby tiles all down one wall, a disabled toilet and shower with no bath. I asked to move and was given a slightly better room with a bath but the decor was all dark brown and dark green so very dismal. Only the toilet was partitioned off from the room so it would certainly not be suitable for sharing with someone you didn't know very well. The long corridors (ramps) to the rooms are floored in stained grey plastic: very institutional. The old building was attractive and the restaurant was OK.

Reviewed By BillyDee2014We stayed here for a couple of nights in May and have nothing but nice things to say. The room was comfortable and clean. The shower was good and the view from the balcony was amazing. From the lemon trees in the yard to the flowers by the pool to the gorgeous views of the bridges and the tiered hillsides the sight was beautiful. The breakfast was good and ample. in short it was a nice stop on our trip. The vineyards were only a short drive away and the restaurants down by the river / railroad were very good.

Reviewed By bekie1985Nice location with the view on the Douro. It was to cold to swim outside but we believe that in summertime it’s a great location to have a swim. While in the pool, the view must be beautiful. Breakfast was on the room but was very nice. Presented in a basket it had everything we needed inside. Fresh orange juice, coffee, bread, eggs,…. (at arrival you have to select what you want as breakfast) classical furniture (very nice in its portugese style), good bed and good shower.

Reviewed By SaaraV65Really loved our 3-night stay there. The family is extremely hospitable and welcoming: they did everything to make us feel like home. The view is spectacular and the location great if you want to visit the wineries in the region: in Pinhao, Peso da Regua or the Vila Real district in general. The breakfast included fresh orange juice, fresh fruits, bread, yoghurt, granola, pancakes etc. so a good selection of quality products. Would definitely stay here again.

No view from triple room and no food
Reviewed By ASHcom123This place is somewhat inbetween a rural hotel and a quinta, lacking a bit in charm. There may be nice views from upstairs rooms but the triple room at the ground floor (door to reception area!) is dark and with no view whatsoever. Upon arrival we were informed that the stove was not working so there would be no dinner available for the rest of the week! Hmm, came from a long and difficult drive and would need to find dinner elsewhere. A text message would have been appropriate.

All of our bedrooms have a fenomenal view over the waters of Rabagao River. Our outdoor space has a panoramic swimming pool, a small rail that is perfect for a walk and a sitting area. Inside there is a guest room filled with confortable couches, a bar and a library. You can read or just relax by the fireplace when in the colder days. Hotel Features - 5 double bedrooms and 7 twin bedrooms - 1 suite - Outdoor Swimming Pool - Multi-function Room (meetings, cinema, etc.) - Reading room/Library - Bar - Air conditioning and coffee machine in all bedrooms - "Ponte do Diabo" restaurant - Free Wi-Fi - Smoking Lounge

Family farmhouse with 6 hectares of garden and wineyard. Seven granite-stone houses totally renewed are spread in the terraced garden. This is lovely spot for those who wish to combine country with easy access to town. 3 Kms from Casa de Mateus, 10 minutes from the heart of the Douro Valley and from Alvão Natural Park.
Beautiful hadden gem
Reviewed By KrmiNetherlandsWhat a beautiful hidden gem this estate is in the middle of the urban area of Vila Real. On extensive grounds along the river are a number of houses from which we rented Casa do Lagar for three nights. Very nicely decorated and with a terrace that fits in a movie scenario. Fresh bread rolls are delivered every morning and supermarkets for delicacies are nearby. And of course there is the shop at the reception where they also sell wine and tapas. Two swimming pools with sunbeds surrounded by a beautiful garden... we would have liked to have stayed much longer. In some places you immediately feel at home. Thank you Francisco it was fantastic.
