Lovely Pit Stop on the way to the South of France

Reviewed By CambridgeFil

After a very early morning start from the UK, arriving in Beaune and having the chance of a very relaxing evening in this lovely B&B. The beds are extremely comfortable and the breakfast is delicious, with home-made jams and lovely coffee, which set us up nicely for the second leg of our journey. It is about 5 miles outside Beaune and so very easy to park (which isn’t always the case in Beaune) and Laetitia booked a very nice restaurant for us in Beaune. Highly recommended.

Beautiful place to stay!

Reviewed By epamanneu

My boyfriend and I wanted to go wine tasting in the Cote de Beaune area and decided to stay in Puligny Monrachet as we could easily cycle to nearby villages. The location was great for getting around by bike so we could taste wines all day. The room was immaculate, clean and very modern having only been built in 2017. Upon arrival we received a glass of wine, from the winemaker and owner of Deveny-Mars. The guest house is only small with 4-5 rooms so it had such a homey feel with the upstairs kitchen/dining area available for use. This was very helpful as due to the time of year, there is not much selection of restaurants nearby apart from Olivier Lefleive & Le Monrachet which are gourmet and very nice, but not for every day we were there! The kitchen also has a lot of wine which you can have at normal price for the wine with no added charge for drinking it in the hotel, which I thought was a very nice touch. The upstairs is also so pretty and modern, with anything you could wish for in terms of cooking! This is where breakfast was served everyday. It was very nice with pastries, bread, cheese, ham etc with eggs made to order. There was very secure parking and a safe place to store bikes, which was very important to us! The staff were so accommodating, rooms were cleaned every day to a very high standard and they even helped us order a pizza over the phone as our French is not good! On our last day we decided to buy the Deveny-Mars wine to take home with us, and we went into the boutique where we were met by the winemaker and owner who gave us a fantastic tasting. He speaks excellent English (as did all staff) and really helped us to appreciate and enjoy his wine. This tasting was thoroughly enjoyed and one of the best ones of our holiday. We could not have asked for a nicer place to stay whilst we were in Puligny and would highly recommend to families, couples and anyone visiting the area.

A pleasant stay

Reviewed By Peter1Northampton

The hotel is very nice. An old beautiful building offered as a hotel by the family owners. The room was spacious and well equipped with only minor observations. Breakfast was pleasant fairly straightforward but still wholly acceptable. Pommard is a quiet village but has great access to the best vineyards in the area for tasting and buying wine. The only observations I’d make are there is no air conditioning, but a large fan is provided and proves adequate. There is no in room fridge which for close to €200 euros a night I would expect. There was no in room safe. The WiFi is terrible it really doesn’t work well, you’ll struggle for connection and forget streaming any form of video. I also think the owners might be slightly more flexible about customers drinking their own wine on the outside terrace. I do appreciate it’s a hotel but it’s also going to attract lots of wine buyers and the option of sampling your vineyard purchases at the hotel outside on the terrace on a warm evening would be welcome, even if they required a corkage charge to so. We were flatly refused to be able to do this. A nice hotel I would visit the area again but perhaps look for somewhere more flexible on where you can drink your wine purchases.

MY EXPECTATIONS WERE LETDOWN

Reviewed By freddiedoncaster

We had been looking forward to staying here after I’d booked it back in January. With all the Covid going on, I honestly thought our stay would never happen, but it did. We had booked it for our first nights stop on our way to Southern Spain. After driving well over 1000 kilometres, we were shattered. We knew the hotel had a pool, so we’re so looking forward to a plunge! We arrived at the hotel at 2.20pm, to find out it was gated and locked. We had booked through Booking.com, so I looked at my printout to see if there was any sign of a check in time, which there wasn’t. We then phoned the two numbers that were associated with the hotel owner, we tried these on numerous occasions and they constantly went to answer phone. We then emailed the hotel, stating we were outside the gates in 33 degrees heat, having driven over 1000 kilometres, and just wanted to get in! Surprise surprise, they answered the email, stating check in was 4pm! We had noticed a code panel near the gate, so we emailed again (as he couldn’t be bothered to answer his phone)if we could just have that, as we could see in the grounds that there were tables and chairs which we could at least have relaxed on until 4pm. We got another reply!......saying.....”not possible!” Then from out of nowhere two guests arrived back after a day out and let us in!!....RESULT! We managed to enjoy 45 minutes relaxing, drinking a bottle of wine which we had brought in a cooler box with us. Then at exactly 4pm the electric gates opened, and what I saw next was despicable. The owner emerged from the hotel, knowing full well that we were outside as his private quarters overlooked the entrance!!! I’ve met some devious people in my time, but this guy has got to be at the top of my list. Emanuele is his name if you’re ever unfortunate enough to visit. The only good thing I can say about the place is the location. Having said that the gardens were badly kept, the barbecue was disgusting, and our table outside our room still had tab ends in an ashtray and spat out cherry stones on it! AVOID with a big, massive , enormous A !!

Great hospitality

Reviewed By ferjill

We stayed three nights at this B&B. The only room available was the smallest with the bathroom/toilet down the hall. These facilities were only for our use and there was a sink in our bedroom. The room was comfortable and I also spent time downstairs in the living room which has nice sofas and many books to peruse. The entire place was spotless. The B&B is in an excellent location to visit medieval villages and châteaux. It’s not far from the Burgundy Canal, great for walking, running, and cycling. The Burgundy vineyards are not far away. The breakfasts were copious with many homemade preserves, honey, and a selection of cheeses to accompany the bread. Two kinds of yogurt, goat milk and homemade, were offered. Our hostess, Veronique, prepared a different treat each morning like apricot crumble and crème caramel. Veronique speaks excellent English and she sat with me and my husband a few times for good conversation. She is very interesting and knowledgeable. We did not get to meet her husband, Jacques, as he is ill. We will definitely return to this charming, comfortable B&B.

A wonderful place to spend a few day’s exploring the Burgundy area. Surrounded by vineyards, la Combotte provides peace and tranquillity. Even with open windows at night, we slept in total silence. The room was simply and beautifully decorated with a very large bed and sensational walk in shower. The pool is fabulous (take your own towels) bikes are available to explore the gently undulating landscape and the owners are super hospitable and friendly. Breakfast is made up of bread, croissants, cheese, fruit and homemade conserves. Can be a one night stop over or as we did a base for a few days. Wine tasting with the owners niece was also a pleasure. No catering for dinner or lunch onsite but guests are able to use the fridge and kitchen area to prepare simple meals. Supermarket is a ten minute drive away and the gorgeous nearby town Meursault provides an array of restaurants for dinner. Take a walk up the hill to get a view over the valley. Thank you Natalie and Denis for giving us opportunity to stay with you.
