10 Things to Do in Murren That You Shouldn't Miss

March 5, 2018 Sachiko Swiger

The only way to reach lovely Murren is by taking a series of trains and cable cars. Once you’re there, you’re walking or biking around this charming car-free village. But it’s well-worth the trek, especially if you’re a skier or snowboarder. There are 32 miles of trails plus lots of off-piste opportunities. The sledding is even better. Take a cable car to the summit of Schilthorn for epic alpine views.

Blumental Panorama Trail

I was sick and could not climb high due to asthma and allergies. I did this trail all day and was good. The views are just spectacular and different than riding in cable cars and trains. Something about walking past cows changes it. Switzerland is designed for kids as there are loads of secret trails and treasures like zip lines and slides around each turn. SO FUN!

Flying face-to-face with the snow-capped Mountains

We had an amazing time paragliding and I don’t think there is a prettier place to do it. What really made our experience great was our instructors. Buzz and Lars are hilarious and made us feel comfortable running off the side of the mountain. Would go again!

Jungfraujoch Sphinx Observatory

Reviewed By Huilong - Singapore, Singapore

Took a day trip package that covers the journey from Zurich to Bernese Oberland, Interlaken and finally to Jungfraujoch.
The view from Jungfraujoch is AMAZING!
Coming from Asia, this is the first time for me to experiencing falling snow and such cold (chilling) temperature.
During my visit, some of the outdoor activities were closed but there still are few informative areas to visit: Ice palace, Aletsch Glacier..etc But nothing beats the view from Sphinx Observatory.
Note:
1. The F&B is extremely expensive. A korean cup noodle is CHF 9.9 up there and i think the mains are around CHF15+. Recommended to pack your Sandwich and hot drinks.
2. The Lindt outlet is more expensive. Despite the salesman's pitch that they are cheaper than market or airport - this is NOT true. You can easily beat their price anywhere in Zurich and there are alot of promotions in the airport, so skip the purchase.
3. Wear appropriate clothing
In short: if you are visiting Zurich, this is something you need to do, once in a lifetime.

The Eiger Trail

Reviewed By goodmanjl - watertown

Not a difficult hike if you are starting from Eigergletscher, though it is a little steep getting up to Eigergletscher from Kleine Scheidegg. The views looking away from the Eiger out over the valley and Mountains beyond were beautiful. But though you walk right beneath the Eiger there was never a clear view looking straight up the headwall. The hike also was very long, I actually got a little bored. Evenually ended up at Alpiglen for a nice lunch at the restaurant then a quick train back up to Kleine Scheidegg where I was staying. To do the hike from Alpiglen to Kleine Scheidegg would be a long up hill climb, to me not worth it. At least I hiked it in the right direction - down not up!

The trek to get here is worth it. The views are amazing. We came out of the cloud on the penultimate gondola and boy did it look good. Didn't do the 007 exhibition - too much snowboarding to do. But watched s couple of OHMSS...MoreDear Andrew-Leakey, We were delighted to receive your positive feedback and look forward to welcoming you again soon to the Schilthorn – Piz Gloria. Lauterbrunnen Valley Waterfalls

Reviewed By Catherine M - Canton of Geneva, Switzerland

Always so special to see the impressive Waterfalls in this beautiful valley. From the village wander up to see the Staubbach falls. In the summer you can actually walk up a staircase that will take you right under the falls. In the winter this closed as it is too dangerous, because of the risk of falling ice.
If you want to see really impressive falls go to thé Trümmelbach falls up the valley. These are inside the mountain and can be reached by lift or foot (lots of stairs!!). You can really see how the water has eroded the mountain, beautiful falls. Lots of noise here ad the water thunders down.
The whole valley is beautiful. Summertime is best, in winter there is very little sunlight here, only from 11am to 1pm. It's shady and cold.

Skiset Wengen

Reviewed By jeffreysmallhorn - Canton of Geneva, Switzerland

Colin and Tracy run a very well organized and professional ski hire place at Wengen. They have years of experience, are close to the train station which is the main modes of transport to most of the ski hills, the kids ski lesson area and one of the cable cars, which is a must when carrying all the equipment that you need to ski or snowboard. They are warm and gracious and make you feel like you are borrowing ski equipment from friends, rather than hiring from a shop. They employ staff who are most helpful, and their daughter who was working in the shop at the time provided us with some tips on various ski hills. I would recommend them to anyone who was planning on skiing and renting while in Wengen. Jeffrey, Lori and family

Its amazing! Getting there is half the adventure. The train ride through the stunning towns of the Jungfrau region is a delight in itself. The highest train station in the world opens up to Jungfraujoch, the top of Europe. Its excellent even in bad weather. With plenty to see and do and if the skies are clear you are rewarded with some of the best views I have ever seen.

Trummelbach Falls

Reviewed By Bhashika_Edirisinghe - Colombo, Sri Lanka

Visited in a rainy afternoon. There are 10 glacier Waterfalls which are actually created from a single water-source which creates 10 falls through the rock on its way down.
We took the lift up to the 7th waterfall, then climbed to see the 10th. On the way down by foot we watched all other falls. It was the best way to do it since the descending was more easier.
You have to be extra careful since the stairs are slippery. If you are some one with walking/climbing difficulties, it is recommended to use the lift.
Despite all the climbs, it was a different and worth having experience.....
