The former Yugoslav republic of Slovenia, which gained its independence in 1991, is slightly smaller than New Jersey. With one toe dipped in the Adriatic and several major rivers and lakes, water sports are popular. To the east, the Alps provide excellent hiking and skiing. Nestled below its castle, the capital of Llubjana is a vibrant, youthful city with a thrilling arts scene, a flotilla of festivals and impressive architecture that runs the stylistic gamut from Renaissance to Art Nouveau.

the friendliest place I have ever been too

Reviewed By Maria H

I stayed in Casa del Sal for a couple of days in August. I traveled with my mum and two young sons. I picked the place because I do not like busy resorts and big hotels and the choice was perfect. We stayed in a spacious apartment with 2 bedrooms and a kitchen and direct access to the beautiful garden which was very handy with a constantly moving 2years old boy. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious made from the local fresh ingredients. The place is beautiful and relaxing. The busy road might bother some people, however it was not a problem for us. What is the most important and what creates the atmosphere of the place are the owners. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed with a bottle of cold white wine which was like a blessing after a long drive. They were very kind and helpful with all of our requests. The owner pumped the pool in the garden especially for my son. Unfortunately, during our stay there was a big problem with the mosquitos all along the coast. When my older son got an allergic reaction because of the bites Paola did absolutely everything to help us. She gave us the name of the good pediatric clinic in case we needed to see a doctor. After all when we decided to check out earlier than planned (only because of the mosquito problem) there was not a problem with a refund. I was very impressed and grateful for the way they treated us. Beside all that the place is perfect as a starting point for day trips. Dear Casa del Sal thank you very much for everything again!

Tourist Farm Rogar

La haut , sur la montagne !

Reviewed By BernardS724

It is all true! The magical wooden hut smells like a forest, the view left us in awe, bed sheets, and towels were fresh and clean, the tiny kitchen corner is not only practical but also aesthetically very nicely arranged with a vintage vibe. The food is - my god, delicious. As a Slovenian, I can say that this is truly a traditional gastronomical and ambiental experience that will not let you down. We came by car, parked it by the hut and cycle around the hills of Smrekovec, Golte, and even to Koroška region which is nearby. The most enjoyable rides of my life. Steep but with awarding views. Also the hosts are super nice! To be honest, this was the best stay ever. Maja&Blaž

Jelenov Breg Pod Matajurjem

At the foot of the mighty Mount Matajur above the village of Livek, you will find the Jelenov breg tourist farm in the hamlet of Avsa. Once you reach the edge of the village where the farm is located, you will be treated to a magnificent view of the Krn mountain range (Krnsko pogorje). The Medves family who live on the farm have devoted their hearts and souls to their work there, which is well-demonstrated by the guests who keep returning to their farm. Culinary enthusiasts will undoubtedly enjoy their lunch and dinner, prepared in the old-fashioned, farm way. The farm breeds game animals in pens, which is why venison specialties often adorn the dinner table. Guests staying at the farm can choose to live in an apartment or in a log cabin. If you wish, you can have a full-blown picnic at the farm. Your hosts will be happy to accompany you on a hike, including ascents to the nearby mountain peaks as well as visits to museums, milking demonstrations and the making of cheese and cottage cheese from cow's milk. They will also gladly recount interesting stories about hunting in Slovenia. The Medves family ascribes great importance to the teaching of younger generations, which is why they organise a summer camp for boys and girls aged 8 to 13 so as to show them the beauties of nature. The children get to know nature, animals, farm chores and the like, and in doing so, have fun in each other's company.

Ultimate Farm to Table Experience

Reviewed By strangersblog

Even in a foodie paradise like Slovenia, this family-run restaurant gives a new meaning to the farm-to-table experience. The outdoor tables are literally IN the farm. At one point a roving miniature horse decided to help himself to the lettuce garden and was politely sent back to the pasture. You can visit the other horses, pigs and fowl while you wait for the next course to be delivered. No printed menus. Aljoša explains what's fresh today, while his wife and mom do the cooking. Starter of fresh picked wild garlic and skutin cheese spread, with local cheese from the lower pastures where the cows stay in winter. Followed by choices for both vegetarians and meat-eaters, everything unbelievably fresh and well prepared. We couldn't choose between the pear pie and the local version of struklji for dessert, so we had both, followed by a choice of local schnapps. A memorable outdoor feast. The dining room is also pleasant, filled with local artifacts from World War I and original beekeeping panels. I came here on a tour arranged by local expert Meeting Mountains. While Kobarid is famous for the world class cooking at Hiša Franko, a visit to this local family that cooks with love shows where Slovenia's gourmet chefs get their inspiration.

The rooms in the old farm house are basic but very charming. It's a perfect starting point for long walks to waterfalls and mountain views. The single toilet/shower is clearly not sufficient for the entire house but the hosts are very friendly. And then there's the food ... Yummie yummie ... everything is home-made and truly excellent. The best meals we had in Slovenia, restaurants included.

Well, this was very pleasant and nice experience. This old touristic farm is really something special. It’s location is on the main road of the Robanov Kot which is really near Logarska Dolina. Host will provide you with the old but nice and clean rooms, breakfast and dinner which are mostly made from their own products (bread, sausages, cheese, jam, milk, tea…) and it’s so delicious. This farm has an good family tradition and you will feel it. Also, you will enjoy the nature around, mountains, forest, cows,… all that for very reasonable and small price. We will return here, for sure!!!

Tourist farm Ravnjak

The tourist farm Ravnjak, holder of the Four Apples Quality Award, lies under the abundantly stretched forest coat of Mount Urslja gora. Due to its sea level of 760 m it offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills of the Koroška region (Carinthia). Yet from this spot the glance stretches far more distantly, all the way to the hill ranges of Mariborsko Pohorje and Kope. Enlaced by meadows, a pond, fruit orchard and magnificent trees the tourist farm lures its guests into a cosy warm accommodation and promises rest, relaxation as well as a memorable experience.
