Daocheng County or Dapba in Tibetan (Tibetan: འདབ་པ་རྫོང།, ZYPY: Dabba Zong; Chinese: 稻城县; pinyin: Dàochéng Xiàn), historically Daoba (simplified Chinese: 稻坝; traditional Chinese: 稻壩; pinyin: Dàobà), is a county of western Sichuan Province, China, located in the eastern Hengduan Mountains. It is under the administration of the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture with an overwhelmingly Tibetan population. Its latitude ranges from 27° 58' to 29° 30' N and longitude 99° 56' to 100° 36', and reaches 174 kilometres (108 mi) in north-south extent and 63 km (39 mi) in east-west width, with elevations ranging from 2,000 to 6,032 m (6,562 to 19,790 ft).

The best trip I had in years; with a very spiritual and physical means to us. Like the Holy Mountain film from Alejandro Jodorowsky; we climbed to the top of all 3 Mountains (permitted and safe levels only), to reach a new level of spiritual understanding of ourselves. Tired, sun-burned (a lot), thirsty and sick of high altitude but happy at the end. We totally recommend this trip if you are able to master your own earthly (thirst, hunger, tiredness, etc) needs cuz the road high, tough and not so many will reach the "Milk Sea" or the "5 Colors Sea". Strengthen your will and reach the top. Glaciers are gone, rivers and lakes are getting dry.... Not a Shangri-La anymore, very sad...

'a small monastery called Chonggu/ChoonKoo Temple (冲古寺). Imposing snowy Mountains, golden grassland, streams twinkling in the sunlight and the azure sky form a beautiful backdrop for the 800-year-old stone temple built in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). After heavy rains, a silken fog hangs over the temple, creating a dreamscape that leaves one speechless'

After getting off from the highest airport located in the world (DaoCheng Airport), Haizin Mountain was just the start of our trip. Great view, but terribly dry. Forgotten memories of the past went into my mind when our guide told us that this drought started 8 years ago... Recommended for some shots.

Beautiful scenery once, but now almost dried up. Bang River and Sela Grasslands (my friends called it 色拉屎原 or Sela toilet; because it's full of yak manure now) are almost erased from DaoCheng's environment, thanks to our global warning menace. Don't expect to much or you will be disappointed.

Tried doing this hike twice. The first time, we did not know what to expect (due to very little available info, even from locals), and did not pack lunch. Hiked for 2 hours and decided to head back. The second time round, we went better prepared with sufficient water and food. Hiked for 4 hours along the canyon, which is a continuous upward climb, gentle incline along a river. Water in the river was crystal clear as it came from the surrounding snow Mountains. Pristine primary forest surrounded us all the way. Expect wild flowers and plenty of butterflies accompanying you on your hike during summer. What's really great about this place is that we did not bump into anyone else, other than 2 local villagers herding cows. We read on a Chinese blog that there are 9 wooden Bridges to cross, prior to clearing the bush line. However, after managing past the 9th bridge and hiking for another 45 mins, it did not look like we were clearing the bush line anytime soon. Taking into account the weather conditions (rain clouds approaching) and time, we decided to head back. We spent a total of 6 hours there, 4 hours up and 2 hours down. To get there, we hired a car and driver to take us to Kasi Village. The trailhead is right where the flagpoles are. You will need to have the driver wait for your return as there is no other way you can get a ride out.

Another Tibetan temple complex in Yading Area. Beautiful, well-kept and interesting. Here you can see and smell a millennial tradition very different from our well-known Tier-1 cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Incense smell, friendly people and lots of pictures are worth to visit this place. Totally recommend for couples and small groups.

One of the best sights in Yading Area; when we reach the grassland and saw its top; we totally remembered Paramount Pictures logo (no ties with the company or whatsoever, just a personal comment), pyramid shaped and amazingly high. A very iconic place to take some shots. Most of the snow its gone; and during autumn the sun is quite harsh so take your precautions..

You can walk the 4.5 km way to the Rubuchaka Hot Springs from Daocheng City. Taking a taxi is another option.
At the end of the road there are many local families which offer offer those kind of bath tubs in small rooms. You pay 20 RMB/person no matter how long you stay there.
The rooms are rather basic and not really new. However, they get cleaned after every visitor and of course, also filled up with fresh water. You can adjust the temperature yourself. Be careful, the spring water can be very hot!
I think, especially people who visit Daocheng in winter or during a cold period should have a try. It's worth the price.
