No Grumble in the jungle!
Reviewed By DaveandPaulaWe booked this through booking. Com for 3 nights so we could do the elephant safari and orphanage. When reading other reviews we thought it best to book half board. Oh boy what a great choice! This little resort comprises of just 3 cabanas, and a small restaurant/reception area. It's owned and run by husband and wife team Jayalath and Prasansha. We were welcomed by Prasansha who showed us to our cabana and explained a few details. One of them being the crocs outside the bathroom, just in case we need them in the shower to stop us from slipping, what a kind thought! The bed was very comfortable and very clean. Kettle, tea and coffee were available and a fridge with cold drinks, beer, nuts and biscuits at a very reasonable price. Outside there is a patio area with wooden deckchairs and table, and a hammock. Perfect for lazing! We had booked a half day safari with them at the time of booking, private jeep with an English speaking driver, so no need for a guide. He was amazing, with 8 years experience. and didn't follow all the other jeeps, he knew exactly where to go to give us the best safari. Breakfast too was provided overlooking the mountains. Idyllic! Breakfast here was typical SL cuisine, string hoppers, coconut roti, homemade pickles. Dinner was buffet style and so good! Prasansha asked us if we were vegetarian or if we didn't like too much spice, no on both counts for us! 10/10 for food and service. This little gem is perfect if you want a few days to do safari and orphanage (which is within walking distance). We were so warmly welcomed and really didn't want to leave so soon. Thank you guys for making this trip so perfect.

Don’t overcharge tourists
Reviewed By donfambhxIt’s ok - looks tired and run down. Kingsley, the manager seemed friendly. The lunch and dinner was a buffet style, not a lot of choice. The pool area was dirty and run down. Be careful when you order anything here, check the price. We had a buffet lunch and it was awful, the manager then charged us more then double what we would have paid anywhere else! Disappointing- they are suffering due to covid but should not overcharge customers because of this.

Reviewed By Dave JI stayed there for two nights while and did a safari with them. It was great! The rooms are an awesome budget option. Fantastic and delicious food which the host prepared for me at very cheap price. I was only able to eat half of the incredible banquet i was given. Very friendly and helpful with everything. They gave me room service for no extra price. Rooms were clean and nice to stay in. They organised a taxi from there to Ella for a good price also. Highly recommended going there

Reviewed By Max BVery nice and attentive people running this place. We came with 8 friends in the evening and felt welcome from the first second. They cooked a very nice meal (and lunch the next day) which where both tasty and fresh. The Safari we booked here a well was also very well organised.

Reviewed By Ami-UK18very Clean and peaceful place with Friendly Staff, Conveniently Located in the Rathnapura Town, friendly helpful staff. our trip was short while traveling to Colombo on half way, and it was the • Presidential Election night and wanted to catch up the results on TV. we had big room with Shower and Jacuzzi. which we never used, only disappointment is there were no Beer in the Mini Bar due to the Elections, overall good place for money we pay.. Food was ok and do not try Thai Food, since it is not the authentic Thai and it is Sri Lankna Fusion Thai Food

Rooms have a ceiling fan, patio doors onto your own outdoor seating area to view the forest, outdoor shower room with hairdryer! No wifi or phone signal - great! Food is all freshly prepared buffet style, probably the best food we had on the trip. Only serve beer and soft drinks but you can bring your own! They will chill your wine!! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, help with bird identification.

Reviewed By Evarts123It's about a 2 to 3 hour drive from Colombo depending on how you drive and which route you take. You need to have a car with a high ground clearance to reach there or else the bottom might knock. If you have a vehicle with a body kit, there is a place to park it 1km before the hotel in a safe garden and the hotel will provide a truck to pick you up. But motorbikes and trishaws go on the road with no issue so it all depends on your driving skills as the road is a bit narrow with steep uphill climbs. Best is to rely on Google maps where the directions were 100% accurate right to the entrance of the hotel. The hotel has a car park with a shade due to trees all around. They have a swimming pool which is formed out of natural rock with natural water flowing from the top of the mountain. Great to swim and relax in it. water is very cold and fresh. much healthier than swimming in a chlorine filled swimming pool. There are plenty of nature tracks to explore / walk on but if you are walking off the main path, you might get bitten by leeches. Luckily the hotel and the garden area within the hotel does not have any leeches. If you are a nature lover, then you will love this place as there are a lot of birds, butterflies, lizards and insects in this area and near the hotel along the walking paths. Another thing that I loved about this place was that there was no Dialog phone signals in the hotel area so I was able to relax without the distraction of social media or people calling me. If you are looking for healthy, local / village food, this is the best place to visit. They serve local curries which none of the lunch packet shops offer. Also, what's unique here is that when they serve food, the portions are large and they don't serve the same food twice. For example, you are 100% guaranteed that the curries you ate for lunch today won't be served tonight or for lunch tomorrow as the menu is totally different giving you a variety. Another thing I love about this place is that for tea time they make some food (ie peni pol pancakes) and serve along with the tea free of charge and the portions are big too so you can eat all you want. Each room has a ceiling fan but you won't need it in the night because it gets very cold in the night. Luckily the bathroom has hot water because the water coming direct from the top of the mountain to your bathroom is icy cold. The staff are very friendly and helpful too and will go out of their way to ensure that you have a happy and memorable stay. I guess the total staff count including the chef was around 3 or 4 people. Usually, when I visit most hotels, I can't wait till I get back home but this was one of the very few places which I felt so sad and miserable to leave once we checked out. This is one hotel that I will definitely visit again for sure.
