Casa Na Sra. do Carmo

The origin of the name "Casa Nª Sra do Carmo" is associated with the its private chapel. Opened in 2014, the house offers a warm and comfortable space, combining a modern style with its still visible history associated with vine growing and the production of the famous Port wine. The "lagares" and the winery are interesting features that will not go unnoticed. The "Casa Nª Sra do Carmo" offers a panoramic view of the Douro valley and of the surrounding mountains with their terraced vineyards. It is certainly a unique place to spend relaxing moments, with tranquility and nature all around us.

Beautiful views and friendly host

We had a short stay here in August, and wished we had had longer. The guesthouse has been stylishly converted from an old family property and is clean, with great open areas both indoors and out, to sit and relax. The views across the valley are incredible. As so many other reviews have mentioned, Nuno is a wonderful host - friendly, knowledgable and very generous with his time (we bombarded him with so many questions). We did a 6km walk from the house and also took electric bikes out for the day through Nuno's company, using GPS guidance to cover 60km's of the Douro valley - this was a real highlight of our trip. We would highly recommend a stay here, whether you want to relax and drink in the views (and the local wine) or be active...its a perfect base for both.

We stayed here as a part of a self guided bike tour. The hotel has a great terrace on the second floor where you can enjoy some food and drink. The staff is super helpful and goes above and beyond (e.g. when I asked if it was too late for cheese and meat board at 23:30, I was given a smile and asked where I wanted to eat it; and they did a load of laundry for us at a reasonable fee). The bathroom was a little snug, and there isn’t a ton of places to eat in town, but the hotel coordinated an affordable local cab. I would definitely stay here again!

Super friendly host, didn't like the accommodation much

Reviewed By Dung L

This is an accommodation which is nice for a stop-over and only for sleeping, but not if you are looking for a relaxing home-base. Me and my boyfriend stayed for three days in a room on the first floor which hadn't been renovated yet like the other rooms (on the ground floor). It had quite a dank smell, of water that has been hanging around too long. The bed was quite hard and uncomfortable (I think for a one-night stay it would be fine) and there was no reading lamp. So if my boyfriend wanted to sleep and I wanted to read, someone had to compromise. The only outside space is a terrace where you can order dinner in the evenings, but the lights go off after dinner, so you cannot relax and sit outside on your own in the evenings. The family who runs the place is lovely though, and the lady/mother of the house is amazingly friendly. She does the cooking for the guests herself. One time we were asking if they had pizza. It wasn't on the menu but then she just disappeared off into the kitchen for almost an hour cooking pizza for us! Another plus is that there is a parking area on the premises and breakfast included. The breakfast is simple but it was all we needed to start our day.

Exceptional

Reviewed By mesquita_mas

First of all, we fell in love with the village and the accommodation in such a way that we stayed for 3 nights instead of the first one booked. The facilities are perfect, humbly but tastefully decorated, crystal clean and spacious; the hosts are from the "Preto" family, spectacular people, really heartwarming, they make you feel at home; the breakfast is rich and full of homemade products, served in the restaurant annexed to the accommodation, speaking of which, serves divine food made from local ingredients (vegetables, cow meat, sausages made by and meat smoked by the "Pretos", in-house!). And the surroundings... the Gerês National Park is of a rare beauty, the granite mountainsides, the lush greens, even when it's rainy and foggy it's magical... the village is also beautiful, with most of the buildings respecting the local past architecture, giving it a enchanted medieval look, with a bakery (oh, the bread...) and a Celtic tavern completing the picture. In love...

Decepcionada

Reviewed By Elena L

Doble cara...

What a gem! Quiet, best views in the region, large and very clean rooms, nice pool and terrace and a very warm welcome by young lady. Excellent value for money. Plus, strict compliance with all Covid-19 measures - thank you very much for that (it is not done everywhere in Portugal).

Amazing venue for events, a romantic break or relaxing spa. Restaurant with all regional delicassies served by a very friendly staff headed by Senhor Emídio, a true ambassador of Quinta da Pacheca group. Driving distance from Mirandela, Podence and Bragança, and very close to Rabaçal Ecovia for nature hiking.
