Hotel is very clean and welcoming, and we enjoyed our stay there very much. Breakfast was great, especially the bakes. They also have spa which looked beautiful and a happy hour with nice cocktails and beer in the afternoon. I highly recommend to stay in this hotel while traveling through Iceland

Great Base for Snaefellsnes Peninsula

Reviewed By ScottS_MN

I arrived in late May for a 3 night stay. They met my request for a quiet room with an upgrade to move me away from tour groups. Rafaela at the front desk was amazing! She's friendly and efficient handling check-in & guest concerns with a personal touch. Breakfast was $17 but my best option with eggs, sausage, bacon & pancakes plus an array of cold choices. My room was spacious, quiet, comfortable with a great view of the mountains & sea. I had a rain shower that was nice. They have an elevator. They have one of the only bars in town with a friendly Hungarian bar-keep. I don't usually stay Fosshotel but this was very nice

Hotel Budir

Hotel Budir is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful countryside hotels in Iceland, just a short drive from Iceland's capital city, Reykjavik. The hotel sits in a lava field on the westernmost tip of the Snaefellsnes peninsula, in the western region of Iceland. Due to the hotel's location, guests have an impressive view of the breathtaking Snaefellsjokull glacier and the Budir-estuary which meanders into the vast Faxafloi-Bay where a number of seals reside.Over the winter time its cozy sitting by the fireplace having hot chocolate and enjoying the amazing northern lights Aurora borealis just outside the hotel. Hotel Budir's restaurant, arguably one of the most romantic restaurants in Iceland, has been referred to as "The Mecca of Icelandic cooking", due to its unique and delightful cuisine. The restaurant's menu is seasonal and takes advantage of fresh local produce like seafood and fish from neighbouring villages such as Stykkisholmur, Olafsvik and Borgarnes. The hotel also organises and hosts a number of weddings, all of which are unique and tailor made with the wedding couple or their representatives. Many of the weddings ceremonies are conducted in the little church close to Hotel Budir or in the hotel reception; it is even possible to get married on the golden sand beach close to the hotel. In addition, the hotel also offers facilities for meetings and small-to-medium sized conferences thus making it ideal for business-meetings or conferences with colleagues.Hotel Budir has it all, a world-class service, fine food and drink and luxurious rooms, making it ideal for get-togethers with friends and family, or a romantic weekend with a loved one - all of which can be enjoyed in an indescribably beautiful environment.

Not a great meal the first night .

Reviewed By 7777markw

If we hadn’t stayed a second night this review would have been poor . Let’s start with the good things , the view from room 22 is truly stunning and probably the best thing about the hotel . The hotel itself is traditional and currently undergoing extension works . Food on the first evening was really poor . The Arctic char starter was tiny and my main course of tenderloin was tasteless . My wife had the lamb which was 50% fat and had hardly any garnish . What a change the second night , we both had cod which came with a generous serving of carrots and the Caramel desert was larger than any course we had had the night before . We can only think Monday was the chefs night off , the two meals were chalk and cheese .

Enjoyable stay

Reviewed By winnielaa

Beautifully renovated hotel. It’s a drive (15-20 min) from Borgarnes but I liked that it’s quiet and a very nice hotel. Room was small but quite functional and clean. Only minor complaint is the design of the shower, you have to actively try not to get water out. There is a restaurant on the top floor but we had dinner before coming. Simple breakfast buffet is provided with all the basics. Also the server will make you eggs and bacon, nice to have some warm food. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you’re in the area for the night. Good to have breakfast included.

Communication with them was HORRIBLE! Worst experience in over 4 years....

Reviewed By Ariane B

When we travel, we have access to wifi but not to a phone. If it is your case, NEVER EVER book here. We received a message a few hours before check in to let us know there would not be anyone at the reception when we would arrive, and that we needed to call them. They could have, like every other place we've been to, given us the lock key code via the messaging then, but no, we had to call them. We answered that we could not since we had no access to a phone (well not one with a sims card at least)... We told them we had arrived, we were waiting and would be waiting for their answer on the messaging chat. They answered at one point (or maybe it was an automatic response) to say they would help us with parking when we got there. But we were already there! We told them again... We waited in the car for over 1 hour, no answer from them. It was windy and snowy and really cold (around -1 degrees) outside, and I needed to go to the bathroom... The only reason we got inside eventually was because another tourist who had booked there arrived and let us in... That is it. It has now been 24 hours and they still never answered my many messages... I would have slept in my car if it was only left to them. I can add, on top of that, that we were supposed to come there in 2020, it was cancelled because of covid of course and they never were accomodating, they never wanted to reimburse, they barely wanted to give us vouchers (with expiry dates), and the new dates would not have breakfast like it was suppose to at first (and that we paid for...). All in all, I would not recommend. Finally, once we were inside: the bed were bouncy castles (so springy we bounced when we moved on the one person bed... not comfortable), we could hear everything in the streets (cars passing by, etc.), the curtains would not cut the light entirely and would unroll up randomly, the bathroom were <high school change room> showers, two showers in a room with only a curtain, no place to change in private (on dry floor), the bathrooms were the same, 2 bathroom stalls for men, two for woman (that is it, 2 showers and toilets per gender for the whole establishment)... The kitchen also lacked a lot of things and we had to get creative with it... There was someone at the reception the next morning and she tried to suggest activities for us to do, but I had already all planned my day and by then, I just wanted to leave... Anyway, I would never go back there and I will actively tell people I know not to book there if they go in the snaefellsness peninsula. There are way better places (in Arnastapi for example, we stayed there too!)
