Narfeyrarstofa

Narfeyrarstofa restaurant and café is the oldest operating restaurant in Stykkishólmur. It’s a family business and is open all year round. Narfeyrarstofa’s menu features inventive dishes served artfully in the beautiful surroundings of the restaurant, where utterly charming views from the premises bring life to the atmosphere. There is a strong emphasis on creativity in the kitchen, and it is safe to say that craftsmanship is held in high regard, as the ingredients are of the finest quality and sourced locally wherever possible. Narfeyrarstofa’s chefs prepare all ingredients from scratch, and the kitchen makes use of a powerful meat processor as local meat is prepared in different ways for the various dishes on the menu. From the restaurant there are views over Breiðafjörður bay’s “natural pantry”. Ingredients from there are on the table every day, exceptionally fresh. Blue mussels from Breiðafjörður are always on offer when in season. The menu also has a selection of hamburgers, proclaimed to be “the real deal”, “juicy” and “even better than búllaburgers” by our guests, who come back for them again and again! Our wine menu is unusually diverse and features specially selected wines of various types. The restaurant is in a two-storey house built in 1906 in the heart of Stykkishólmur, by the old church that towers over Aðalgata. There is room for 70 people indoors, and it’s also possible to sit outside when the weather’s nice. The atmosphere at Narfeyrarstofa is warm and welcoming, and the staff and the owners do everything they can to provide outstanding service to their guests.

Located directly across the street from our hotel the Narfeyrarstofa was an obvious and excellent choice for dinner. My wife and I shared the fish soup. It was wonderful. Fresh fish and shellfish was abundantly distributed throughout the bowl. My wife had the local burger while I had more super fresh seafood with the spaghetti. All great choices. Bread and butter were also very good. We would definitely return.

In our trips to Iceland in 2014 and 2016, we ate all of our dinners at Altafoss Cafe while staying at lovely Minna-Mosfell Guesthouse nearby. The dinners were always delicious, moderately priced, with welcoming service. It sometimes took time for the food to be served, or to be told that a dish was not available.

We didn't have Reservations so we had to sit outside. The view is amazing. If you sit next to the building you are protected more from the wind. Food was delicious! The seafood soup was light and refined. Vegetable quiche is yummy.

The Settlement Center Restaurant

In our restaurant we invite you to a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and good quality food at reasonable prices. The Settlement Center is located in one of Borgarnes oldest houses. Yet the restaurant is modern and newly refurbished with due respect to old times. The menu is a blend of traditional Icelandic cooking with international flavors to it. Our whole family longed for a decent meal after a long, snowy drive. Without choice in a small town, we found this restaurant, serving us late lunch at 3pm in the whole restaurant. After having soup for several days, we decided to share some light dishes in a tight budget as the dishes were a bit pricey. The waiter was really friendly and helpful. He advise us to head back to Reykjavik after we finished our late lunch as there was storm coming couple of hours later. Anyway, we enjoyed all those dishes we ordered. I loved the most was the scallops and salad, they were so delicious and were beautifully presented as an art piece. Only a few table in the small cozy restaurant so you must book before you visit in normal case. Anyway, the food was really good and I loved the whole experience here.

Stopped here as part of a coach trip tour as the guide raved about the place. It was already busy from an earlier bus and it was clear they just couldn't cope with the numbers. The menu choice was limited, we ordered two fish soups which at £18 a piece shocked us, we didn't pay those prices in central Rekjavik!!!
The tables were pretty grotty with piled up dirty dishes and we tried our best to pile them out of the way before our food arrived. The service counter where you order food gave you a slip with a number on....seems simple enough?! However the waitress was coming out and shouting out the dish names, It was chaos and most people had ordered the same thing and nobody knew whose was first. The waitress seemed quite stressed out, thankfully another member of staff logically decided to stick to the number system!! The soup really did not live up to the expectations or cost, I had better in town. Eventually our group all got fed and we escaped back to the coach much later than expected.

Between the four of us we got some cinnamon buns covered in chocolate, croissants, bread, and an orange and chocolate cake. The cake was the star! It was perfectly moist and the orange-flavored cake really complemented the chocolate frosting extremely well. Prices were great!
