Large impressive building but rooms fairly bare and soulless.

All rooms and suites have fantastic views of the Atlantic and Figueira on the one side or Buarcos on the other. Suites are large but soulless and fairly bare. Beds very comfortable but bathroom, although well kitted out and luxurious, far to small and claustrophobic. Although a sofa, which could be used as an extra bed, was available it was not comfortable. Providing 2 easy chairs in rooms and different colour schemes would already be an improvement. Breakfast is excellent with great choice of everything. Parking available underground. Friendly staff. Would have rated "Very good" if rooms would have been more comfortable. But, bearing in mind prices, decided for "Average".

Reviewed By Gavin PWe recently stayed 2 nights at the Universal Boutique Hotel and really enjoyed our time there. Excellent location, charming hotel and very friendly staff. The car park is 2 min from the hotel and secure for only a minimal fee.

Complete beginner at surfing; our instructor Marcos was a careful and knowledgeable coach who could spot what you needed to do to stand up in your first few waves. Pedro made a point to connect with those in the surf school and showed what true hospitality is. If you are solo travelling, a couple, or small group, you will have an experience you won’t regret. Dinner at the hotel was excellent, and local spots by the beach also had fresh catches of the day. Everything advertised you get and more. I will cherish the memories made here and the people the most! Also, as an American saying this after living in Europe, their breakfast had actual fresh scrambled eggs ? unmatched.

Like the hotel but restaurant closed, no room service
Reviewed By Andy55LondonWe booked for a long Valentines weekend only to arrive and be told after check in on Friday that the restaurant was closed with no room service or bar until Monday. Breakfast was still available though and was great apart from hot food was not very hot and on cold plates. Reason given for closed facilities was lack of clients. We complained that we should have been told this on booking and were about to move to Mercure next door (fully open with very helpful receptionist who was astounded at what Sweet Atlantic had done) when Sweet Atlantic offered a discount to stay. We decided to do so as the suite was good, in excellent condition with kitchenette, mini bar and 2 balconies (although no table or chairs on them). Not very comfortable sofa though. Also there are great bars and restaurants close by, and housekeeping was very good. At the reduced rate the hotel was ok value although would definitely have preferred the facilities to be open and pay full rate.

We stayed in one of the apartments with a veranda. Breakfast had local delights. The best service ever, like being with long lost family. Cristina, the host, was friendly, knowledgeable, thorough, and helpful. We also met one of the owners and she was a source of delight. We will return. Only caveat is that it's not good for those with limited mobility due to stairs.

a typical Portuguese property from that golden age with a beautiful facade tiled with azulejos mosaics. Refined rooms and suites, each furnished and decorated differently, embellished with original art works and featuring marble bathrooms. An elegant and cozy living room, a winter garden which hosts breakfasts, and a peaceful shade terrace, perfect for relaxation.

The staff went above and beyond in making our stay so enjoyable, from letting us check in early, suggesting restaurants and places of interest, calling a taxi for the train station to offering to hold onto a forgotten item until we return. We stayed in a lovely room on the ground floor overlooking the charming deck, perfect for an afternoon cup of tea. COVID restrictions were strictly followed and the room was impeccable. We will definitely return to this lovely place.

Omg no sleep ? and they don’t serve tea at breakfast

The triple room itself was ok, good size, nice ceiling to look at all night ?. The shower leaked and the carpet leading from bathroom into bedroom has a stain so obviously been going on a while. Breakfast was nice to be fair with lots of variety but they don’t serve tea! Only coffee and hot chocolate, good job we had some of our own tea bags with us. The other major problem is the parking, despite the website saying there is parking around it’s almost impossible to find a space and if you get a paid one you can’t leave it over night!

We loved the short walk to the beach in the mornings. The door to the backyard/ to go to the beach is open from 9-19,before/after that you need to go through the main entrance.

Reviewed By Paulgreen1963We booked is hotel 3 months ago for a party of 18 for a big family holiday and sent them a deposit of £3000 all good till the 13th may when we got a phone call telling us the hotel as now been sold and we’ll be closed at the end of June they said sorry and we will send back your deposit So now we have 18 people with flights booked and no hotel BIG FAT THANKS
