Near the 3 most beautiful golf courses in the north of Portugal and 15kms away from the beach, this rustic guest house features a large garden with hydrangeas, lots of fruit trees and a lake with swans. A pool shaded by an ancient chestnut and surrounded by grass mixed with mint is unique! The property confines along 180 meters with a romantic small river.Casas do Rio’s rooms feature stone walls and century wooden ceilings, come equipped with a flat-screen TVs. Toiletries are provided in the private bathroom.In the living room we have a library, a small bar, fireplace, plasma TV and CD player. There is also a dining area where you can dinner if requested in advance. A buffet-style breakfast is served daily. Guests can eat in the dining room in the main house or at an old stone fountain by the garden and listen the water falling while your mind fly away.Free WiFi and inside free parking place. Animals are welcome.Casas do Rio has a games room with billiards, table football, darts and others. Hiking through the Barcelos countryside is also possible.

Reviewed By TTW103We stayed here two nights, taking a break of a day from the Camino Portugués and we could not have picked a better place. We enjoyed a nice afternoon at the pool, played games in the game room. Host Filipa made arrangements for us for dinner including a taxi service, no mean feat as many places were closed for Easter. Could not have wished for a friendlier reception.

Wonderful Little Hotel
Reviewed By frogcarguySpotlessly clean, centrally located and an excellent value—this is a gem of a hotel. We even got breakfast for our €47. The only downside is that the restaurant area is about a ten minute walk, but that’s nothing if you’re walking the Camino.

Quinta de Malta is a superb property with a wide range of facilities providing all that is required for a relaxing and utterly memorable holiday. It is centrally located between Barcelos, Viana do Castelo and Ponte de Lima and is close to several places of interest.The original house dates back to the mid 16th century and has been completely restored following successive improvements over the years. The property is surrounded by fields of vineyards, producing the excellent wine of the Quinta.

Reviewed By Jeff TA very extensive and old hotel set in wonderful gardens and with a large pool. There are several good walks from the door in this unspoiled area, and the village (Durraes) has a lively bar, excellent chocolate factory, and small but well-stocked supermarket. The food is substantial 'home-cooked' Portuguese - big buffet breakfasts and well-prepared dinners. The bedrooms are large and 'baronial' with authentic furniture. The views across the valley are lovely, with a large terrace from which to enjoy them. Durraes does not appear on most maps, being near Bulagaes, but it has a station and is about an hour by car from Porto. We stayed here as part of Inntravel's 'Manor Houses of the Minho' walking holiday

Old fashioned and disinterested staff
Reviewed By jok388We have just had 6 days cycling in Portugal and can confidently say that this was the worst hotel we stayed in! Both the daytime and the evening Reception staff did not welcome us, smile or say hello - which surely is the minimum we would expect! The rooms are like something out of the 1970's - brown and mustard and depressing and just generally not somewhere you would like to sleep. The breakfast was uninspired and meagre and the bar was closed when we arrived at 4pm - and was closed all evening. Just not a good place.

Reviewed By 322jackysWe had a very nice stay at this modern boutique hotel, staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a nice Swimmingpool, large modern rooms. Breakfast is excellent. Only problem was the common toilets at the hotel, it was dirty even early morning!

Walking past would be a mstake

History dating back to 16-17th century, in the family since the 18th, a vineyard at late as in the ’70s, and TLC put into it 2015 has made the place full of life and compassion. Everything from first call, to Yvonne’s greeting and guidance to the abundant breakfast served and check-out was a wonderful experience, We left in the morning more envigorated than the morning before! Stop here - even if earler than planned and just enjoy!

Reviewed By chovavzThis is an apartment building the belongs to the Art D'otel that is on the same street. The place is clean, comfortable and in a very good location. Breakfast is served in the hotel itself. There is a kitchen if you want to make your own food.

Hidden gem
Reviewed By E EWow, wow what a gem of a find, really loves this place, stayed here for 1 night with my wife and daughter, we arrived later then planned and were warmly welcomed on arrival. This place has so much more to offer than what you expect, it is quiet and remote, but easy commute to local amenities if needed, but the renovation of the place is outstanding and completed to a high standard, the breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared, we were very well hosted by the kind grand daughter who was excellent and Was so kind to us and arranged a little tour with the grandparents to show us a little history on the place too. Thank you so much , we will definitely return :)

Nice place
Reviewed By linbuelWe stayed here for one night in october while walking the camino portugues. The room was large, nicely decorated, very clean and with a good bathroom. The staff was very fiendly. The breakfast was in a nearby bar and a little disappointing. But overall a good place to stay.
