Great Cabins in the Woods

Reviewed By JamasWise

While I realize this isn't the ideal location for everyone, it is magical for those who are looking for a laid back spot in the woods. If you are travelling with a group or family and want a quite location for a night or two then this is the right place for you. The cabins are very well equipped. Note there is an extra charge for bedding and towels. Mostly setup for longer stays. The owner is very nice and welcoming. The pool is the cleanest I have ever seen.

Wonderful rustic camping in the Dordogne!

Reviewed By Louise T

This year was the 3rd occasion that we had visited camping la butte. It is a wonderful family friendly site that is run by Francis, Armelle and Jerome chardes. The site comprises of nearly 200 pitches ranging from small to large, many of which are shaded. Therr are a number of static lodges/caravans which are available to rent. The site has 3 swimming pools which are small, medium and large. 3 toilet blocks, 2 of which are new and 1 original (very french and rustic). The site is located directly above the beautiful river dordogne with pathways running down to the river, a private beach and a cave. There is a delightful bar covered with a permanent shelter and this is where the main entertainment takes place every evening except a Saturday. A variety of entertainers attend the site which include magicians, karaoke, French boules competition, bingo, 2 themed dinner evenings (confit De canard and moulles et frites) and once a week there is a open air disco. Usually on a Thursday the whole site descends via canoes and kayaks down the dordogne river for a fun day of activities surrounded by jumping fish and dragonflies landing on your paddles. Amazing experience and highly recommended to all ages and dogs. The river water is quite warm not like Britain's rivers!! The bar sells good quality food, icecream and snacks up until 10pm. The site is located within easy cycling distance to vitrac, La roque-gageac, domme, nevez, castel naud and sarlat. There are regular street markets on various days. Sarlat is Wednesday and Saturday which is the best market! Ask Armelle for more details. We are looking to return for our fourth visit next summer as we are yet to find another "home from home welcome" camping and caravan site in France! The entire area is breathtaking wig fairytale towns and villages. Highly recommended!

Yurt in rural forest setting

Reviewed By lillinglady

Had a very relaxing few days here staying in a genuine Mongolian yurt. It's very isolated (25 mins drive from Brantome/ Thivers) and set in very peaceful and picturesque countryside. Lovely walks and bike rides from the door (including down to St Pierre de Cole for lunch at Auberge Marmite). Great showers but I'll admit the eco toilet took some getting used too. Breakfast was a delight every morning with a basket of pastries, rolls, homemade jams, honey and fresh apple juice delivered to your yurt. The staff were very helpful for local info/ charging phones etc. The treehouse looked impressive too but was unavailable when I booked.

Very good camping and outstanding kitchen!

Reviewed By HeleenD135

We stayed here for 4 nights. This farm camping has it all: big campingplaces, very hygienic toiletblocks and showers, a lot of extra activities and above all a very good kitchen. Since a good kitchen at a camping is rather rare, this is a big plus. We very much recommand staying here and chill out at the poolside. Pay attention: this is a familycamping, so you will encounter a lot of kids :-).

Recently returned from 6 nights here camping. It’s a small campsite but with a decent pool area. About 5 mins drive from le Bugue set in a wood. Staff were very friendly. Toilets/showers always clean and of good quality. I think we were the only English family there which was nice. Lovely atmosphere. I would recommend and we may be back.

What a find

Reviewed By boardcell

We had been disappointed by a book gite and felt unable to stay. Having spent a night in a motel (Nothing wrong with it but not where we wanted to be), we found this place. It is a quiet, well-kept park with chalets. Each chalet seems to have its own privacy, ours was on the very edge of the park and extremely private. We were 2 mature couples and we had a 2 bedroom chalet. Each bedroom had loads of wardrobe space with hanging and shelving. In addition, there was a spare room which we used for storing luggage. There was additional storage space in the communal area which could be used if you needed to use the sofa bed in the lounge area. The kitchen was very well equipped, we had a dishwasher, only shortage was larger cups/mugs for coffee as the French drink of choice seems to be espresso. The lounge area had a satellite tv, large dining table for 6 and a sofa/bed. Outside we had a veranda with a large dining table for 6 and 2 deckchairs. Everything was clean and tidy, the bedding and towels arrived in plastic laundry bags and was excellent. We didn't use the pool as it seemed the weather mag have caught them unawares and it seemed the new owners were not ready for bathers, there was a fair amount of maintenance going on. There are laundry facilities at the clubhouse which seemed well equipped for families with games, books etc. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend.

Camping Le Plein Air des Bories

Welcome to the Camping Plein Air des Bories located 900 m from the charming village of Carsac Aillac where you will find all the amenities (bakery, supermarket, pharmacy ...) and only 7 km from Sarlat. Direct access to the Dordogne is ideal for swimming, downhill canoeing and fishing. Due to its location The Plein Air des Bories has a privileged location that will allow you to visit many sites in the region (Castelnaud, La Roque Gageac, Domme, Beynac ...).

Fantastic site

Reviewed By Fluffcluff

Gorgeous site on the banks of the Dordogne. The river is not visible from most of the site but is accessible from the back corner where the canoes launch from. Everything is very clean and tidy, pitches are varying size but mostly fairly big. There are a lot of cabins but they are well landscaped and do not detract from the site. Washrooms are good, there are also wash up and laundry areas. The on site pool is lovely. There is a bar and cafe on site which we didn't use. The village is a short walk and has a small well stocked shop ( none on site but bread etc can be ordered) and a bar a restaurant.. Canoeing from the site was fantastic and the cycle path to Sarlat is very good and almost flat. The site seems to attract a wide range of nationalities which was lovely. Minor complaints from us about the water pressure which is very low and hook up points which are few are far between. Would definitely come back here if returning to the area.
